Review: Nespresso Jalayatra Special Club 2007 Coffee
The Jalaytra Nespresso Capsule and Special Jalaytra Club Cup
We're always excited for the Nespresso Club Coffees from Nespresso, and when we heard about Jalaytra - a hand crafted Indian coffee that made the cut, our excitement grew even more. Jalaytra is a signature Arabica blend from the Malabar region of India. Inspired from the long sea journey and exposure to salty winds that flavored Indian coffees imported by Europe in the 19th century, this blend was created to capture the essence of those long salt ridden sea voyages in a Nespresso capsule.
The flavor of Jalaytra coffee supposedly has a peppery bite with spicy after-notes. How does it hold up? Do we like pepper taste in our coffee? Is this new Nespresso Special Club blend worth picking up at $5.90 for 10 capsules making the coffee $.59 cents a cup?
We think the Nespresso Jalaytra Special Club blend is indeed worth buying. We like the peppery notes that come across as sharp flavor bursts on our tongue. There is a very spicy aftertaste as well, resulting in us wanting to take more sips of the Jalaytra. We also found making an espresso or lungo (the larger single serve coffee 4oz size) does not dilute the flavor. The bite of pepper remains, and we really like the overall richness of the coffee blend.
- Aroma - 7 - nothing unique here - standard Arabica notes
- Acidity - 9 - low and mild
- Body - 9 - very medium to rich dark with a nice feel to it
- Flavor - 8 - we like the peppery start and spicy finish
- Mouth Feel - 9 - it's very big for even a dark espresso - very thick
- Coffee Drinker - Medium to dark. We liked it straight up and didn't even attempt a latte
Overall Rating: 85 - Good
