Redesigned Nescafe Dolce Gusto Surfaces at Chicago Housewares Expo

We featured this redesign that we thought might only surface in Europe last Fall, and now it's nice to see we're going to get an "O" shaped Nescafe Dolce Gusto sometime this year in the US. This sneak peek at the new Dolce Gusto coffee brewer at the 2010 Home and Housewares Expo in Chicago was captured by the crew over at CoffeeWiz.com. Thanks for getting the picture - and what do you think? Are you buying? Or are you crying? Sound off in the comments with your feelings about this novel design.

The Nescafe pod machine is already available in Japan. The Yohoo selling site has two versions. One is the Circulo version in red and also a silver finish. However there is a second version that dumps the coffee out off the end and it looks something like a snail. It fits right in with my 1940s Merit cicular popup toaster. Pretty cool looking. Has anyuone kept track of the styling changes to the various pod machines from around the world? Does anyone care?
Guys, look at the CoffeeWiz photo beneath the glass top the red Circulo is sitting on - Looks like another new gusto design to me! This black brewer has the same Gusto controls/levers but looks like an upside down "J" instead of an "O". Are they trying to work their way through the alphabet?

I used to like the "donut" design, but the open back (according to what I'm seeing in the photo above) has me wondering about "splash-back" when making drinks. I know sometimes even with the cup stand raised, some drink splash-back flies onto the counter top, so with the open back, it might also fly onto the wall if you place the machine in front of one. Hope there's a backing plate included. Now that they've got a new machine on the way, it begs to question whether or not they also have new drink flavors on the way? Maybe Jim @ CoffeeWiz can confirm? Their mocha & chococcino are divine... I can only imagine how spectacular a caramel macchiato or mint chococcino would be!
