What is Java Juice? That's what we asked ourselves after finding out about this new pure coffee extract. You put this pouch of 100% organic coffee beans into a cup of hot water (they recommend filtered as we always do as well) and you've got a great 10-12oz cup of coffee. You can also add Java Juice to cold water with ice to make iced coffee any time you want. We'll be getting some Java Juice to review very soon and will give you our impressions after we receive it.

Both functional and a bit fashionalbe, these Ball-and-socket-handle mugs for retail for $50. the mugs feature a mug rack that allows you to put your coffee cup away by inserting the ball into the socket. Reminds us of someone around the SingleServeCoffee.com telling us we must have coffee mugs attached at the hip given all the coffee we drink. Well now at least we can simulate it.
Designed by one Chaiyut Plypetch they’re available from Gnr8.
Straight from the magical beauty and lush vegetation of the Blue Mountain range to you comes this rarest of all coffees! Jamaican Blue Mountain and at $2.25 per pod - it had better be good. These limited edition Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee pods will work in your Senseo, Bunn My Cafe, Krups Home Cafe, and simplehuman single serve coffee pod brewers and are available for a limited time at CoffeeWhiz.com.
Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee is famous for its clean, refined taste and hint of natural sweetness. It also tends to have an intensely bold aroma and excellent body. Where does Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee come from? This rare coffee pod's coffee from St. Andrews, Jamaica. Also did you know that the Jamaican Coffee grower gets a higher price for his coffee than any other coffee producing country? We're pretty sure we can tell given the price of these coffee pods.
How good was the coffee produced? How does $2.25 per pod coffee taste in your single serve coffee brewer?
Splash Magazines likes the Tassimo and we can agree - the Tassimo is quite the single serve/one cup coffee wonder. When we reviewed it last year in August 2005, we really enjoyed the range of drinks the machine could make. Since then we have followed up with a week with Tassimo in January of this year and enjoyed it then as well. If you haven't had a chance to sample Tassimo, you may want to check out Bed Bath & Beyond and other retailers on the weekend, as they are often giving demos.
While I have tested many of the single cup coffee brewers over the years, I have never been so satisfied. The quality and selection offered by Braun’s Tassimo is unchallenged. Within ten minutes of unpacking the machine I was enjoying my first cup. The entire set up process took less time that it would take to prepare a normal coffee maker to start brewing. After turning on the machine and filling the water reservoir, it was only a two step process to make a hot cup of coffee (unless you include the step of choosing what kind of coffee you want.)
Want to know how much caffeine is in that single serve cup of coffee you're brewing? Scientists have used camels and llamas to develop a method of measuring caffeine in drinks.
Both types of animals, called camelids by scientists, are among the few whose immune systems produce antibodies that are not destroyed by hot coffee. Researchers injected proteins linked to caffeine into the animals to elicit an immune response. The animals produced antibodies in their blood that were reactive to caffeine. Then in the lab, these antibodies were found to accurately indicate the amount of caffeine in hot coffee and also cold cola.
We're wondering if this is the best method to test for caffeine here at SingleServeCoffee.com. If so, we'll need to get a camel stable stat!

The Gorilla Mountain Limited Edition coffee pods sound good to us. Grown in a mountainous belt along the shores of the Lake Kivu, this geographical region is very dynamic with several active volcanoes. It also provides the last living habitat for the majestic Mountain Gorillas. Dedicated Co-operative farms averaging just 100 trees grow this amazing coffee - so you know it's got to be very limited.
Expect the Gorilla Moutain coffee to have a medium roasted flavor - giving a great body and with amazing cleanliness providing a rich after taste. These new coffee pods come in both 42 mm and 62 mm sizes. Cafe Pods provides a detailed list of what the size your single serve coffee pod brewer requires. The 62 mm coffee pod size will work in your Senseo, Bunn My Cafe, Krups Home Cafe, and simplehuman single serve coffee pod brewers.

Who doesn't want to make a cup of single serve coffee and then put on your Slimfit Palmers Caffeine Tights for an extra caffeine injection for your legs? These Palmers "Slim Fit 20" Caffeine Tights are imbued with caffeiene "micro capsules" which are activated by body heat. The product claims to improve skin elasticity, burn fat and tighten leg tissue. There's even a claim that If one wears the tights daily for 28 days, they can expect a "reduction in thigh measurement of up to 2cm."
The "Slim Fit 20" Caffeine Tights run £26.90 ($51) pack for a 3 pair. The site doesn't mention how long you can expect a single pair to be effective...but we can bet it's longer than your cup of coffee typically stays hot.
We almost forgot our own birthday! SingleServeCoffee.com has been going strong for over 2 years now. Happy Birthday to us! We remember foundly making our first cup of Single Serve Coffee in May of 2004 and have been making single serve coffee in coffee pod, k-cup, and even reuseable filter form since.
Two years? It's hard to imagine the entire Single Serve Coffee world would grow so much. We have more coffee pods to choose from, more K-cups, more Nespresso machines and flavors, and well - just more of everything Single Serve Coffee. We've even grown into a Single Serve Coffee Forums where you can discuss coffee all day long.
We want want to thank our readers who without you this wouldn't have happened. You come visit us each day and comment on our articles, help new people find their way, and also send us in great tips and tricks. Thank you.
We'd also like to thank our advertisers. Without advertising on the site we just couldn't do this everyday. As we've grown, so has the cost of operating such a big site with lots of pages and lots of visitors, and thanks to advertising we can pay to continue to operate and expand the site.
Thanks again to everyone for making the past two years some of the most enjoyable and coffee filled we've ever had. Here's to the next two years and more Single Serve Coffee!

Straight from the magical beauty and lush vegetation of the Blue Mountain range to you comes this rarest of all coffees! Jamaican Blue Mountain, famous for its clean, refined taste and hint of natural sweetness, is truly a delight to the senses. Its intensely bold aroma and excellent body will enwrap you cup after cup. This rare treasure is available to you direct from our suppliers in St. Andrews, Jamaica. We invite you to try this and tell us your thoughts. 1 POD - Individually Sealed
This ultra-compact espresso maker will make espresso on the go and is compact, light, and durable. Preva has a pretty exhaustive FAQ for any question you might have about the xSport Portable Espresso maker. We could see this being a pretty good choice for a long weekend hike or perhaps making a double shot cafe Americano on the side of a mountain.
What's new about the Nespresso Essenza C100? How about it stopping automatically when the espresso shot is done. We loved the Nespresso C90 but it didn't automatically shut off. Several times we've turned our back thinking it would shut off (all of our other single serve coffee machines do) and gone a little overboard on how much water made it to our espresso shot. The Nespresso C100 will also allow you to pick what shot to put on the brew button. You can choose between the 5 oz lungo shot or a standard espresso shot.
High-pressure pump (19 bars)
Thermoblock heating element
Programmable and automatic control of the amount of coffee in the cup
Functional handle allows for easy coffee preparation
Automatic ejection of used capsules on lifting the handle
Stomach friendly coffee. Stomach friendly coffee??? We're not saying we've never been bothered by drinking maybe 10 cups of coffee and feeling a bit of acid in our coffee laden stomachs - but from one cup or two? Never. We'd rather have great tasting coffee and a bit of weirdness in the stomach over some stomach friendly - not so great tasting coffee. Perhaps Simply Smooth from Folgers will have great taste too. Only time and a happy stomach will tell.
Proctor & Gamble is introducing "Folgers Simply Smooth", claiming to be the first nationally available stomach-friendly coffee in the United States. They say that some 35-40 million Americans have decreased or eliminated their coffee consumption due to weak stomachs. So, what makes it stomach-friendly? They say they use a special selection of coffee beans, and then roast it under a carefully monitored process. When the beans reach a certain color, they halt the roasting process and this is supposed to reduce the levels of gastric-irritants.
Folgers Simply Smooth will be available in medium-roast regular and decaffeinated varieties beginning in May 2006 at mass merchandisers, grocery and drug stores nationwide. We'll definitely try this our in our Keurig Reuseable Filter or our Eco-Pad for Senseo when it debuts.
TassimoDirect.com has a pretty good deal. Purchase any of the different Tassimo disc bundles and you'll receive 4 packages of T-DISCS for the price of 3.
Choose from the following 6 bundles. Each bundles contains 40 servings.
For $79.99 - what's not to like about this rather interesting coffee table from Ikea. The Hemberg Coffee Table features a storage drawer that floats beneath the table’s surface. Perhaps this storage drawer might be perfect for your K-Cups or Coffee Pods? The safety glass on top is designed to withstand a more weight than ordinary glass and perhaps more coffee cups.
For everyone here in the Northeast hiking season is upon us again. For making great coffee on the side of a mountain - well - you't don't have that many options. We think the Mountain Safety Research Mugmate Coffee/Tea Filter looks like it might be a great way to make coffee while hiking. We also think the Aeropress, though a bit larger, would also make an amazing coffee maker for hiking as well.
Great for grumpy mornings and chilly nights....Read More...No campsite meal is complete without a fresh-brewed cup of joe. After all, you didn't come to the mountains to suffer. Weighing in at under an ounce, and with no paper filters to dispose of, the MugMate Coffee/Tea Filter works with almost any mug or cup and packs away inside it.
We recently reviewed the new Aeropress Single Serve Coffee and Espresso maker here at Single Serve Coffee. We love it. It also appears that others are really loving the Aeropress as well. This article at the El Paso Times has some great insights into Alan Adler's passion for great products and great coffee.
Frisbees and espresso-coffee makers are a surprising link I discovered while strolling through the displays at the 2006 International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. Alan Adler offered me a fabulous cup of espresso made with his AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker.
There's no high-tech espresso machine or electrical drip brewer; Alan added ground coffee and hot water to the AeroPress placed atop a mug, stirred lightly and then pushed down on a plunger. In less than a minute I was enjoying a rich, smooth drink with low acidity and no bitter grains.
I was just on the Playfair Coffee site (EBAY store) and noticed they now carry the Higgins & Burke 9.5 gram coffee pods.18 pods per pack. The Higgins & Burke "Roast Meter" rates this coffeeon a scale of 1 to 7, with a 7 being the darkest.

You've made the perfect cup of single serve coffee but get called away to chat at the office or have to put the dog out. You come back and you've got a super cold cup of coffee. Oucher. The USB Hotplate and Port Hub will fix the problem and extend your USB Ports - keeping your coffee hot and your computer peripherals powered.
Full bodied, earthy, and dark does actually describe the Black Tiger Blend K-Cups from Coffee People. We've been drinking several of their blends over the past few days thanks to Jim Evans from CoffeeWhiz.com. We have found the Black Tiger - GRRR!!! to be quite good and very different. These new K-Cups will work in the Keurig B40, B50, and B60 brewers.
If you aren't familiar with Coffee People we wouldn't be surprised. Coffee People coffee shops mostly reside in the Oregon. It's really nice to see these K-Cups as they're a much smaller coffee company, however they were bought by Diedrich in 1999 so that may shed some light on how these K-Cups came to market.
Coffee People’s roots in Oregon can be traced to the Saturday Market in Eugene Oregon. Small amounts of specialty grade coffee were roasted and offered it for sale at the Saturday Market. The first Coffee People Coffeehouse was opened in 1983 on NW 23 Street in Portland.
In July 1999, Coffee People became part of the Diedrich Coffee Family. The rich authentic coffee heritage of Diedrich Coffee and the product portfolio of Coffee People have proved to be a perfect match. While Coffee People continues its creative, local, and innovative approach to coffee service, Diedrich Coffee, a high end specialty coffee roaster, now expertly roasts Coffee People’s special blends according to traditional Coffee People recipes to honor the heritage of this concept, pioneered in Portland.
What did we think of the Black Tiger coffee from Coffee People?
The next time you want to convince someone that single serve coffee is as good as coffee made from their silly drip coffee maker - just hand them a cup of coffee. New studies done in Australia are pointing the way to coffee being the perfect catalyst for someone to actually hear your argument, listen intently, and perhaps even be convinced.
Caffeine, for a brief time, will increase your ability to concentrate and take in new information. When voluntary subjects were given a persuasive argument on a controversial topic after having coffee, they were more likely to agree with it than they were before they had the drink. They were also far more likely to be persuaded than the non-caffeinated control group. The subjects who had the caffeine processed all the information that was given to them in the argument, instead of relying on their preconceptions and simply ignoring the bits that they did not want to hear.
Jim Evans from CoffeeWhiz.com has sent along some pictures and info via the Single Serve Coffee Forums regarding the new Keurig B140 Commercial single serve brewer. The Keurig B140 isn't for the masses but it is for coffee shops, work places, and other areas where you need coffee diversity and you want stability. The new Keurig B140 commercial brewer features a knob for dialing up or down your coffee size, a descaler, and is a pour over model.
Later this year Keurig will be releasing a plumbed version to eliminate the need to fill the machine all the time. The brewer should be available to commercial establishments for a price of $275. We'll keep you posted on this brewer and see if they release it for the consumer market or if you can somehow get one regardless of being a commercial establishment.
We would imagine this will make the B100 a thing of the past. We were never a big fan of the B100 and always believed the Keurig B40, B50, and B60 were big improvements over the older Keurig Commercial brewer.
Hey - it's Cinco de Mayo. We recommend firing up your Keurig or Coffee Pod brewer and making a little mexican coffee! CHA CHA CHA!!! Have a great weekend everyone.
Tony works at La Gondola restaurant in Rosarita, Mexico - - that's the area of Mexico known as Baja California. This little bar, with an Italian name, is near the beach where the salt water breeze blows in from the ocean. All the tourists come by inquiring about the different tequilas, and Tony has all the answers. His recipe for Mexican Coffee uses white tequila, which is more subtle tasting and has less of a bite than some of the other types of tequila.
Ingredients:
Fresh, Single Serve coffee from your Single Serve Coffee Maker
1 oz. of White Tequila (example: Orendein brand tequila)
1 oz. Cacao liqueur/syrup
Whipped cream
We really liked the Self-Heating Latte from Wolfgang Puck, but it looks like the cans are now exploding, melting or not heating up the coffee enough to create the “fresh-brewed” latte the technology promised. And this week they were officially recalled. Ouch! You can read the full deal at Bevnet.
Launched to great fanfare in the spring of 2005, the lattes quickly made it to the shelves of thousands of stores, including large, end of aisle displays in Kroger and Albertson’s supermarkets and Sam’s Club warehouse stores. But in less than a year, the team that produced the innovative product has fallen apart.
Consumer complaints have ranged from the product’s failure to reach an appropriately hot temperature to it actually overheating, spurting product from the can, leaking out of the can, or the calcium oxide heating mechanism adulterating the coffee itself, according to Groux.
“We have reports of chunks of white product, which we believe to be calcium oxide, that was found in the product, which means the heating element most likely leaked,” Groux said. “We have complaints of can meltdowns, curdled product, sour product, leaking cans.” Last month, a Las Vegas woman named Dee Harris claimed she had been badly burned by one of the drinks when she activated it in her hotel room. She claims it overheated and then blew up, sending her to the hospital. “I went to pick it up, but it was too hot,” Harris said. “I pulled my hand off of it, it exploded. It was just sitting on the counter, no one had touched it. It just blew all over everything.”
Imagine driving to work in the morning and firing up your in-car single serve coffee maker for a nice cup of coffee. Wow. This marks the second concept we've seen in less than two weeks surrounding getting a coffee maker into your car. Hey - we treat our cars like mobile music, entertainment, and works of art - why not treat them like a single serve coffee maker on wheels too?
The WMF espresso machine features in Audi's latest concept car (the Roadjet) and sits neatly in the central arm rest between the passenger. WMF claim their machine is "fully functional" and "provides fresh coffee at the touch of a button". Now presuming you'll have to top this up before you set off on a journey, I would be very worried about a spillage occuring during a traffic slowdown.
Don't get us wrong - we like computers, but we love our coffee computer tables even more. This coffee table is made from an original 26-inch hard drive platter from a 1967 Control Data Corporation 6603 Disk File Controller. The center hub of the platter and the custom-made pedestal are both made from solid aluminum, and the entire platter is covered with a 1/4-inch piece of table glass to protect its surface and of course it's data.
For the tech-heads out there, looking at the original manual (PDF) this drive could store 37,355,520 12-bit words which works out to be about 53 MB of total storage. (37,355,520 * 12 /8 = 56,033,280 bytes /1024 /1024 = 53.4 MB) Given this drive was made in 1967 I was expecting it to be far smaller than that so I’m quite impressed. Of course the entire drive would have probably consisted of at least 6 platters like this one so you can only imagine how big it was when completely assembled.
We're pretty sure we might want to lock the top of a coffee cup to keep people at a diner from pouring more coffee in and ruining the mix, however this lockable cup is more for people who share for instance a kitchen in a Company.
The cup has a hole, that can only be closed with a special key, so only the owner of the cup can use it with the key.
We know everyone who visits here is in search of a single cup of perfect coffee and often times we forget that it doesn't just have to be coffee pods, K-Cups or even Nespresso Coffee Capsules. Sometimes here at SingleServeCoffee.com we take out our Eco-Pad reuseable coffee filter, K-Cup Reuseable Coffee Filter or our Aeropress and get some fresh roasted coffee at our local Whole Foods. It's a nice change and you feel really empowered to see what amount of coffee works and what method has different tastes and textures.
We have recently been introduced by friends to home roasting using a hot air popcorn popper. There is a great series of photos on Flickr that’ll explain and show you how to roast your own coffee with this method. We think this might be a nice addition to our coffee exploration here at Single Serve Coffee. Check out the photo expose and see what you think. We think we're up for it.
Timothy's has been making great coffee in the US and Canada for quite awhile and last year we were very excited to be able to get their coffee at home using K-Cups and our Keurig B50 brewer. Now we're even more excited to be able to use their coffees in our coffee pod brewers. The new Timothy's coffee pods will work in your Senseo, Bunn My Cafe, Krups Home Cafe, and simplehuman single serve coffee pod brewers.
The coffee used in Timothy's Rainforest Espresso comes from 100% Rainforest Alliance certified beans, sourced from a farm in Brazil. Certification protects workers. Certified farms hire locally, pay fair wages, and ensure safe working conditions and access to clean drinking water and proper sanitary facilities. In all, more than 50,000 farm families are enjoying the benefits of the program.
Another month goes by and so fast given all the caffeine we've had and how many coffees we've sampled here at SingleServeCoffee.com. The big news around here last month (besides all the SingleServeCoffee.com reviews and news) was getting new hosting to make the web site faster and more responsive for all of you. We can't thank you enough for coming each day to read SingleServeCoffee.com - expect better navigation, better page load times, and overall more cool coffee stuff. Now on with the monthly roundup!
Wow. Big news on the Keurig/K-Cup front as it appears Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. will acquire a controlling share in the Keurig company. It also appears they are still committed to not only having Green Mountain K-Cups but also K-Cups will continue to be produced for Tully's Coffee, Diedrich, and others. That's good news - the best news is - the commitment to the Keurig as a platform. For everyone here at SingleServeCoffee.com we're pretty excited to see the co-development of the Keurig platform continue from Green Mountain's side along with a guarantee the Keurig system is here to stay.
Betterpods.com has the entire line of Reunion Island Coffee pods now available at their web store. They are also offering 10% off on all their coffees to celebrate until Friday May 5th. We think the Sumatra Dark coffee pod looks pretty yummy if you ask us.
