We've featured this coffee table before, but now you can buy it direct from the UK. The aquarium coffee tables range anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000, so this might not be your first purchase in a coffee table, but we think if you are out to impress or REALLY REALLY love fish under you coffee in the morning, this is perfect for you.
The tank is equipped over a unique filter system that allows for as little maintenance as possible. It does come with all the plants and rocks which are specially made for the tank which is nice for the $3000 price tag.
Thanks to Jim for pointing this out.

If you aren't familiar with Pantone colors, chances are you aren't a graphic designer. In the past, many of the staff here at Single Serve Coffee enjoyed Pantone 168 C (a very nice red) and other Pantone colors. Even if you are not a designer, we think these brightly colored interesting mugs should pick up your single serve coffee morning.

We just came upon the Presso Espresso maker when doing a bit of research on an upcoming review for the Senseo Presso kit we just acquired from an ebay seller. The presso looks more like a juice machine than an espresso maker, but from the video and materials we've found it looks like it makes a pretty solid espresso. From what we can see you fill the top chamber, put in some espresso ground coffee, and then press down. Bam - a shot of perfect espresso. The only way to buy right now seems to be from Australia at just over $600 AU, and that includes a grinder and other items.

Some mornings you want a light cup of coffee and some mornings you want a coffee that can pick you up and be a bit on the darker side. Gevalia Morning Roast has just come out for Tassimo and it's in the darker camp. What do we think? is this a good alternative to a lighter cup of coffee in the morning to get things kicked off?

We've just received the BUONGIORNO Ricco Espresso Capsules for the Lavazza Blue Espresso system. We reviewed the Lavazza Blue System last year and loved it, and think adding new flavors like the Ricco can only make this system better. This newly available coffee blend combines Brazilian and Central American Arabica coffees with varieties of East Asian Robusta. You can now order a box containing 100 capsules with 12 months shelf life. We'll have a full review soon.

The perfect portable single serve coffee maker for camping.
On a rather large clean out and then re-visit of past articles we've yet to publish (yes - we are bad - we know it), we have uncovered the Jetboil French Press that comes with Green Mountain Coffee. We really enjoyed the Jetboil French Pressed coffee last year with our family, so we decided to take it out for another spin and review, and to share some of the pictures we took last fall with some new ones on this impressive product for camping.
What is a Jetboil mini-stove? It's really a personal or group cooking system that has a burner and large cup to make drinks, soup, and other items in. It's very lightweight and compact, with everything you need fitting back inside the cup so you can hike or camp with it.

Can you say $180 bucks off the regularly priced $799 Nespresso Romeo? We can. We love the footprint, we love the design, and most importantly, we love the coffee and espresso it produces. Having reviewed the Nespresso Romeo 350 not that long ago, we remember fondly the little capsule retreating from the balcony, and becoming a perfect cup of single serve coffee. YUM!
Right now Amazon.com has the Nespreso Romeo listed for $180 dollars off. Sign up for Amazon Prime and you'll also get 2 day shipping. Amazon Prime may cost $79 bucks, but think of the $180 you save to get this killer deal of 2 day shipping on just about any Amazon.com item - including coffee pods, k cups, and T Discs.

We really like the design of this coffee cup for your home. The finned ceramic cup for hot beverages can be held without burning the drinkers hands, because the fin structures put distance between the held surface and the hot liquid. The distance allows for a natural grip, as heat is dispersed to gently warm the hands instead of burn them.

We really like the Coffee People offerings for our Keurig Elite B40 Brewer, Keurig B50, Keurig Special Edition Ultra Elite B60, and the Keurig B70 Brewer. We've been going through the entire box of Coffee People K-Cups, Wake Up Call Bold on a regular basis, and think this extra-bold K Cup will be perfect for that "wake up call" we all need. These K Cups come packed in 2-25 count boxes for just $19 bucks.

Cafepods has combined their European web site and their US site into one super site. What does that mean to US customers? You only have to visit Cafepods to order your coffee pods. They've also updated their coffee pod packs to make shipping cheaper to US customers. New pack changes including the new 18 pack Double (14g) coffee pods.
Also, from June 1st they are now shipping to the US at super rates, with orders over 40% cheaper than before thanks to a new courier they are using for international deliveries. For example an average order of 10 x 18 double (14g) 62mm pods ( 180 pods total ) including delivery is just £42.95 ( $77 approx ). That's less than 42 cents for each pod including delivery.
We've really enjoyed the coffee pods from Cafepods, so we think you should check them out if you own a Senseo, Bunn My Cafe, Melitta One:One, simplehuman, Krups 1010 , GPOD, Home Cafe and other single serve coffee pod makers.

We know this is a site on single serve coffee, but we also like our single serve tea. Now, we've heard this for years - all kinds of black and green teas - not just Oolong can help you lose weight. But now there seems to be even more medical evidence from a study that it's true: drinking tea can help you lose weight.
Researchers spent five years studying obesity, with the focus on children, the China Daily said. "They found that the polyphenol compound in tea -- especially Oolong tea -- can help obese people battle the bulge," the newspaper said. "Scientists have proved that drinking tea can help people lose weight."
"It has been confirmed that the continuous intake of Oolong tea contributes to enhancing the function of fat metabolism and to controlling obesity," it says of a tea produced and consumed primarily in the southeast of the country.
Not to get all technical, but it seems that the polyphenol compound in tea enhances the function of fat metabolism, which helps you lose weight. Researchers in China have been studying this for five years, paying special attention to how it affects kids. And Oolong seems to work the best.

We just found out (thanks Cafepods) about the Melitta FilterPads (50 count) For the Senseo and other Pod Coffee Machines. These "filterpads" allow you to use your own coffee and create your own coffee pods for your Senseo, Bunn My Cafe, Melitta One:One, simplehuman, Krups 1010 , GPOD, Home Cafe and other single serve coffee pod makers. Unlike the Perfect Pod Maker, the Melitta Filterpads also don't require a dedicated heat press device to seal the coffee pods you make. We'll be ordering up a set of these to review very soon.
Here's how it works:
- Fill it with 3-4 teaspoons ground 'drip coffee' or ground espresso coffee (the finer the better).
- Push the flap inside, and make sure the coffee is spread evenly in the filterpad. Make sure the filterpad is closed securely.
- Put the filterpad in your 'pod holder' of the machine you have, close the lid and make the coffee!
- The finer the grind, the better the results. So don't use coffee that is ground too coarse. A 'drip coffee' grind is fine enough (but espresso or Turkish grind is better).
- The optimum 'filling amount' is 6-8 grams of ground coffee. This is 3-4 LEVEL teaspoonful.
- Remove any loose grains of coffee off the closed padfilter before putting it in the pod coffee machine.
- Used filterpads can be put with the green waste since they are biodegradable!

This is a great idea for people who just can't seem to remember that coffee is REALLY HOT - make the the lid of your single serve coffee grow a bit more red if the coffee is really hot and then make it a nice maroon if it's cooler. Seems like a no brainer and something that McDonald's and other restaurants should look into for those hot coffee - sue the restaurant type of customer.

Looks like coffee pod sales for Senseo are up 30% over this same time last year. That's good news for all of us single serve coffee pod drinkers. We've noticed a much larger coffee pod presence at our local supermarkets, Target's, and other retailers as well. Here's to an amazing 2007 for single serve coffee!
One is an increased focus on the Senseo coffee pod system, designed for single-serve coffee drinkers, which saw sales increase 30% for the first nine months of fiscal 2007. Sara Lee also has introduced a line of cold ready-to-drink coffees for young customers and wants to capitalize on the shift from in-home coffee drinking to out-of-home coffee purchases.

Father's Day is fast approaching and anything Single Serve Coffee is sure to please Dad. Right now Amazon.com has some of the best deals on Single Serve Coffee items, along with the Cafe Express club at Green Mountain. We like any of the club ideas for parents, as you can give the the coffee maker and each month they'll get more coffee for it without them calling and bugging you. Trust me - you don't want your parents calling you caffeine deprived.
If you were going to buy any of the Single Serve Coffee machines right now in time for father's day - we recommend the following four levels of Father's Day gift buying: Out of this World at $800, Over $200, $165 and Under, and Under $100.
Out of This World $800 - Nespresso E350 Romeo
We recommend the Nespresso E350 Romeo Single-Serve Automatic Espresso Machine. It's sleek interesting and well - expensive. Perhaps you could go in on this for your Dad with some of those other siblings but take most of the credit for finding such an amazing espresso machine. - (Read our review)
Bunn My CafeOver $200 - Bunn My Cafe or Nespresso Essenza Bundles
We recommend the Bunn My Cafe coffee brewer and a set of the Aloha Island Coffee pods for Dads. It's the perfect combination to get started in the coffee pod world and Bunn has great product and a great brewer. - (Read our Review)
We also recommend the Nespresso C100T Essenza Single-Serve Automatic Espresso Machine. You can also join the Nespresso Club after signing up to continue to get the Nespresso capsules sent to your Dad. (Read our Review)
$165 and Under - Keurig B60 Bundle & Cafe Express
We recommend the Keurig B60 and Cafe Express Club from Green Mountain. This combo will result in a great brewer with little mess and over 48 Free K-Cups by signing up your Dad for the Cafe Express club. - (Read our Review)
Under $100 - Senseo or Keurig Bundle
We recommend the Senseo (in black of course) and a extra set of Senseo Dark Roast pods. It's the basics of single serve coffee, and with the Senseo at $50 bucks - hard to pass up. This deal will be at most $65 and you might even eek out some free shipping. - (Read our Review)
We also recommend the Keurig B40 and Cafe Express Club from Green Mountain. The Keurig B40 has only two cup sizes, but it's also only $99 bucks. (Read our Review)
On a recent trip to our local Shaw's Supermarket, we found this mid-aisle kiosk for Green Mountain Coffee and the Keurig B40 single serve brewer. We like the selection, and we really like the idea of being able to get our K Cups at our local Shaw's Supermarket. We're not sure what other grocery stores they are doing this in, but perhaps in the comments you can give us some insight.

We just spent the weekend kicking back with our Tassimo brewing up the Twinings Chai Tea Latte T Discs. We've got quite the crew of Chai Tea Latte drinkers here at Single Serve Coffee. Often, the entire crew will venture out to Starbucks to get what they consider the "best Chai Tea Latte" around. Other Chai Tea Lattes can be had at Pete's coffee, or even at Dunkin Donuts. Each of the Chat Tea Lattes are always a bit different at the various coffee shops. The Starbucks Chai Tea latte is considered to be the most balanced with sweetness and milky goodness and Pete's is in solid second place.
So, this brings us back to the do it at home Chai Tea Latte crowd. The Twinings Chai Tea Latte T Discs for Tassimo consist of a Chai Tea T Disc and a Latte creamer milk T Disc. You combine these two T Discs into one Chai Tea Latte that you can make at home. How does the Twining Chai Tea Latte stack up against our local coffee shops? Does our staff like the Twinings Chai Tea Latte as an alternative to a $4.50 drink at a coffee shop?

We're very excited Tassimo is continuing to come out with amazing drinks for their hot beverage system. One of the staff here at Single Serve Coffee (Maya over at Kitchen Contraptions) is probably the biggest Tai Chi Latte fan we've ever seen. Not only does she purchase a Tai Chi Latte just about everywhere we go, she's yet to be impressed with us making her one at the office.
Hopefully these new Twinings Chai Tea Latte Tassimo T Discs will pass her stringent test. The Twinings Chai Tea Latte Tassimo T Discs come packed with 8 chai tea t discs and 8 latte t discs allowing you to make 8 Twinings Chai Tea Lattes. These T Discs will work in your Tassimo TA1400 and TA1200 hot beverage systems.
We'll have a full run down on Monday. If you can't wait and need to order they are available at Tassimo and at Twinings Chai Tea Latte for Tassimo Coffee and Beverage Makers.

First of all - we love bacon, and second of all we love bacon and coffee. The Taz Ah mug can accomplish both these things and even cloak your coffee nose in a pig snout. You could also look at this mug and say, "What a great way to have someone have no idea they look like a pig." Because at plain sight, the Taz Ah is a white bone china mug, very thin, very high quality, and ready for pranks. However you use it, this mug is sure to be a hit for anyone getting or receiving it. You can also get the mug with a rabbit nose too, but we're bummed the dog nose is sold out.

We recently took a trip to Philadelphia to visit the folks that make Flavia. We've enjoyed the Flavia line of single serve coffee products since it's launch in the US way back in 1996, and had our first Flavia single serve coffee in 1999 at an office we worked at.
Since then, Flavia has launched a line of single serve coffee makers for the home and office with the Flavia Fusion Drinks Station, Flavia Fusion Deluxe Drinks Station, and the Creation 400 for the office. On our trip we really wanted to get behind the scene and talk with Flavia about what they're doing, and how they see growing single serve coffee as a consumer offering, and see how they make the Flavia filter packs for the Flavia Drinks Station.

We ask that question ourselves all the time - what does make coffee bitter? Over at bookofjoe they've found a pretty amazing article on just why it happens - and the interesting answer is how complex the answer to the question is.
Here's a snippet from the entire article at the New York Times:
A Bitter Cup
Q. What makes coffee bitter?
A. Coffee is a complex chemical soup, and many of its chemicals, including some that produce astringency rather than bitterness, and even some acids, have been implicated in the perception of bitterness.
Bitterness also depends on variables including the coffee variety; how it is processed and roasted; the brewing method, temperature and time; and even the chemical content of the water.
Some degree of bitterness is desirable in coffee, according to the Coffee Research Institute, because it reduces the perception of acidity, for a more balanced flavor.
Some of the possible chemical culprits include quinic, chlorogenic, caffeic, citric, malic, lactic, pyruvic and acetic acids; 5-hydroxymethylfurfural; methyl furan; furfuryl mercaptan; trigonelline; pyrazine; thiazole; quinoline; phenylpyridine; and caffeine itself.
Studies reported by the institute suggest that perceived bitterness can be reduced by using hard or soft water, as opposed to distilled water; brewing at high temperatures, perhaps because more aromatic chemicals are released, canceling out the bitter ones; and using varieties other than robusta coffee, which has more caffeine and chlorogenic acid.
The institute also suggests using medium-roast coffee, which has a lower level of soluble solids; brewing using a drip system, which also cuts down the release of soluble solids; and perhaps using a coarser grind.

Keurig and K Cup display at Bed Bath & Beyond
We've been making our way around several stores lately to see what Tassimo and Keurig have to offer in more brick and mortar environment instead of online. After a recent visit to Bed Bath & Beyond (you can use their store locater here), we were quite surprised to see Keurig and Tassimo back to back in a store offering. Don't get us wrong, it's not odd to see both in the same single serve coffee aisle - or single cup coffee offering area - but it was pretty stunning to see a wall of both T Discs and K Cups in a mid-aisle single serve coffee offering.

One of the more interesting benefits of owning a Flavia Fusion Drinks Station or the Flavia Fusion Deluxe Drinks Station is the ability to create different type of FUSION drinks by combining different filter packs. We had no idea before our visit to Flavia (full article coming next week), that each month they put out different coffee drink recipes. This month's recipe is a Milky Way Swirl. We really liked the hot chocolate/Milky way drinks and think this recipe sounds pretty yummy.
Here's what you'll need:
- 1 Milky Way Swirl Filterpack
- 1 FLAVIA Gourmet, Single Origin, Flavored or Decaf Coffee Filterpack Ice
- Whipped cream (optional)
Here's what you do:
- Insert the Milky Way Swirl Filterpack and press the Frothy 2-Pack button to brew. divider
- Insert your favorite Gourmet Coffee Filterpack and press the Frothy 2- Pack button to brew. divider
- Pour over ice or place in blender with ice and top with whipped cream.
