We just spent the weekend kicking back with our Tassimo brewing up the Twinings Chai Tea Latte T Discs. We've got quite the crew of Chai Tea Latte drinkers here at Single Serve Coffee. Often, the entire crew will venture out to Starbucks to get what they consider the "best Chai Tea Latte" around. Other Chai Tea Lattes can be had at Pete's coffee, or even at Dunkin Donuts. Each of the Chat Tea Lattes are always a bit different at the various coffee shops. The Starbucks Chai Tea latte is considered to be the most balanced with sweetness and milky goodness and Pete's is in solid second place.

So, this brings us back to the do it at home Chai Tea Latte crowd. The Twinings Chai Tea Latte T Discs for Tassimo consist of a Chai Tea T Disc and a Latte creamer milk T Disc. You combine these two T Discs into one Chai Tea Latte that you can make at home. How does the Twining Chai Tea Latte stack up against our local coffee shops? Does our staff like the Twinings Chai Tea Latte as an alternative to a $4.50 drink at a coffee shop?

First the cost analysis, the Twinings Chai Tea Latte Tassimo T Discs come packed with 8 chai tea t discs and 8 latte t discs allowing you to make 8 Twinings Chai Tea Lattes. Since the price per package is roughly $9 bucks, each Tassimo Twinings Chai Tea Latte will set you back only about $1.25 or so when you add in shipping or tax. That's a pretty good deal given a typical coffee house chai tea latte is in the $3-4 dollar range.

In a nut shell, the Twinings Chai Tea Latte T Discs produce a very solid hot cup of chai tea latte. The entire staff put it more in the "very sweet" category of Chai Tea Lattes. There is less of a Chai taste and more of a sweeter taste than found in the Starbucks Chai Tea Latte. Since Chai can be made any of a variety of a million different ways, there's really not a big surprise that this chai tea has it's own sweeter style.

Chai consists of four basic ingredients: Tea, Sweetner, Milk, and Spices. You really get more sweetner here, with it coming out more sugar and honey than molasses (commonly used). The spices are on the more clove cinnamon front, with the milk being the standard Latte Tassimo T Disc creamer which we like even by itself.

Back to our thoughts regarding the overall taste - as we said before sweet. It's more like a westernized version of Chai. We would say it's very much like the Dunkin Donuts variety or a typical Oregon Chai. That being said, the overall impression was a thumbs up. The staff here at Single Serve Coffee liked the Twinings Chai Tea Latte T Discs and the Chai Tea Latte produced.

The Twinings Chai Tea Latte is one of the more interesting drinks the Tassimo can create, and we are excited for more interesting drinks like these in the future for Tassimo. These T Discs will work in your Tassimo TA1400 and TA1200 hot beverage systems.

The Tassimo Twinings Chai Tea Latte T Discs are available at Tassimo and at Twinings Chai Tea Latte for Tassimo Coffee and Beverage Makers.

I thought I was really going to love the new chai tea latte, however one taste and I realized there was something very wrong with it. It is sweetened with Splenda (sucralose) which to those of us who can't stand the stuff ruins the entire experience. My taste buds were saturated with the gross splenda aftertaste after the first sip and although I endeavored to finish my cup I had to pour it out. Why they chose not to use sugar when the latte creamer already uses sugar makes no sense. I am very disappointed. :(
