Review: Donut Shop Coconut Mocha Coffee K-Cups for Keurig Brewers

Review Single Serve Coffeemochacoco_kcups_april_2012.jpg

When chocolate meets coconut we stand up and pay attention, and the soon to be released Donut Shop Coconut Mocha coffee K-Cups warrant such attention. The artificially flavored coffee doesn't have the calories, but it sure does have the taste of that favorite chocolate bar you know, and the packaging it came in as a promotion was quite fetching as well.

This has to mark the first time we've gotten coffee delivered by coconut. And no - we don't believe any coconuts named Wilson we're injured in the making of this zip-able K-Cup filled coconut.

The zipped up coconut.

Inside we've got two K-Cups of the Donut Shop Coconut Mocha coffee k-cups.

Okay - so how's the coffee? Solid. We get a bit more nose of the flavors than the taste itself. Both the chocolate and the coconut are more balanced than we would have expected, and the coconut flavor is not as strong as the Island Coconut. However the overall taste is very smooth along with a feeling you're drinking an almost hazelnut flavored coffee.

  • Aroma - 10 - Very mocha - very coconut - very well done.
  • Acidity - 10 - None. This coffee has very little boldness to it and is very smooth.
  • Body - 8 - Thinner than expected and not as full as we'd want.
  • Flavor - 7 - We just expect a little more here. We were hoping for chocolate bar and really got chocolate bar smelling coffee mixed with coconut notes.
  • Mouth Feel - 8 - Not big but not small. Good.
  • Coffee Drinker - If you like flavored coffee, and you like coconut - this is for you.

Overall Rating: 86 - Good

We're impressed this coffee happened, and we think you'll be impressed when you drink it or have it to share with your guests.

Donut Shop Coconut Mocha K-Cups will work in all Keurig brewers and should be available in April 2012. Given the other Donut Shop blends have been from Coffee People, expect to see it under the Coffee People category of K-Cups on the Green Mountain site.

We would also like to note that Green Mountain Coffee provided us these K-Cups to review.

I love the Island Coconut coffee, but this stuff is awful.

I’m not quite sure about this one. I try to stay away from chocolate flavored coffee because they tend to be overly artificial, especially anything that Green Mountain puts out. I’ll be saving my money.

Ok, first things first... that promo packaging is total awesome-sauce! Bonus points to GMCR/Coffee People for thinking of that one :-P

I read on's Facebook page that they were certain the coffee was identical to Timothy's German Chocolate Cake K-Cup.

Can you confirm if that's the case?
