Mr. Coffee Single Serve Coffee Brewer Machine Review

Mr Coffee Single Serve Coffee Brewer Machine

The Mr. Coffee Single Serve Coffee Brewer Machine has changed how I drink coffee. I've gone from constantly buying it 'to go' to taking the time to enjoy it at home. If you're considering buying this single serve coffee brewer, let me break down the positives and negatives for you:

Pros

  • Neat and compact
  • The novelty factor
  • Good quality coffee
  • Wide range of k-cup options, good for non-coffee drinkers
  • Modern

Cons

  • Initial price is mid-range
  • K-cups take some getting used to for the uninitiated
  • Not the best for large groups of coffee-drinkers

How it Works - The Mr. Coffee Single Serve Coffee Brewer Machine offers two drink sizes, 6 ounces and 10 ounces. You simply fill the water reservoir, lift the lid to insert a k-cup, and pick the serving size. The small machine allows room for larger cups by having a removable drip tray. Press brew, and voila. The brew button doubles as the on/off button, so it's very simple to operate. The Mr. Coffee machine is much more straightforward than other coffee makers I've come across, as once brewed it cools and dries the k-cup so I can clean up right away. There is no fiddling with ten buttons to get a cup of coffee first thing in the morning, a major benefit.

Timing and Convenience - A single serve coffee brewer is very efficient, if you're just making drinks for one or two. If you want to make coffee for a large group of people, the k-cups aren't your best option. The machine has a 90-second cooling and cleaning cycle which is obviously necessary to remove the k-cups safely and without creating a mess, but can slow things down. However it is possible to add a regular Keurig coffee filter, if that's more your style.

As For K-cups - I had only vaguely heard of k-cups before purchasing this machine, as a friend mentioned how great it was that her office used them. Having tried the k-cups that come with this machine and browsed for more online, I see what I was missing! They're a genius idea, these tasty little servings of hot drinks really make things fun. Unlike buying a jar of instant coffee or pre-roasted beans, you're not stuck with the same flavor for weeks on end. They seemed a little fiddly to me to begin with but you just have to make sure you follow the instructions on how to insert them - the top of the machine has to be pressed down firmly first. If you're a dedicated drip-coffee drinker then you might take some time to adjust to the cups, but trust me, once you try a French Vanilla or Mocha Nut Fudge you'll be convinced. I suggest buying a sample pack along with the machine.

Modern and Compact - The Mr. Coffee Single Serve Coffee Brewer Machine fits nicely into the corner, on my kitchen counter-top. The black machine looks sleek and will blend in quietly to any kitchen. The machine itself is small and the removable parts can be cleaned in the dishwasher for convenience.

The Fun Factor - Where the novelty comes in, personally, is with the branded k-cups. The fact that you can buy flavors from coffee chains like Gloria Jean's or teas like Twinings is impressive. It really speaks to the quality of the coffee you're getting here. And they don't shy away from tea or hot chocolate options, for those of us who aren't caffeine addicts!

A single serve coffee brewer is really a great idea for those who live alone, or with someone who doesn't drink the stuff. You avoid the hassle of having to make a whole pot, and there are no sad leftovers sitting around after. If you happen to be like my household which consists of one coffee fan and one tea-drinker, this system is perfect because it satisfies both tastes.

Initial Price - If you're not too interested in keeping up with at-home coffee trends this can seem like a pricey initial investment. However when you compare it to how much the average person spends on coffee every day, never mind every week, it works out quite well. Having my morning coffee at home with the Keurig cups for a fortnight probably saved enough on what I would have spent on coffee in fancy cafés to even it out. The k-cups are worth the price too, for the range of flavors you can find online to go with the machine.

Final Verdict - I give the Mr. Coffee individual serving brewer four out of five stars. It's modern, easy to use, affordable for anyone with a regular coffee habit, and most important of all, lets you have delicious and good-quality coffee.
