We received Tassimo earlier this month to review and are feeling good about this new offering in the Single Serve Coffee arena. The machine is manufactured by Braun, however Tassimo was designed by Saeco and Kraft. Tassimo will launch in the US this Fall.
Update: Tassimo has two new brewers from Bosch. Check out our reviews of the Tassimo Bosch Brewers:
Also check out our continued updated Tassimo and T-Dics area of articles.
Update: Tassimo is now calling this system a "brewbot". What's a brew bot? The Brewbot (BROO·bot) is an advanced brewing machine programmed to make over seven different varieties of beverages. Brewbots can create coffees, lattes, cappuccinos, espressos, hot chocolates and coffee cremas all at the touch of a button. a.k.a. Roboticus Brewtus. The machines are the same as earlier Tassimo Bosch models above but being marketed as brewbots. Please check out our review links of the current lineup of Tassimo machines.
Updated Bosch Tassimo Review: Read our review of the new Bosch Tassimo hot beverage system here.
The Tassimo does not use coffee pods, ESE espresso pods, or K-Cups, but utilizes a new hot beverage brewing system in the form of T-Discs. Each T-Disc has a bar code on it to tell the machine how the hot beverage of your choice needs to be prepared, and the brewing of the coffee happens inside each T-Disc as water is pushed through it. Tassimo can make single serve coffee. single serve crema coffee, espresso, lattes, cappuccinos, tea and best of all - HOT CHOCOLATE.
Tassimo is also the first single serve coffee system to have liquid milk instead of powdered milk to make cappuccinos and lattes. You don't have to keep the milk T-Discs cold either, as they are shelf stable and ultra-pasteurized. By using milk T-Discs to make a latte or cappuccino, the Tassimo eliminates the need for a complicated steam wand or frothing attachment.
Update: You can now order Tassimo at Amazon.com.

Like we didn't know a perfect cup of coffee didn't produce some key benefits (including piece of mind). :-)
"When the Ink Spots sang "I love the java jive and it loves me" in 1940, they could not have known how right they were. Coffee not only helps clear the mind and perk up the energy, it also provides more healthful antioxidants than any other food or beverage in the American diet, according to a study released Sunday."

We found this rather cute article on dorm essentials at the Post Gazette. We couldn't agree with them more on having a Senseo in college. I happened to live in a co-op for part of my college living experience, and I would have killed for a Senseo over the coffee sludge downstairs often tainted with cinnamon! People were always trying to put stuff into the coffee grounds to "enhance" the flavor and I couldn't stand it. Just give me a perfect cup of coffee - oh Senseo, where were you in my college years!
"Hot coffee is another thing that most college students need in the morning, but the cost of a daily Starbucks can add up quickly. The no-fuss Senseo coffee maker ($70) brews one or two servings of coffee directly into the cup in just 30 seconds using pre-measured "pods" of coffee. This compact machine, which comes in bright blue, red or black, also turns off automatically after an hour so you don't have to worry about accidentally leaving it on all day. A bag of 72 individual coffee pods costs about $18 at Target."

Baronet Coffee just sent us a set of their new Fair Trade Decaf, Decaf Mocha Java, and 50/50 - Columbian coffee pods. We fired up the Bunn My Cafe and have to say - these are all good decaf and half caf coffees. We especially like the 50/50. After a long day of testing coffee pods, a little less caffeine can be good for the stomach.
We are also excited to see a Fair Trade coffee in Decaf. The beans used in the Fair Trade coffee pods are organically grown, and the brew produced is has a very rich taste and smell.
Baronet is also offering FREE Shipping on orders of 6 sleeves or more. Sleeves contain 18 coffee pods and are priced at $7.25 a sleeve making it just $.40 a coffee pod. All Baronet Coffee pods will fit your Bunn My Cafe, Home Cafe, or Senseo system and weigh in the 10 gram range.

Senseo is launching their new Forbidden fruits range. There will be 3 blends of coffee infused with fruit including in the picture - RAVING Reds! From what we can tell the flavors look to be Raspberry (Raving Red), Orange (Buzzer?) and one other fruit flavor. I hope we can see these stateside soon.
I was able to find a German site with some more info: Douwe Egberts SENSEO offers to you with "Forbidden Fruits " a completely new and daring coffee experience. Experience, how surprising taste can be, and can you from the unexpected combination of freshly gebruehtem coffee and intensive, fruchtigen and spicy flavours be enticed.
Thanks to CafePods for sending this in! If you know of more cool happenings in other part of the Single Serve Coffee world beside the US - !

Single serve coffee drinkers beware, there's a new mug in town - the Brugo™ Coffee Mug. This mug has a "Temperature Control Chamber" at the top which measures out a drinkable portion of coffee. It then cools it down to 150-170°F., which provides optimum taste at a comfortable temperature. The lid has three settings:
- "Tip and Cool", which allows you to drink using the Temperature Control Chamber
- "Sip" which bypasses the Chamber allowing to drink like a normal cup
- "Lock", which closes the cup.

It looks like a turkey baster but I assure you it's a caffe frother for your single serve coffee! My mom has a little one of these that's not as turbo, but I think if I got hooked (and I'm almost hooked on frothing my milk for coffee), I need a turbo froth.
You can froth just about anything: blend, froth, and whip milk, egg whites, and creams without bringing out the mixing bowl. Just grab the Caffe Froth Turbo's easy to hold body, insert the frothing disc into the liquid, and activate top button. The disc is small enough to fit into most cups and not damage the material.
How do you use it? Move the disc slowly up and down, while being careful not to bring the disc above the liquid. When the mixture is fully frothed, remove the Caffe Froth Turbo.

There's a new Nespresso in town - the Essenza. We're going to try and get a review machine for comparison to the Nespresso Romeo.
"In addition to the new advanced extraction system developed by Nespresso that allows for its smaller size, Essenza incorporates a new lever system, enabling easy introduction of each capsule while ensuring perfect functioning of the machine. With one simple touch of the lever, users can manually control the quantity of coffee in each cup to satisfy their specific preferences by producing either a perfect espresso or “long cup” coffee (110 ml). As with all Nespresso systems, the Essenza is also equipped with a 19 bar high-pressure pump and thermobloc guaranteeing optimal extraction and thus, the full measure of aromas, body, taste and smooth crema that distinguish superb espressos and coffees."

Renewable timber called Rubberwood? Yep. This coffee is only milled from rubber trees that have stopped producing latex. I have to say I never thought of what happened to an old Rubberwood tree - now I know.

Finally Amazon.com is carrying the Krups Home Cafe and not just through a Zshops merchant. I believe other readers have found this for as little as $99 from other online merchants, but I like Amazon.com's return policy and no tax plus free shipping.
The Krups KP1010 Home Cafe Brewing Machine is compatible with most coffee pods and also utilizes the Cappuccino coffee pods available from Folgers.

On this past Friday, we visited Green Mountain Coffee Roasters in Waterbury, VT. We aren't going to report all of our findings just yet, but we can tell you there are more K-Cup flavors coming like Fair Trade Wild Mountain Blueberry (Blueberry was a seasonal, but now will be permanent addition), a new French Vanilla, and others. The new flavors will be available September 19th.
Also, the Keurig B40 will be available in September at Green Mountain Coffee's web site, and that's just in time for you to pick one up for the holidays or back to school. Best of all, it should be priced at under $100.
On the visit front, I did get to participate in a cupping with two of Green Mountain Coffee Roaster's cuppers. It was a daunting amount of sniffing, coffee crust breaking, and slurping. We also have pictures of many of the machines that make those famous K-Cups.
Stay tuned for the article on the entire visit!
It's back to school time once again and many of your returning college students or college students themselves will need coffee that's quick and easy to make in their college apartment or college dorm. We are very excited to review the Nespresso Romeo before it launches this September. The machine is part of a new "Top Line" from Nespresso, and utilizes their coffee capsule loading system and is aptly named Romeo, as the coffee capsule is placed on a small balcony.
If you're not familiar with Nespresso, they like to divide their uniqueness into what they call, "The Nespresso Trilogy": the hermetically-sealed, iconic capsules with the large variety of Grand Cru ground coffees (their own specially picked coffees), the state-of-the-art, easy-to-use, sleek-looking coffee machines, and the Nespresso Club which offers unmatched personal service for ordering Nespresso Capsules.
Update: You can now purchase the Nespresso Romeo at Amazon.com

We're pleased to announce Linda Baughman has won the $50 dollar gift certificate from Amazon.com.
"I like Single Serve Coffee.com because they always have such a wide variety of coffee and low prices. They introduce you to many coffee pods that can't be found in stores. I love my coffee pods and for a single person one cup at a time is better than a whole pot you wind up pouring down the drain."

We've just received the new Krups KP1010 Home Cafe Pod Brewer for review. We're anxious to fire up the new Krups machine, and it looks like a there has been some improvements over the old Home Cafe line. The Krups Home Cafe Coffee Pod Brewer is available at Amazon.com and other online stores. We've yet to see the new Krups Home Cafe Pod Brewer in department stores, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time.
"Krups expertise in coffee brewing is combined with the convenience of Home Cafe coffee pods to produce a consistent, custom brewed cup of hot coffee in less than a minute. No coffee mess, no unused coffee down the drain, just perfect pressure-brewed coffeehouse taste on demand."

We know they make K-Cups and Coffee Pods and also pretty amazing coffee - but what else don't we know?
I'm visiting Green Mountain Coffee Roasters in Waterbury, VT this Friday and I'm giving YOU the chance to ask Green Mountain Coffee Roasters questions you want answers to.
Some Questions: What other flavors are coming out in K-Cups? What is your coffee pod strategy?
Any questions within reason you ask - I'll try and get answers to. I promise. :-)
