Mysterious Keurig 2.0 550 Brewer Orange Disc - Solved

Mysterious keurig orange disk

Over the weekend we had a reader write in regarding a mysterious orange disk that they received in their Keurig 2.0 550 brewer. We think it looks like a shipping disk with some instructions on it showing how to set up the brewer. Are we correct?

From Steve:

I received a replacement Keurig 2.0 550 brewer and the attached disc was included. The code on the plastic bag is KPCS 500057121. Can you tell m what is is? Thanks

Update from Steve:

I found a video. It's the 2nd video under Keurig 2.0 Support. Titled - Keurig Brewer Maintenance Accessory.

Lost the orange needle. Too expensive to reorder such a small device. Any other suggestion for cleaning grounds?

You would be surprised Josie.
You are not merely dipping the needles in water. The design acts more like a toilet plunger suctioning out the debris

Where can I get the brewer maintainance accessory? thanks

For those looking for this accessory, simply go on Keurig.com and look for the "Contact Us" item under the "Support" section.

There should be a toll-free # you can call or a link to send them an e-mail. I would suggest contacting Keurig and asking them how to order this part if you don't see it listed in their online store.

Please note that all Keurig 2.0 brewers now appear to come pre-packaged with this cleaning accessory.

That is a brewer maintenance tool that is designed to clean the needles of the machine. you put water in the bulb and lift and close the handle 5 times and it will pull the grounds out into the middle bulb area.

I received this orange tool in the mail. It was sent to me from Keurig and addressed to me as a Costco member who purchased a 2.0 brewer at Costco in Canada. The tool came with a printed letter that indicated the tool was designed to help clean grinds blocking the needle that are resulting in low flow, short cups and other similar brewing problems. This was actually pretty timely given that I have been using a paper clip to clear this significant problem.

is there a video i can follow to understand how to work (brewer maintenance accessory)

The instructions printed on the disc shows step 2 as filling the disc with tap water, then step 4 as closing/opening the lid 5 times after the disc is inserted. You then remove the disc and run a hot water cycle through the machine.

This gives me the impression that this is used as some sort of "piercing needle cleaner/washer". Although, I seriously doubt you'd get much grit, especially clogged coffee grinds cleaned out of the piercing needle simply by dipping it in water 5 times.

Maybe it's meant as a way to pre-wet the grit/stuck grinds in order to loosen them up so that a hot water cycle can flush them out and clear the needle?

Would have been nice/considerate for Keurig to at least include a small info insert in the packaging to help explain the actual purpose of the disc.
