Keurig Turns 10 - Celebrates Single Serve Coffee Makers and Single Cup Brewing

We want to wish Keurig a happy 10th anniversary in brining the K Cup and Keurig brewers into our coffee cups. It's hard to imagine a time when we didn't have a Keurig single serve coffee machine in our kitchen.

The Keurig has been a staple of the single serve coffee world (you can read our review round-up earlier in the year). The staff here at Single Serve Coffee have featured many articles and reviews on the Keurig line of single serve coffee makers, and the k cups which deliver amazing single serve coffee each day. We've done a Review of the Keurig B40, B50, B60, B70, and even the Keurig B100. We've also featured Keurig K Cup Reviews and News. We've even done an entire set of reviews for the Keurig Reuseable K Cup Filter where you can use your own coffee for the Keurig single serve coffee maker.

And earlier this year Keurig and Breville teamed up to bring us the amazing Breville BKC600XL Gourmet Single Cup Brewer.

Again - congratulations to Keurig on an amazing achievement - staying in business for 10 year isn't easy to do, and we hope we're around to see your next 10 years in the single serve coffee world.

READING, MA (January 21, 2008) - Ten years ago today, the first gourmet Keurig® Single-Cup coffee brewers were shipped to customers. It was an instant hit due to the speed, convenience and gourmet-tasting coffee made possible by the Keurig Brewing System and proprietary "K- Cup®." A revolution began, and 2.3 billion K-Cups® later it continues. Over 3 million cups of coffee, tea and hot cocoa brewed by the Keurig single-cup system are now enjoyed everyday in homes and offices across North America.

"The last revolution in coffee brewing was with drip coffee systems like Mr. Coffee, which were introduced in the 1970s as an alternative to percolators," stated Nick Lazaris, President of Keurig, Incorporated. "Since 1998, we have been proud to lead the next revolution: single-cup brewing."

With the Keurig single-cup brewing system, users can CHOOSE their favorite coffee, tea or hot cocoa packed in the patented K-Cup, BREW a single cup at the touch of a button, and ENJOY a gourmet cup with no mess or clean-up. The K-Cup serves as a mini-brewer complete with a filter and fresh ground coffee sealed inside to preserve freshness. Patented Keurig brewing technology punctures the K-Cup, forcing a precise amount of water under pressure at a precise temperature through the K-Cup and resulting in a fresh-brewed cup in less than a minute. In the office, no one has to make a pot of coffee that ends up getting stale, and everyone can have their own favorite hot beverage: regular coffee, flavored, decaf, or tea. At home, gourmet coffee can be brewed quickly, eliminating the need to drive to a coffee shop.

Gourmet coffee and tea brands love Keurig technology because it assures their coffees and teas are brewed consistently every time...delighting the customer. Twelve popular brands pack their coffee and tea in K-Cups, including: Green Mountain Coffee®, Diedrich, Gloria Jeans, Timothy's, Van Houtte, Newman's Own® Organics, Tully's, Caribou, Coffee People, Emeril's, Bigelow, Twinings, and Celestial Seasonings® Teas. Ghirardelli Premium Chocolates has also developed a special hot cocoa packet for use with the Keurig system that chocolate lovers crave and Green Mountain Coffee also offers hot cocoa in K-Cups.

Keurig leads single-cup brewing in both the home and office. In fact, about 6% of all coffee brewed in offices in the U.S. is Keurig Brewed®. Keurig provides a range of brewing solutions, available from over 450 Office Coffee Distributors, for small, medium, and large offices. For the home, Keurig brewers and K-Cups are available at over 10,000 retail stores including Target, Bloomingdales, Bed Bath & Beyond, Linens N Things, and other premium retailers. Both At Work and At Home brewing systems can be found at www.keurig.com.
