Review: Nespresso C100T Essenza Single-Serve Automatic Espresso Machine

Review from Single Serve Coffee.com - Coffee Pod Reviews B000Fcrlle.01-A3Splr0Msoyz8O. Aa280 Sclzzzzzzz V60868538 -1

You may remember our review of the Nespresso Essenza C90 in 2005, and you may even remember how much we loved this amazing little espresso and single serve coffee machine. What does the new Nespresso C100T Essenza Single-Serve Automatic Espresso Machine offer over it's older sibling and what's the same? In a nut shell - the Nespresso C100T Essenza Single-Serve Automatic Espresso Machine is a really nice update to an already great Nespresso machine. The price point is a bit higher than the older model, but this is a very affordable Nespresso machine at just over $220 in most places online and offline, and the new features are worth the extra money.

Since the main features of the machine and it's appeal are present in our older review, we're going to focus on the updates to the machine and why you might want to consider this as one of the machines in your single serve coffee arsenal. We're also going to give you the impressions of several new Nespresso drinkers who we introduced the machine to at a dinner party recently to get new insights and feedback.

New Features of the Nespresso C100T Essenza

The big change from the Nespresso C90 to the Nespresso C100T Essenza is the ability to program an espresso and lungo sized coffee on the two coffee buttons that appear on the front of the machine. There is also a change in how the machine powers on. Instead of pushing the power on the front, you'll need to switch on the machine near the right side and then you can wait for the machine to heat up and use the brew buttons on the front. One of the things we liked about the C90 was the power on the front, but the tradeoff is not having to push the brew button to start and stop. In the end the new programmable buttons were a better choice, as we stopped panicking about overflowing our single serve coffee cups with too much coffee.

Overall features are:

  • High-pressure pump (19 bars)
  • Thermoblock heating element
  • Programmable and automatic control of the amount of coffee in the cup
  • Functional handle allows for easy coffee preparation
  • Automatic ejection of used capsules on lifting the handle
  • Collection container for used capsules
  • Removable water tank (1L capacity)
  • ABS housing

It's also good to note you can only use Nespresso coffee capsules with the Nespresso C100T Essenza. This is by design, and you'll also need to sign up for the Nespresso club to do you ordering or stop by a Nespresso boutique to get some new ones.

Programming the Nespresso C100T Essenza

How hard is it to program the Nespresso C100T Essenza? Easy. You simply put in a capsule, pull the lever down, and then press and hold either button you're programming for at least 3 seconds or just release it at the desired time and voila! Programmed espresso or single serve coffee as you like it. You can also reset the programmed amount by switching off the machine, press and hold the big cup button, and then switch on. We like our lungo a little on the shorter side from the factory default, so we made it stop a few seconds earlier.

First Impressions of the Nespresso C100T Essenza

We recently had a dinner party to have some people sample the Nespresso coffee and espresso, and also to get feedback on how they felt about the Nespresso C100T Essenza. First impressions of any coffee maker or appliance is key, and overall people thought the machine was really designed well. The overall appeal of the machine was just how small it was and how amazed people were that it made such quality espresso. People also liked how easy the machine was to use, and unlike other espresso machines in our kitchen, anyone could use the Nespresso C100T Essenza to make a shot of espresso or cup of single serve coffee.

There are two cup sizes you can program. Espresso or a larger lungo sized cup.

Conclusion

The Nespresso C100T Essenza is a really nice update to an already amazing machine. The automatic shut off of the two programmable cup sizes take the stress out of stopping your shot or lungo at the right time. We like the Titan Grey of the machine and we think additional money for the Nespresso C100T Essenza over it's older sibling makes it worth it. And we'll say it one more time, the machine is tiny, and that makes having it as your dedicated micro-espresso or the "iPod" Nano of epresso machines in your kitchen a no brainer. We love the Nespresso C100T Essenza and we're glad Nespresso keeps improving on an already top quality espresso and coffee experience.

I just got one of these at home and have been investigating the water temperature. It consitently pours out at 163 degress or lower. I have done many pours and even took back the first one for a replacement and the temps are the same.

Nespresso has confirmed to me that temps should be in the 181-190 range. We all know the proper temps are vital to extracting the best from coffee.

They want to take my brand new (coffee not even through it) in for repairs.

Anyone else had temp issues?

An absolute incredible machine. Certainly one of my favourite three toys. If our house burnt to the ground, it would be the first thing we'd replace in the kitchen, followed by the Nespresso Aerochino.
