Starbucks Verismo 580 System In Stores and Online

The Verismo 580 comes in Silver and Burgandy.

Over the weekend Single Serve Espresso has found the Starbucks Verismo 580 Single Serve Coffee and Espresso System at their local Starbucks, and the $199 Verismo 580 is also available for order online. The Verismo will make both espresso based drinks and also brewed coffee. There is a total of 8 different Starbucks Pods to choose from at launch for the Starbucks Verismo System, and various combinations of these pods will produce lattes, cappuccinos, and other brewed coffee beverages.

Besides a jaw dropping 19 bars of pressure to make your espresso, the Starbucks Verismo 580 Single Serve Coffee and Espresso system has features that include:

  • High-pressure brewing system heats up and is ready to make Starbucks-quality beverages in less than 15 seconds.
  • Variable temperature system allows for optimum coffee extraction and milk steaming.
  • Integrated rinse function helps keep machine clean.
  • Height-adjustable drip tray accommodates different sized cups.
  • Auto-off activates after 5 minutes to save energy.
  • Easily removable water tank makes refilling simple.
  • Built-in used pod removal automatically moves up to 10 pods to storage for easy cleanup.
  • An electric Frother is also available at $59.99

There is a total of 8 different pods available, and they will set you back $11.95 for 12. That makes each pod about $1 and to make any milk drinks you'll need 2 pods making those drinks cost $2.

The Starbucks Pods available today in stores and online include:

  • Verismo Caffè Latte Pods - A pack of 8 Verismo espresso pods and 8 milk pods to make caffè lattes. Used exclusively with the Verismo System.
  • Verismo Espresso Roast Espresso Pods - The heart of our espresso beverages. A darker-roasted blend with a rich aroma and a hint of caramel.

Priced fairly? So everything sold in Europe gets marked up 150% to sell it here? Does that mean I can get a Tassimo machgine in Europe for 40 bucks? I’m sure the Nespresso machines aren’t 150% more expensive here. I’m not buyin’ it.

By the time the machine is ready for the U.S. market no way it could sell for 80 dollars. The machine looks like it's priced fairly.

Starbucks Canada just confirmed today that Verismo machines & capsules will be available in select Canadian retail stores starting October 16, 2012.

Hmm.. Wonder if they'll be offering demos/free samples? Curious to see what the milk capsules taste like.

It is in fact the same machine and tech.

Look familiar? Aldi even gets the new one while Starbucks sells us the old one. Look at the price difference in capsules too.

Just a heads-up for our Canadian readers in case they're interested, but the Verismo is also available online in Canada as well (haven't checked my local Starbucks yet, so no idea if this is in-store as well).

- Same pricing as USA for machine ($199.00 CAD)
- Same pricing as USA for pods ($11.95-$12.95 CAD)

- Canada gets less flavors/pod varieties than USA (Why am I not surprised?)
- The red Verismo machine is not being sold in Canada (I guess Starbucks forgot what color the maple leaf is on our national flag)

Link to Canadian online store:

Those few gripes aside, I'm glad that Starbucks is making an effort to release this machine simultaneously across USA & Canada and I'm really surprised they kept the pricing identical between both countries.

Will I be rushing out to buy a Verismo? Well, in the words of Richard Karn: "I don't think so, Tim"

It should be interesting to see how well this does/how fast it fails.

Just as I expected, Starbucks managed to take a machine that sells for 80 bucks in Aldi stores over in Europe and charge us 200 bucks for it. I’ll stick with my Tassimo.
