Instant Coffee Is Taking Over the World

Coffee market instant 600x402

Nescafé is taking over the cups and mugs of people all over the world with instant coffee. Keurig Green Mountain, accounted for just 5 percent of the global market in terms of value in 2014, Nescafé accounted for 44 percent of the instant coffee market in terms of value, and 40 percent of retail volume.

That’s an amazing number, and we are surprised the single serve coffee market isn’t bigger world wide, but it does show the opportunity Keurig Green Mountain has with “fresh” coffee.

Here are some other tidbits on instant coffee around the world:

  • Britons consumption of instant coffee ‘continues to record strong growth in the UK. In fact, British consumers account for nearly a third of the instant coffee sold in all of Western Europe:
  • Wholebean instant?A kind of instant coffee called Kenco Milicano, which is a mixture of actual coffee and soluble powder that the company oddly describes as the world’s first ‘wholebean instant.’
  • Hybrid instant drinks like lattes and cappuccinos will lead the instant category’s market growth in the UK and beyond.
