Interview with Cesar Vohringer, CTO of Philips - Maker of Senseo

Engadget has an interesting interview with Cesar Vohringer, CTO of Philips who makes the Senseo single serve coffee maker. It's interesting how good quality consumer electronics equates to good coffee. There's also some interesting tidbits about their new Ambilight TV tech that puts ambient lights behind larger Plasma and LCD TVs for a better picture. How about putting some ambient lighting in my Senseo?
You mentioned one example right now -- the Senseo coffee maker, for instance, is an innovation of putting together available technologiesand making it easy, simple, friendly and of good quality for the consumers. But there’s nothing revolutionaryabout the technology the Senseo uses. You can say the proposition is innovative. Also with the Ambilight TV. It’s again putting togetheravailable technologies but providing the user with a viewing experience which he enjoys. And this came out of a lot ofconsumer research, out of our home lab – we have a home lab here in our Innovation Campus where we portray anumber of these innovative concepts, and we have people living in that for days and experiencing that and giving usfeedback. So I think that over the last few years there has been a lot of effort put in the company to take a usercentric innovation approach and to begin to balance the technology strength of the company with the consumer insight.
