Cool Bean Pods - French Roast Pod Review

Review from Single Serve Coffee.com - Coffee Pod Reviews

The folks over at Cool Bean Pods.com have sent us in a sample of each of their pod flavors to review. We decided to start with the French Roast flavor to get things rolling.

About Cool Beans

They've been around about as long as any pod supplier - that means less than a year. However, they have a very well done web site, that gives detailed info on what works with their pods and what doesn't work. So - as we found out (after trying out the coffee pod with the Senseo) - we think you'll have better results with certain Single Serve brewers.

The Senseo and Home Cafe are on Cool Beans "OK" list, and since we only have both of those machines and not many of the others - we can't give you that comparison today. That being said, we can imagine the pods would produce better coffee in the "most compatible" brewers.

Brewing a cup of French Roast

Img 8065-1Img 8074 The Senseo comes with a single and a double pod holder. If you use the Double Cup holder with the single packed Cool Bean French Roast Pod - you get - hot brown water. However, if you use the single pod holder - you do get a nice cup of frothy brewed coffee. The pod fits onto the top of the single pod holder and you'll have to squish down the top of the Senseo to get it to brew.

The Taste of the French Roast Coffee

Since the Senseo & Home Cafe are on the "OK" list...

The Frech Roast coffee was not great with either of these machines. We'd give it 2 out of 5 pods if you are using a Home Cafe or Senseo. Since the Bunn My Cafe Brewer is on the top of the best brewers list - we will try the French Roast again in the coming weeks as we get one of the machines.

My experience with the Cool Bean French Roast is the pods are too thick. Nine times out of ten the my Senseo will leak.

I like these a lot. I think I'm using the "new" cool bean pods, as I ordered them in June of 2005. I ordered the variety pack of regular coffee flavors. It comes with 6 different kinds, (I think)

I don't think all of the flavors are great. I think next order I'll do a whole box of either the French Roast (which is excellent from the Senseo) or the Colombian Supreme. They seem to have the most flavor.

All of the varieties are infinitely better than the D & E pods.

I have a Black & Decker Brew and Go single cup coffee maker. I have been trying to use "pods" for this machine and all I get is a light colored tea looking coffee, I have even tried to use less water in the pot. Can I use pods for this type of machine? What are pods, are they different than drip coffee? Should you only use pods in the pod machines, is it a different process? I'm so confused!

Thanks Stan. I actually ordered from the javapodz site since you can get 15 pods for $5.50 instead of the $10/large box at coolbeans. Will tell you whether it's good (i ordered chocolate cappucino and the two flavored decafs -vanilla and hazelnut).

To Angie:
I think if you wet the CoolBeans pod, you should be able to place it in the Melitta pod holder.

Has anyone tried these pods in a Melitta? I would love to have more flavored coffee, especially in decaf. The variety sounds great! BTW-I contacted Melitta and they said they will be introducing more variety, than what they already have, soon.

Wetting and patting the pod flat prior to placing it in the single pod holder makes the process easier. I too get a very good 8 oz. cup from the CoolBean pods. For those folks who just like a good cup of coffee shop joe, the "House" blend is really nice!

We love these guys too!!! We have placed three orders with them and they always ship super fast and send a tracking number. As I am typing this I am enjoying a cup of their super smooth and delicious “Swiss Chocolate Almond” coffee.

As Amy said - since their site states that each pod is made for an 8 oz mug, we also use one pod in the one pod holder and push the 2-cups of water button.

The best part is that their coffee is great and the price is right.

However, we can't wait for the new Senseo pods hopefully some additional decaf flavors.

I love these guys!! I started ordering from them in November, and am absolutely in love. The coffee is awesome, the price is fabulous and they arrive on my door in a day or so after ordering!!! They work awesome in my Senseo-- I'll await their new line, but I am madly in love with what they already have!!

**N.B.** They say on their site that each pod is made for an 8 oz mug-- we slap one pod in the one-pod holder and hit the 2-cups of water button.

I don't find that I have to push any harder on the top to get it to close when I use the 1-pod holder. But maybe I just don't know my own strength!

Heaven! Wow, finally an amazing cup of coffee! Thank you so much for
sending me all those wonderful samples. I will defiantly be joining the
club! I will order these until the new ones come.

Now I can enjoy my machine to the fullest!

I love these pods from Cool Beans what a great selection. I have spoken with them and in the next 6 weeks they are coming out with a new line of pods that will work great in the Senseo and Black & Decker brewers (other home type brewers). I can't wait!! Cool Beans stated that they will be sending free samples to any and all customers on file.
