Aloha Island Kona-Pods Dark Roast Review

Review from Single Serve Coffee.com - Coffee Pod ReviewsKp205.250
The folks at Aloha Island Coffee sent along a sampler pack of their new pods and roasts for us to try at Single Serve Coffee.com. I enjoyed the pods just close to a year ago when Single Serve Coffee.com got started.

The pods back then were packed more like an espresso ESE pod, and now they are packed more like a Senseo/Home Cafe style pod.

Logo Store HeaderEach pod came individually wrapped and we received the following roasts to try:

  • Light Roast
  • Medium Roast
  • Dark Roast
  • Espresso Roast
  • Decaf
  • Hazelnut
  • Chocolate Macadamia Nut
  • French Vanilla

Trying the Roasts

Anita from Aloha Island Coffee recommended the Bunn My Cafe brewer which we currently have in our arsenal of Single Serve Coffee brewers.

We started off with the Light Roast pod. The coffee produced from the Bunn with a little cream and sugar, was decent. You get a hint of Kona flavor here but nothing great. However, if you like smooth coffee with a hint of Kona flavor, the light pods may be for you.

Next we went on to the Medium and Dark Roast. Now we're talking! Both of these cups of Kona coffee had the distinct Kona flavor you would expect from a cup of Aloha Island Coffee! The thing that strikes me the most about the dark roast - really hardly any acid in the taste. Often times with the dark roast Senseo, you get a strong acid aftermath that I often don't enjoy.

We decided to finish up with the French Vanilla. This wasn't stunning. It's more like a very very light cup of French vanilla and akin to the light roast Kona pod coffee produced earlier.

Conclusions

These new pods are much improved over the earlier pods. We really like the Dark Roast Kona Pod coffee and would recommend it to anyone looking for a distinct taste in the Single Serve Coffee world. The pods are a little on the more expensive side however, so you'll want to make sure you sit back and enjoy your cup of Kona coffee at a little over $1 per pod. But like a fine cigar - sometimes you just have to treat yourself.

I went to their web site to check these out and they have a link where you can get a free sample pod sent to you. Didn't see a way to pick which type you want so not sure which I will get. Looking forward to trying it out soon.
