Keurig K-Cup Brewing Tip: Get Extra Bold Coffee with Regular K-Cups
We just had a reader write in a pretty amazing tip on how to make your regular K-Cups make an extra bold cup of single serve coffee.
I have a B70 Kuerig B70 and figured out how to get the extra bold effect with a regular k-cup.
Just put the k-cup in then start the 5.25 oz cycle until the k-cup just starts dripping.
Then lift the handle and let it sit for 30 seconds (or a little less) then go ahead and make the 5.25 oz serving.
Comes out much stronger this way! This method would probably make an extra bold coffee fill a taller cup and taste as good as the small size. Yum!
Review: Melitta Filterpads - Make Your Own Coffee Pods
The Melitta "filterpads" allow you to use your own ground coffee, and create coffee pods for Senseo, Bunn My Cafe, Melitta One:One, simplehuman, Krups 1010 , GPOD, Home Cafe and other single serve coffee pod makers. This is very much like the Perfect Pod Maker, but you don't have to seal the coffee pods using a device. However, you can't use as much coffee in the Melitta Padfilters. You can expect to get around 6-7grams of coffee into the coffee pad filter from Melittta, and more than 11 grams of coffee in a Perfect Pod filter pad. For the review we used both the Senseo and Bunn My Cafe for comparisons.
Fratello Yemen Coffee Pods for Senseo and other Coffee Pod Brewers
We've only had Yemen coffee pods from Creative Pods (which we believe is now no longer in business), and we thought the Yemen was delicious. Now you can get Fratello Yemen coffee pods at CoffeeWiz.com. We just exchanged emails with Jim Evans at CoffeeWhiz.com, and he assures us these are the best coffee pods he's ever used and the flavor is out of this world. We believe him, and can't wait to try the Yemen coffee pods from Fratello.
They come packed 18 coffee pods per box. The characteristics found in Yemen's are best described as having a rich, fresh and earthy flavor. When prepared properly, the lingering blueberry finish is what we're looking forward to trying. These coffee pods will work in your Senseo, Bunn My Cafe, Melitta One:One, simplehuman, Krups 1010 , GPOD, Home Cafe and other single serve coffee pod makers.
We really like Pumpkin Spice anything (see our Pumpkin madness article), and can't wait for a little taste of pie in our coffee.
About the Seasonal Blends:
Fair Trade Autumn Harvest Blend K Cups: Boasting a palette of light and dark roasted coffees nearly as colorful as the Autumn leaves, this special Fair Trade blend offers brisk and smoky flavors perfectly attuned to the season.
Pumpkin Spice K Cups: Fragranced with cinnamon and pumpkin pie spices, Pumpkin Spice coffee is a local favorite, especially lightened with cream and served with (or for) dessert.
We love foosball, and can only imagine with some single serve coffee, and over caffeinated people what could happen with the Offside Football Coffee Table. Sure at $7600 you'll have the most expensive coffee table in your state, but this is a fully-functional coffee table with a working mirrored foosball pitch underneath the glass table top. Handcrafted by Howard Bushell in Worcestershire, England, this solid oak and stainless steel coffee table is built to stand up to years of use.
We're tired of eyeballing our coffee and cream to get the same exact cup of single serve coffee. Aren't you? These new Pantone Coffee and Tea mugs will help stop the eyeballing and get you on track to create the exact remix of coffee and creamer every time. We can only hope that these mugs will work for our Pepsi and milk fetish as well.
Keurig B130 K-Cup Hotel Room Brewer and Single Serve Coffee Maker
We've yet to see one of the Keurig B130 Hotel Room Single Serve Coffee makers, but we like the look. Often we get those nasty micro-pots of coffee in our hotel room, and we think this Keurig in-room system would be much much better.
Does Espresso have more Caffeine than Single Serve Coffee?
We wonder this all the time and the answer is - yes and no. In a nut shell - an espresso cup has about as much caffeine as a cup of strong coffee. Because the serving sizes are very different - espresso being smaller and a cup of single serve coffee being a bit larger - you can often surpass the amount of caffeine in the larger cup of single serve coffee. However, if you are used to putting 2-3 shots of espresso into your latte, then you're really drinking about 3 cups of coffee.
Review: Presso Hand Pressed Espresso and Single Serve Coffee Maker
We've been pretty excited about the Presso single serve coffee and espresso maker from Presso.ca. Currently, the Presso is only available in Canada and other countries across the globe, but for a short time All-Clad made a version here in the US. We're not sure why they decided not to continue carrying the Presso, because with a few days of Presso use under our belts, we were able to make an amazing cup of single serve coffee and espresso.
Presso is very unique. Maybe not as unique as the Aeropress from Aerobie (come on - the inventor also invented the Aerobie frisbee), but the Presso sure looks the part. What's interesting is how impressed we are with pressing our own espresso or double-shot Americano using the Presso. It's really fun, and the results can be varied until you get to know your Presso.
Okay - for one last time - what is the Presso?
A Revolutionary way to make connoisseur espresso coffee at home. From the Design centre of Europe comes the innovation of the era. A multi award winning product that makes espresso as easy as one…two…three. PRESSO puts you in control.
And it truly is and we do feel in control - seriously we do!
Are you tired of trying to carry more than one cup of single serve coffee at a time to your guests who are demanding second and even third cups of coffee? The Link Coffee Mugs should fix this problem. These revolutionary mug links together, each one has a plus sign shaped connector, female on one side and male on the other, allowing them to connect up. The recommended maximum for linking up is six cups, but we think we could do eight or even possibly a dozen.
Melitta Filterpads - Make Your Own Coffee Pods Arrive for Review
Having recently reviewed the Perfect Pod Maker, we have been looking around for other ways to make our own coffee pods. The Melitta Padfilters allow you to fill your own coffee in a coffee pod sack, and then seal the coffee pod by tucking in the top part of the coffee pod into the larger coffee pod area. You can expect to get around 6-7grams of coffee into the coffee pod from our early testing. We'll be using both the Senseo and Bunn My Cafe for comparisons, and should have a full review very soon.
Presso Espresso and Single Serve Coffee Maker Video Preview
The Presso espresso and single serve coffee maker is for review. We recently found out the Presso was available in the US in an All-Clad version not too long ago which is very interesting. Also, our review version comes from the Canadian Presso distributor and retails for around $200 Canadian, but when the All-Clad version in the US was eliminated, you could get the Presso for much less.
Okay, enough history, this video should not be viewed for the quality of a shot of espresso, but for more how the Presso works. We're using a pretty fine grind of Sumatra coffee from Starbucks, and making a double shot americano. The results were quite good. But, when we do our full review, we've found many ways to crank out not-so-great, great, and even stunning espresso and single serve coffee with this machine.
The K Cup Sampler Pack from Green Mountain Coffee features an assortment of Signature Coffee favorites:
Breakfast Blend
Vermont Country Blend
French Roast
Dark Magic!
The box contains 6 K Cups in each flavor for you to enjoy. We think this gives the best variety you can get for a full range of the regular blends of K Cups. If you're looking for something a bit darker, try the Extra Bold K Cups that Green Mountain offers.

Gevalia Latte T-Discs for Tassimo Hot Beverage System
We've yet to review the Gevalia Latte T-Discs for Tassimo, but we've had our fair share of cappuccinos and lattes using other T-Disc combos. Given the other T-Discs we've reviewed, these two packs are priced right at just $17.98 for 16 total lattes you can make with your Tassimo Hot Beverage system. At just over $1 a latte, that's going to save you a bunch of money over your coffee house latte that will run you over $3 a drink. Get 'em while they're hot!

Europe: Café Invento Single Serve Coffee Pod Maker
Thanks to reader Matthew T., we've just found out about the new Café Invento Single Serve Coffee Pod Maker only available in Europe. You can make one or two delicious cups of coffee with a crema like layer, and the machine does this by using a Multiple podholders, for one or two coffee- or teapods. It has a large removable watertank, for approx. 10 cups of coffee.
The Café Invento Single Serve Coffee Pod Maker also features the Tasteselector, allowing you to select your personal coffee taste - be it light, medium, or darker cups of coffee. Best of all - it has an auto-shut off that powers the machine down after approx. 2 hours. Very green.
The really interesting thing about this new unique coffee pod maker - it features a unique material to make cleaning it up a breeze called Protact. Protact has a synthetic layer which is easy to clean and leaves no fingerprints. Developed by Corus, the synthetic layers have a smooth and silky finish. Inventum is the first in the world to use this material in a product or single serve coffee maker.
We're not sure why this article/powerpoint presentation (PDF) infuriates us so - but isn't the answer a bit obvious? You use wi-fi in a coffee shop to get away from the house and feel as if you're hanging with people because you have zero friends. Right? :-) We like wi-fi in coffee shops to surf a bit, get some writing done outside the house, and maybe - just maybe drink some good coffee? How about meeting people in a coffee shop for business instead of the office for a little urban feel? Whatever the reason, the staff at Single Serve Coffee likes to drink amazing coffee at the office and use our wi-fi there.
The nuts and bolts of the real article is debating whether or not - city wide wi-fi would kill business in coffee shops because people go there just for wi-fi and coffee. Come on - how about kill the fee at the coffee shop for wireless, and let us go there and use the free stuff and buy more coffee and scones? And to top it off - what about coffee shop wi-fi squatters...yeah...we're not big fans either.
He found that most coffee shop hotspot users had access to broadband Internet connections at home, so they weren't using it as their primary access point. Instead, they chose their surfing location to get out of the house and concentrate - albeit among a group of strangers.
Based on my own experience with San Jose's municipal WiFi system, I'd surely seek out a local coffee shop providing WiFi over the more accessible muni system due to the intrusive banner placed in the browser. Assuming it didn't have intrusive ads, or was paid and I had already paid, I'd have to find somewhere as accommodating as a coffee shop to do some surfing. That may be easier said than done.
A new coffee table from Bottega Montana has a certain old medieval feel to it. This coffee table named the "Calice", is made of sturdy, natural wood, and has a tempered glass top. The best feature? How about the middle where you can put magazines and other items in for safe keeping. Perhaps we could even hide an entire chilled bottle of wine? Who knows, but this table has it all.
Presso Espresso and Single Serve Coffee Maker Arrives for Review
Presso is in the house! That's right, we've received our Presso Espresso and Single Serve Coffee Maker for review here at Single Serve Coffee. Much like the Aeropress, the Presso espresso maker takes a little elbow grease to make the perfect shot or double americano for your single serve coffee drinking needs. The Presso also comes with a milk frother that to the staff here - looks like it will take some serious pumping to froth up some milk. We'll be testing the Presso over the next week and should have a full review very soon.
About Presso:
A Revolutionary way to make connoisseur espresso coffee at home. From the Design centre of Europe comes the innovation of the era. A multi award winning product that makes espresso as easy as one…two…three. PRESSO puts you in control.
What Single Serve Coffee Maker is Best for Making Cappuccinos?
We get questions all the time on what single serve coffee maker can make the best latte, cappuccino, or cup of coffee, and how much does it cost. This can be a tough question to answer, but we think we might be able to handle it.
The Question:
I have been reading your blog and I just have one question. What coffee maker would you recommend if you prefer single serve cappuccino and have a budget of around $100-150?
The Senseo seems to have the cappuccino, but when reading the reviews all the others seem to taste better. The Keurigs seem to be the best choice for coffee, but not so great for cappuccinos. I really want the froth and foam. The Tassimos and the Bruns are a bit pricey.
It's always nice to find another source of interesting and unique coffee pods for your Senseo, Bunn My Cafe, Melitta One:One, simplehuman, Krups 1010 , GPOD, Home Cafe and other single serve coffee pod makers. The best thing about coffee pod brewers is the open standard - anyone with some coffee, filter paper, and a coffee pod machine can make quality coffee pods and sell them online. e-CoffeePods sent us over samples of the Kienna line of coffee pods. These coffee pods weigh in at 11 grams, and are made in Alberta, Canada by Kienna Coffees.
We decided to focus on the Backpacker's Brew, as we feel the strong sense of the Canadian outdoors when we think of drinking such a coffee. The Backpacker's Brew is a blend of African, Indian, and Central American coffees. The taste? It's supposed to be dark and smooth. How did it fair?
We have only had Toddy coffee at Seattle's Best called the Naughty Toddy. It's nice to see the original Toddy can be purchased for your home instead of having to go to your local coffee shop. The Toddy system was created in 1964 by Todd Simpson. He developed and patented a cold brew system that, using regular Arabica coffee beans, creates a cup of steaming HOT coffee with 67% LESS ACID. It doesn't produce it steaming actually, because the end result is a coffee concentrate you mix with hot water or hot milk.
We like the single serving size (as you can use the Toddy coffee concentrate that you make for one cup at time), and we also like the fact you can store the leftover coffee in the fridge cold Toddy coffee later in the day. The part we don't like is making the coffee 12 hours in advance to enjoy the next day. You can read more about the entire Toddy brew process, but we would imagine using the Toddy System for iced coffee and not for hot coffee due to the prep.
Welcome to the dog days of summer, but who said that summer is a time not to have coffee or espresso. If it’s too hot, have an iced espresso, and cool yourself off with that great taste of espresso (pour espresso over ice, add sugar and milk to taste).
Just don’t forget to try an all Arabica Blend for the cold coffee; the “Classic” roasts are a bit harsher than most people will tolerate. Check out just a few of the things happening over at SingleServeEspresso.com
We don't think you can get any more single serve coffee than this tiny little french press that fits inside a clear coffee mug from Bodum. Sure you'll have to use ground coffee and perhaps a little elbow grease, but we expect the results will be worth it.
Review: BUONGIORNO Ricco Espresso Capsules for Lavazza Blue
We've been drinking the BUONGIORNO Ricco Espresso Espresso Capsules for the Lavazza Blue Espresso system over the past several weeks . This newly available coffee blend combines Brazilian and Central American Arabica coffees with varieties of East Asian Robusta. How good is this new Ricco Espresso for the Lavazza Blue?
