Review: Timothy's White Hot Chocolate K-Cups for Keurig

Review from Single Serve Coffee.com - Coffee Pod ReviewsIMG_5848.jpg

Timothy's Coffees of the World Inc. recently introduced White Hot Chocolate K-Cups for Keurig. This is the first white hot chocolate K-Cup developed for use in Keurig single cup brewing systems, but not the first Hot Cocoa or Hot Chocolate K Cup. Green Mountain introduced Hot Cocoa K Cups last year, and it has been one of the top selling K Cups for the Keurig Elite B40 Brewer, Keurig B50, Keurig Special Edition Ultra Elite B60, Keurig B70 Brewer, Breville BKC600XL Gourmet Single Cup Brewer, and other Keurig K Cup brewers.

We have to say we were a bit shocked when Timothy's decided to go the white chocolate route instead of straight up hot chocolate, but the results are very solid. The hot white beverage which looks like whipped milk, is both sweet and interesting.

We were surprised when we looked around on how many different kinds of white hot chocolate drinks you could find. What we were more surprised was how sweet and interesting the Timothy's White Hot Chocolate K Cups were when adding a little espresso or coffee into the mix. Drinking the beverage alone was good, but a little coffee bite really made it more interesting for us. The taste is rich and sweet, with a hint of milk flavor. The drink comes across however as if you are drinking a very large hot glass of milk. If we were to compare the sweetness of sugar or honey - honey would be the sweetness derived. There is of course a note of white chocolate, but the overall sweetness takes the lead from drink to drink.

Making a cup of the Timothy's White Hot Chocolate drink
using the Breville BKC600XL Gourmet Single Cup Brewer

  • Aroma - 8 - Sweet and chocolaty
  • Acidity - 9 - No acid and of course no afterbite - not really coffee here
  • Body - 7 - Definitely not watery and somewhat richer on the smaller oz settings
  • Flavor - 8 - Surprising how interesting - sweet and chocolaty
  • Mouth Feel - 7 - Not the best for regular coffee drinkers - but this is hot chocolate people
  • Hot Beverage Drinker - Someone who likes a treat in a cup - pretty yummy with a little espresso mixed in

Overall Rating: 85 - Good

We think Timothy's has a winner with their White Hot Chocolate K Cups for Keurig. The hot beverage is a welcome addition to the ever expanding types of K Cups for the Keurig single serve coffee maker system. We really think a shot of espresso or coffee mixed half and half makes a very interesting barista style beverage.
