Starbucks K-Cups Coming November 2011

That's right the news is official, starting this November Starbucks will be offering it's coffees and teas (okay a small subset) in K-Cup portion pack format for the Keurig single serve coffee brewer. The retail giant will offer coffee in K cups across food, drug, mass, special and department stores in the U.S. Management has also revealed that the K cups will be available in retail outlets like Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Target Corp.

This is very different than the current Dunkin' Donuts strategy which only allows for distribution of Dunkin' K-Cups in their Dunkin' Donuts coffee shops. We think Starbucks is going to really get the K-Cup given the wide availability.

Starbucks varieties to be sold in K-Cup portion packs will include Breakfast Blend, Pike Place Roast, House Blend, Sumatra, and French Roast, as well as two selections of Tazo tea. The packs will be available in 10-count, 16-count, and 54-count packs. There is no word on price yet, but we also expect them to be priced lower than the Dunkin' K-Cups.

I just bought Dunkin' Donuts K-Cups at my supermarket.

I hadn't heard Starbucks was dropping the Tassimo disks, until I went on Amazon and found the prices went from $22/24 count to $140... Guess my Tassimo machine is useless...

The big question is whether the K-Cups will be filled with Starbucks ground coffee or their Via instant coffee. They had to use the largest size Tassimo T-Disc to replicate the flavor from their shops. I'm not sure that much coffee will fit in a K-cup (although they could use a smaller serving).

I'm almost afraid to see how much the kcups will cost when you break it down to per cup? Over 1 dollar per cup. Dunkin is around .85 cents per cup I believe.
