Europe: The WMF 1 Design Object Single Serve Coffee Maker
We're not sure how we missed this single serve coffee maker, but Gizmodo found it recently and it looks pretty amazing. The WMF 1 is a coffee pad/pod-based single-serve coffee machine, which integrates a cup into its minimalist cubic design that's not much bigger than a couple of books. The almost Apple like design can be livened up with your choice of four colors for the lining. After dumping in the water and pressing a button, it only takes a minute to brew your coffee.
Take A Single Serve Coffee Vacation to Canada with the Wiz
Sometimes even we are surprised at the amazing things CoffeeWiz.com will put together for the world of Single Serve Coffee. If you haven't had a chance to visit their Family Vacation promotional page about a trip to Canada - then you know what you have to do for the rest of the day. Not only is the trip filled with details on Timothy's Coffee - it's really quite funny.
A crystal wonder that harkens back to a time when we longed of drinking single serve coffee in Superman's Fortress of Solitude. Made with a crystalline structure that supports the table top, we think this coffee table is an instant classic and worthy of coffee with Superman himself.
We are always learning something new in the Single Serve Coffee Forums - herbal coffee that tastes like a Pina Colada? Herbal coffee is something the staff is not that familiar with at Single Serve Coffee, but it does sound intriguing. What is this herbal coffee called? Teeccino.
Teeccino Caffeine-free Herbal Coffee made of a blend of herbs, grains, fruits and nuts that are roasted and ground to brew and taste just like coffee. Unlike instant coffee substitutes, Teeccino brews just like coffee in all types of coffee brewers. Teeccino comes in seven different flavors including: Vanilla Nut, Mocha, and regular Herbal Teeccino.
We'll see if we can track some Teeccino down to sample and review. Sounds interesting to the staff here at Single Serve Coffee, but we're not going giving up our precious caffeine any time soon.
Introductions can be tough and they can be even tougher when it's in a music video. It looks like Enrique Iglesias has gotten the introduction of a lifetime - the Nespresso Le Cube and a very hot barista. The music video features a Nespresso Le Cube in arctic white and also a rather attractive young woman making a shot of Nespresso espresso for Mr. Iglesias. Do you think they'll add an MP3 player and barista to purchase at the Nespresso online store? Time and music videos can only tell.
Review: Timothy's World Coffee Sumatran Gold Extra Bold K Cups for Keurig
We've been trying some extra bold K Cups after lately due to poor weather here in the Northeast. There's really nothing like a little rain to drive us to darker roasts. Timothy's World Coffee has put out Sumatran Gold Extra Bold K Cups for Keurig and they are supposed to be so powerful they can stand up to cream in the coffee. We can safely say, they are powerful enough to drive a little rain induced depression back and then some.
It's Monday and the week of Comic-Con is upon us. If you don't know what Comic-Con is - it's the largest single gathering of comic book authors, artists, and collectors on the planet and the entire staff at Single Serve Coffee would really like to be there (maybe next year). Why feature Comic-Con at Single Serve Coffee? How about a coffee opera. This years opera is entitled, "Too Much Coffee Man" is based on a comic book (which you should read) and features characters like Espresso Guy and others. We've really never seen an opera, but if we had to start our opera going life - we'd love to start it with coffee - and too much coffee at that.
Comic-Con brings Shannon Wheeler's Too Much Coffee Man Opera to San Diego for three FREE performances for convention members plus two community performances. The Opera will be performed LIVE at the Horton Grand Theater (also known as the "Triple Espresso" Theater), 444 Fourth Avenue in downtown San Diego, a few short blocks from the Convention Center (click here for a map).
The opera, created by Shannon Wheeler and based on his famous comics character, chronicles the tragedy when Too Much Coffee Man, a simple, average cup o'joe, falls for his caffeine-supplying barista. Vying for her attention is Espresso Guy. Can all this coffee peacefully co-exist in the already-twitchy world of relationships?
Simplehuman Single Serve Coffee Pod Brewer A40 in Black Steel
Looking to dress up your kitchen with some "black tie" appliances? Look no further than this new release of the simplehuman A40 single serve coffee pod brewer in black steel! We do like our current simplehuman brewer in stainless steel, but we could be persuaded to get a black one. It's a bit hard to tell whether the brewer has any other changes to it besides the color, but we think not. It's a nice change to an a very nice coffee pod brewer and would fit in great with our black granite countertops. Read our review of the simplehuman pod brewer to find out more about the simplehuman A40 coffee pod brewer.
We're ready for the future and ready for an LED interactive coffee table to grace our house. Made of 100% sustainable wood and water-based finishes, this Coffee Table is large enough for a big room at 62" long by 31" wide by 18" high and comes with either a with a nice thick glass or plastic top. The LEDs are only activated when they see motion. As you can see in the pictures, even though the person's hand is on the table, only things moving will set off the lights. Without motion the table calms down to a very slight attractive twinkling.
The Single Serve Coffee We're Drinking for July 2007
Okay - we admit it. We're supposed to do this column monthly, but give us a break - it's Summer and really nice out. Our coffee consumption doesn't really suffer too much in the Summer though, as we like to ice down some coffee drinks, or we may even head to the basement to cool off with a nice espresso in the afternoon. What is the staff here at Single Serve Coffee currently drinking? Let's give you the run down on: Tassimo, Keurig, Coffee Pods, Flavia, Nespresso, and anything espresso related.
Single serve coffee drinkers who want to start their day on an ecologically friendly note may want to fill their mugs with Solar Roast Coffee—a fresh new brew for java lovers that is roasted using clean abundant solar energy.
Solar Roast Coffee uses only 100% organic or fair trade coffee beans. Their special solar-powered roasting technique ensures the least impact on the environment. Not just a regular roaster powered by solar panels, Solar Roast’s Helios 2.0 catches rays of sunshine directly on a drum roaster filled with beans. The roaster is capable of reaching temperatures upwards of 550 degrees Fahrenheit, and swivels and tilts allowing it to track the sun throughout the day.
The first Solar Roast Cafe opened in Pueblo early this year, and the company already has plans to open more locations in the western U.S, and also operates an online store. Coffees begin around USD 12 per pound.
Review: Daybreak Morning Blend Caribou Coffee K Cups for Keurig
We were very excited when Caribou Coffee joined the Keurig camp just this Spring. Why so excited? From our limited experience with Caribou Coffee in our travels across the US - we've always enjoyed most of the coffee we've sampled. We decided to check out their Daybreak Morning Blend K Cups for Keurig as our first review instead of going to a more bold coffees they offer. The Daybreak Blend should be sweet and light and have a hint of Ethiopian beans in the flavor. How does it hold up to the description and other morning / breakfast blend K Cups?
Fuel Cell Beverage Heater Keeps Your Single Serve Coffee Hot
We like our single serve coffee hot, and if it starts to slip below a certain level of hotness, we often resort to horrible measures like the microwave or just brewing another cup (okay not so horrible). In the future it looks like we'll all benefit from this little device that hangs on the side of your coffee cup and keeps your beverage hot. The Portable Beverage Heater is a molded plastic, single-use device that can be clipped to the side of a mug. It creates heat from solid and organic body form using fuel cell and its thermographic ink changes color to indicate when the beverage is hot.
So far this new coffee mug heater is just a concept from designer Seungheon Lee, but one can hope that in the future this device gets produced to keep all of our coffee a little hotter.
Review: Senseo Presso Espresso Kit for Senseo Standard Editions
A new "espresso" coffee pod holder and special espresso coffee pods.
We must get 10+ reader write ins each month asking if you can use espresso pods with your Senseo single serve coffee pod brewer - the answer is - you can't. Espresso pods are much smaller - usually 44 mm compared to a 60mm coffee pod, and just don't fit the Senseo coffee pod holder. What you can do is order the Senseo Espresso Starter on ebay that's only out in Europe, and get a pretty good shot of espresso on the cheap.
The kit has two new items for your Senseo Standard editions. A new espresso coffee pod holder that uses standard sized Senseo coffee pods called "presso", and a new darker blend and finer grind Senseo espresso coffee pod.
Note: This kit will only work in your Senseo Standard editions. So if you have a new Senseo Deluxe or Senseo Supreme here in the US - don't order this kit. The espresso coffee pod holder will not fit in your machine if you don't have a Senseo Standard edition.
July Caffeine and Coffee Links from Single Serve Coffee
We read just about everything you can find on caffeine and coffee here at Single Serve Coffee. We also read what other people write about the things we've written. Here are some juicy links on caffeine and coffee.
Okay - so maybe not a beehive coffee table, but you can see how the design would translate to a pretty amazing coffee table design. Designer Hoon Roh is one of those interesting designers that look to nature for inspiration in regard to design and function. Bees are pretty amazing insects and this table really reflects that.
Trung Nguyen Vietnamese Coffee - G7 Instant 3-in-1 White Coffee
We recently visited our local farmer's market and happened upon this interesting coffee - Trung Nguyen Vietnamese Coffee. The name is pronounced "choon-win" and comes in little instant packets. The G7 so far after sampling a few packets is quite good. The taste is indeed far richer and has the full-bodied flavor that is absent from most instant coffee like you would find in a Nescafe or coffee extract. We'll have a full review soon.
Trung Nguyen created a state of the art facility in Buon Me Thuot to process G7 3-in-1 and it has been the top Asian "white coffee" since. While not tasting quite like their brewed coffee, this is great cup of coffee to bring with you when traveling or when you don't want to brew. All you need is hot water and you can have gourmet coffee anywhere... in your hotel, at breakfast, when camping in the hills, etc. Many offices and shops offer this coffee as a perk to employees, especially if they don't want to maintain a brewing station. It's the ultimate in convenience.
Senseo Presso Espresso Coffee Pods and Holder Arrive for Review
We just received our Senseo Espresso Starter box from Germany. Yep - this is only available in Europe and that's a bummer, but if you can get one (try ebay), you can make Espresso with your Senseo coffee maker. This kit will only work in your Senseo Standard editions.
From the site:
Enjoy type Espresso with Senseo® It a small cup of strong, qualitatively high-quality coffee with fine Crema - and in the hand turning! But Douwe Egberts and Philips developed a completely new technology - consisting of the special Senseo® type Espresso Pads and the special Senseo® type Espresso PAD owner. Simply strongly.
