Podhead.com Brasil Santos Ae-Sensation Coffee Pod Review from Single Serve Coffee.com

Gianni at Podhead.com was kind enough to send us a sample of nearly every Ae-Sensation (Arabica Express) coffee pod they have available to try out over the Summer months here at Single Serve Coffee.com. Gianni also phoned us up and gave some really good tips on brewing with coffee pods in general.
Brewing up a Cup of Brasil Santos Ae-Sensation Coffee Pod Coffee
For the purposes of this review, we fired up our trusty Bunn My Cafe and brewed a nice fresh cup of Brasil Santos coffee. All Ae-Sensation pods work with both the Bunn My Cafe, Senseo, and all 62mm compatible coffee pod brewers. We love the Bunn My Cafe and we decided to do our first review using the Bunn My Cafe alone. For our next Ae-Sensation pod review, we'll focus on brewing up an Ae-Sensation coffee pod with the Senseo.
The Podhead.com Ae-Sensation pods are 10gram in weight. After all the pods I've reviewed in the last year - these pods are big, thick, and filled with coffee. After you start to brew on a regular basis with an Ae-Sensation pod, you'll wonder how you ever brewed a cup coffee with a 7gram pod. Gianni also stated, that they make their pods in various flavors different weights to ensure the best brew.
Gianni recommended wetting the pod a little beforehand to ensure a good extraction and seal in the Bunn My Cafe. We pushed the pod into the pod holder, and ran it over with our instant hot wather in the kitchen. In the past, I've been skeptical of a little moistening of the pod holder and pod before brewing, but I ensure you in a back to back taste test - the pre-moistened pod and pod holder performed much better and produce better extraction.
Our Impressions of the Brasil Santos Ae-Sensation Coffee
It's just plain good. We haven't reviewed that many breakfast blends on the site, but I'll tell you right now I love this coffee. Actually so far, all the coffees we've had from the Ae-Sensation line using the Bunn My Cafe are excellent. The coffee extraction and taste in each cup of coffee is spot on. Best of all since it's a 10gram pod, you are ensured that brewing an 8oz cup of coffee will produce great tasting coffee.
The Brasil Santos (hold on - taking another sip), has that classic breakfast coffee taste and a little nutty bite after you swallow. We have had this coffee for the past 2 days, and it's gone great with our banana cornbread muffin and our piece of rhubarb pie (yes I eat pie in the morning some times). There is no bitter after taste. There is no acid flavor. I've had 2 - 8oz cups back to back and I feel great. It's a smooth cup of coffee and we've really enjoyed this flavor in particular.
Conclusions
In our first of several reviews on the Podhead.com Ae-Sensation pods - we are giving the Brasil Santos Ae-Sensation coffee pods 4 out of 5 coffee pods.
This is great breakfast coffee and the smooth rich flavor will win you over in your first brewing. Each coffee pod is also individually wrapped, and the freshness that exudes from each 10 gram pod is stellar.

I concur with the review. These pods are far superior to the typical fare that you get from Senseo. The flavor is smooth, and not bitter at all. There is actually character to the flavor as well (something not usually found in pre-ground, packaged coffee, when compared to freshly roasted/freshly ground coffee). I had their Jamaican Blue Mountain, and I'd say these are probably the pods to get if you are more picky about your coffee.
Ok here is a warning. If you have a Krups KP1010, they will work in ths machine, but for some reason, nine out of 10 times they will rupture. A simple solutin to the problem is to get some reguar coffe filters and cut out two disks as large as the pod holder and place them around the pod. The pod will still rupture but it will be contained to the coffee filters. Other than that thes pods are awsome. The Blue Mountain is especially good, but not quite enough to justify tripple the price of the other AE sensation pods. $2 vs $0.70 a pod.
I'm now wishing I had splured for a Bunn machine due to compatability issues.
