More on the new Home Cafe Coffee Pod brewer from Krups coming this fall. Also - this is a killer run down of the current state of the single serve set of brewers available.
CBS News | Java Nirvana In Your Kitchen | March 21, 2005 13:00:03:
Coffee Giant Krups is introducing a brand new pod machine called the Krups Home Cafe, at the Housewares trade show in Chicago. Gregg offered a sneak peek with a single-cup coffee brewer that uses pressure-brewing technology. Specially designed Millstone coffee pods can brew either one or two cups of coffee at a time. This model also allows consumers to customize the amount and flavor of their coffee by setting the system for a 6 oz. or 9 oz. cup of coffee or even up to a full 18 oz. travel mug. The cups can even be of different flavors, thanks to two independent pod holders. Retails for $150.

I’m not one for self congratulations but this morning I realized our 1 year anniversary has already past us! I posted our first entry on May 1st of last year in preparation for the launch of Philips Senseo and it was also our first review! A year ago as well, there was but 2 or three single serve coffee pod makers - now there are tons. Since then we've done over 50+ reviews, and written just north of 227 articles for you to sink your teeth into.

When Senseo launched in the US - it only had Light, Medium, and Dark Roast pods. In Europe, they had a plethora of pod flavors and everyone here in the US was just plain jealous and wanting more flavors. Well, Senseo has finally come out with more pod flavors in the US!
The New Senseo Pod Flavors
There are 3 new flavors within the Senseo City Sensations line:
I'm surprised that they went for all flavored coffees, but not when I called my mom to get her impressions. My mom and dad both love flavored coffees, and even use flavored creamer. My mom was pumped that these would be available and also that they would fit her Senseo machine. She also said after trying them - that they were all very yummy.
So - my Mom loves them - what would we think?

Starbucks has finally put out some coffee pods, but I'm pretty sure these are espresso pods, and not meant to be used with your Home Cafe or Senseo type pod machines. I'll see if I can get a sample of these and find out. If they are ESE or espresso pods, I'll have to fire up the Francis Francis and see how they taste. Thanks to Joe for sending in this news tip!
Update: Indeed these are Espresso Pods and not for use with Home Cafe or Senseo. I will review these in the upcoming weeks with the Francis Francis machine or another one of the Espresso Pod machines that are coming in for review. Thanks to everyone writing in to let me know what these pods will fit in.

I'm not sure about a breakthrough, but it was decent coffee none-the-less. Looks like Gevalia and others are going after the office market and positioning the "freshness" and convenience of the individually wrapped pods.
Gevalia® Pods Serve Up a Gourmet Brew Breakthrough @ Vending Market Watch News at AMonline.com:
The European tradition of Gevalia®, the trusted brand in gourmet coffee for over 150 years, has reached a new level of sophistication with Gevalia pods. Gevalia pods deliver 100 percent Arabica coffee and tea in a convenient single-serve format for an on-demand, gourmet hot beverage experience.

That was fast! We've got a whole bunch of the two blends to try over the next week or so thanks to Jim Evans at CoffeeWhiz.com.
We haven't put them on a scale to test the 20% extra - but I'm sure we'll be able to tell when we compare against a regular Sumatra K-Cup or Dark Blend.

I'd heard through the grape vine that Green Mountain was going to add some coffee to their K-Cups but had no idea they would add 20% more coffee. We were very pleased with the Green Mountain blends when we reviewed the Keurig B50 last year, but I'm really excited to try out the 20 percent more coffee in each K-Cup. I know that I prefer a stronger cup of coffee over a light roast - this should be interesting to see if dark coffee drinkers really think this new K-Cup meets their expectations.

WATERBURY, Vt.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 2, 2005--Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. (NASDAQ: GMCR) today introduced "Extra Bold" K-Cups(TM) in two varieties of coffee: Dark Magic and Fair Trade Certified(TM) Organic Sumatran Reserve. A K-Cup holds a single serving of ground coffee or tea. It is inserted into the Keurig(R) Single-Cup Brewer to create a fresh cup of coffee or tea in seconds. Single-cup brewers have been available in offices for years and are rapidly gaining acceptance in the home market.
Well - the folks over at Treehugger are obviously a little perturbed with this Self-Heating Can from Wolfgang Puck, but I have to say I'm impressed regardless of the implementation of this being disposable - which I don't agree with in an enviromental sense.
However, a small portable self-heating instant espresso/Single Serve Coffee machine that makes one cup would be fabulous. I really have enjoyed the Wolfgang Puck pods - I will have to try this and see if it's any good at all (yes - I will try anything coffee related and single serve).
Via Treehugger: Wolfgang Puck Disposable Instant-hot Latte:
So California company OnTech spent 7 years and 24 million bucks to develop a coffee can filled with quicklime so that you can have a hot latte in seven minutes. Its market: “the people who want to have hot coffee in their car without going anywhere or cooking anything at home” says OnTech Prez Jonathan Weisz.

The Krups Home Café system will offer unique features including dual-cup capacity, several cup-size options and a built-in water filtration system. The Krups Home Café model can brew either one or two cups of coffee at a time, and with two independent pod holders, each cup can be a different variety of creamy or black coffee.
The original Home Café machines have received mixed reviews from us and from Single Serve Coffee readers (we reviewed the Mr. Coffee Home Café and the Black & Decker Home Café machines). I'm hoping that many of the issues with the first Home Café macines have been fixed, and so far - it looks like many have.
We should receive a review machine in the mid-late June time frame, and will let you know when this new single serve coffee machine arrives.

The folks over at Podhead.com have sent us a sample of their Sensation pods for Senseo & Bunn My Cafe, along with a sampling of pods for the Melitta One:One. We will be reviewing these pods over the next few weeks. So far - we are really enjoying the Arabica Mix in the Bunn My Cafe.
Looks like you large mug toting Single Serve Coffee drinkers will get your prayers answered. This Fall, The Senseo will be updated with a new shorter spout to accommodate larger sized mugs.
Single Serve Coffee.com: Will there be an update to the Senseo this Fall?
Senseo: As you know, we have 94% of Senseo purchasers that say they are very or extremely satisfied with Senseo. With that said, we are making a change that we expect to bring this number even higher. We will be shortening the spout to accommodate larger coffee mugs. The new height will allow the consumer to fit over 90% of coffee mugs underneath the spout.
That's great news! I can't say that I don't love my Senseo almost completely, but I could love it even more if it fit a larger sized mug. I'll have even more updates from my discussion with the Senseo folks soon.

Bunn MCP My Café Professional-Grade Single-Serve Coffee/Tea Machine:With 1450 watts of power this versatile, commercial-quality coffee/tea machine is exceptionally fast, brewing 4 to 10 ounces of coffee in about 30 seconds or tea in about 50 seconds. The unit's control panel makes it easy, offering separate coffee and tea brewing buttons and a selectable strength...
Announcing the Gourmet Coffee Café! A pod brewer with a unique twist - it's got a milk-steamer! The Gourmet Coffee Café also has a coffee club. This machine seems to use coffee pods but also they offer tea pods for use in the brewer. I think we are going to see many more machines of this type, as the lines blur between the ESE machines and the single serve brewers.
Also of note, you really need to watch the 30 second demo reel of the Gourmet Coffee Cafe. I don't think I've ever seen a 3D/Real World demo clip of a machine quite as entertaining.

Philips has announced yet another Limited Edition Senseo Color - SWEET MANDARIN! I have to admit, I'm really jealous of the variety of colors and models available in Europe. You can pre-order it now and be one of the first to get this brand new Senseo color from Typical Dutch Stuff.

News is filtering in as Kraft prepares to launch the Tassimo in the U.S. this Fall. I've been sifting through the reader mails and comments and this post has the most information I've seen yet.
P. Love writes in about the Tassimo:
"Just had the opportunity to see and taste the espresso, coffee, tea and hot chocolate line available wtih the Tassimo Coffee Machine. I am in love! Great for family or small office applications. We even experimented and made a cafe mocha! According to the info I was given, the product will be available through major retailers this fall, in the US at a price of $169.00. The water carafe will be larger that the one on the European model and will have a filtration system. The machines ran non stop at the FMI Trade Show, held recently in Chicago, IL.
According to those working the show there were very few problems with the machine, even running them all the time. The single serve disks will be packaged 8 or 16 to a package and the average cup of espresso will be approximately .30 a cup. (Compare that to Starbucks!) The tassimo will also accomodate travel mugs as well as your small espresso or demitasse cup. I can't wait! It is already on my wish list!"
Well - it seemed to take forever but the City Sensations arrived for review. I've already had a nice cup this morning of the Paris - Vanilla flavored blend.
The most surprising thing - the packaging. It's really quite nice. Expect a full review later in the week.

Jim Evans at Coffee Whiz.com was kind enough to send along a whole set of coffee pods from Gevalia for me to review.
I have tried for no less than 4 months to get Gevalia themselves to send me something, but have gotten caught up in customer service, or told to write a letter to the corporate headquarters for anything marketing related. OMG. It enrages me in these internet driven times that you would have to actually write a piece of mail to get a sample. What enrages me even more, is the fact that Gevalia constantly sends me email about their pod brewer - so - if they have a killer internet division - why can't I contact them on their website about marketing matters?
Okay - moving on. I have tried over the last few weeks the following from Gevalia:
