Swiss Miss Peppermint Hot Cocoa K-Cups Review

We recently reviewed a K-Cup flavor which seemed to have been put on store shelves a few months too early and today, we've found yet another Christmas-themed K-Cup on store shelves... in early August. Seriously, what the heck is going on? We're happy that we get to try things early, but at the same time seeing Christmas items a full MONTH before Halloween has even started just seems... wrong. Anyway, seasonal correctness aside, today we're checking out Swiss Miss Peppermint Hot Cocoa K-Cups. They're billed as a limited edition, so you might want to grab a box while you still can.

Yep... nothing screams Fall like... peppermint? Really? The Single Serve Coffee staff here are facepalming worse than that Captain Picard meme. Huh? What's that? Just get on with the darn review? Alrighty then!

Brewing these K-Cups result in a pleasantly sweet & mild peppermint aroma mixed with the natural sweet notes of the chocolatey hot cocoa as we... ignore the Fall leaves just barely starting to change color on the trees outside our kitchen window. We get mild peppermint notes up front quickly followed by the signature sweet creamy chocolate notes we're accustomed to seeing in Swiss Miss hot cocoas. This truly is a festive spin on a classic, although, we think the peppermint taste could have been a wee bit stronger for our liking, but overall, things aren't too shabby.

As is typical with any hot cocoa K-Cup, you should always give the K-Cup a good shake before brewing it to help ensure that you're not left with large clumps of unused powder in the bottom of the brewed K-Cup. We had a few exceptions with the original Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa K-Cups since they seemed notorious at ALWAYS clumping during brewing regardless of what we tried, but we're happy to report that KGM appear to have figured out the problem in this version as there was very minimal amounts of residual powder left in multiple K-Cups during our testing. Now, if you'll excuse us, we're off to decorate the Christmas tree carve a few pumpkins. Wait a minute... it's not even October yet! Ugh... you might want to hold off letting your children try these K-Cups at least for another few months unless you want to really, really confuse them about which holiday they should be celebrating next month.

So, what do we think? Is this one worth checking out?

We would like to note that we found these K-Cups at a local Target and purchased them on our own for the purpose of this review. Swiss Miss Peppermint Hot Cocoa K-Cups will work in all K-Cup Brewers including Keurig 2.0.

We would also like to thank our Single Serve Coffee correspondent SH for writing this review.
