JavaPodz Coffee Pods Review

JavaPodz was kind enough to send us an extensive sampler pack of all of their pods. We decided this morning to fire up the Senseo and have a go with the new pods. JavaPodz are compatible with the following systems (mostly of the 62mm variety):
- Philips Senseo™
- B&D® Home Cafe™
- Mr.Coffee® Home Cafe™
- Melitta One: One Pod Brewing System
- Bunn® MyCafe™
- AquaBrew® Cafejo™
- Grindmaster® PrecisionBrew™
- Juan Valdez Pod Brewing System
The pods came packed in a coffee bag with a JavaPodz logo applied with a sticker on the front of the bag. Inside each JavaPodz pod is individually wrapped in a silver foil bag with black printing. Like Baronet, JavaPodz pods are:
** Each 10gram Java Pod brews a full 8 oz cup of coffee**
So you don't have to put 2 pods in the double cup holder to brew a nice big mug of Senseo coffee. We've also found that putting 2 10gram pods into the double cup holder (unless you pre-moisten the pods), can lead to Senseo explosions. So we wouldn't recommend putting 2 10gram pods in to the double cup holder to make a double strength double cup with the JavaPodz.
Hazlenut from JavaPodz
We kicked off our pod tasting with the Hazlenut 10gram pod. A breaking open of the foil revealed a nice hazle nose, and we put it into the Senseo and pushed the double cup button.
The "crema" was pretty thick as it brewed, and the coffee appeared to have a nice dark color. We got a nice strong aroma of coffee and preceded to add some milk (1%) and sugar.
Our first impressions - a little weak - but good flavor. Not as silky as a standard Senseo - but none the less - a nice cup of coffee. We did enjoy the cup of coffee - but it wasn't stunning and not the best cup of Hazlenut single serve coffee we've had.
Chocolate Raspberry from JavaPodz
This one caught us by surprise! We don't know of any other pod maker that has this flavor and it's really good! We love the way it smells - the way it tastes - and the fact it is just plain different. Most pod people are ignoring the flavored sector to this extent - and it's nice to have a cup of really flavored coffee - meaning - a rich chocolate and raspberry flavored cup of coffee is hard to come by and this one is very good.

We'll have more impressions and reviews of JavaPodz coffee in the coming weeks.

I've sampled some of the chocolate rasberry, it was interesting, I think I may try mixing a medium roast pod in with the Javapodz.
The faux crema layer seemed to vanish rather fast. My observation is that Senseo PODS make the best faux crema with a more velvety texture to it, Java One makes the largest amount faux crema, but it is more bubbles, and the JavaPodz, the faux crema vanished before I was even halfway done with my cup. I like the faux crema, I believe it helps keep the coffee warmer for a bit longer
I'm looking forward now to trying the new Senseo flavored PODS.
