We've received the European version of the NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto to review here at Single Serve Coffee. We'll receive the US version of the NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto soon as well. Just looking at the pictures of the US version compared to the European version, it looks like the location of the power switch is in front and towards the middle of the water reservoir on the US Dolce Gusto - a nice improvement. We'll note the differences as we find out more, and for now - we're going to sit back and make a Caffé Lungo or two with our NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto, or perhaps even an iced Cappuccino. More Tassimo Bosch Event Pictures
We attended the Tassimo Bosch Hot Beverage System press event at the House Beautiful Kitchen pavilion two weeks ago in New York City, and YES - we've got even more pictures for you. These were sent from the staff photographer on-site, and we have to say - are much better pictures than the ones our Canon SD200 takes.
The water tank is a very cool blue with Mavea filter.
The new machine sort of looks like the older machine but a bit sleeker.
Two models of the new TASSIMO hot beverage system by Bosch will be available in the U.S. in September 2008. One, sold in specialty and department stores, will have an MSRP of $139.99; a second, available in select grocery and mass merchandise stores, will sell for $99.99.
Rynd Motion Coffee Table - Spin Your Single Serve Coffee
The Rynd Motion Coffee Table has two oval glass tops that swivel to multiple positions for ease of use, and ease of coffee spinning. A round, stable metal base with two stands support the twin glass pieces.
Why do we love this coffee table? We love the thought of spinning a hot cup of single serve coffee over to our couch mate, and then kicking back to watch a little TV.
BiDose Capsules for Lavazza Blue - Double Your Espresso
Café-Razzi just introduced a true double shot espresso capsule. With an unprecedented 11.5 grams of the finest espresso blend, this capsule will energize the most discriminating espresso or double Americano single serve coffee drinker. The BiDose capsule is basically the same blend as the Intenso capsule originally launched in 2005 but with 40% more coffee. It's especially popular with restaurants as they'll use it as a true double shot or split it as two single shots (with an accessory fitting for their LavazzaBlue system).
Our Canadian correspondent S.H. has a another insightful review of Canadian T-Discs for Tassimo...
Nabob uses a combination of their espresso T-Disc (which I recently reviewed) and the usual shelf-stable latte milk creamer T-Disc which is common among most latte varieties such as Maxwell House Latte & Gevalia Latte.
You first make a shot of espresso...
The latte milk has a somewhat buttery taste and some may even find it tastes like 2% evaporated milk. Some people hate the taste and claim it's "too chemical" while others enjoy it so much they purchase the discs as stand-alones and use them with other coffee T-Discs or by themselves as a form of warm milk. Personally, I don't dislike the taste but I wish Kraft could improve it somehow. I have yet to sample the European creamer discs which come with the Jacobs or Kenco brands so I'm not sure if those would taste any better or worse.
We attended the Tassimo Bosch Hot Beverage System press event at the House Beautiful Kitchen pavilion last week in New York City, and we got some new facts on this new single serve coffee and hot beverage system. Over the past few days, we've been able to consolidate all of our findings into a list of new facts and features.
New Tassimo Bosch Facts and Features:
All Tassimo T Discs from the earlier "Braun Tassimo" era will be compatible
The water filtration is by Mavea. The filters appear very Brita-like.
The system does features a "steam" purge at the end instead of the messy water cycle
The Cup stand is much improved over the earlier model
The Tassimo Bosch can fit larger travel mugs
It's truly ready to brew - the brew cycle is very quiet and much faster
The water tank is easier to carry
The power cord is very thin and because it's so small it makes it seem like the Tassimo could be "wirelessly" powered
The cleaning disc is stored in the back between the water reservoir and the main machine
There's an overall reduction in power needed - as the water is on demand making the machine much more eco-friendly
Also there's going to be 2 new coffees from Starbucks coming at around the time of launch. And Starbucks and the Tassimo team are also working on other "Starbucks coffee related drinks" that hopefully will emerge sooner than later. Can you say mocha mint latte? We hope the team and Starbucks cook up some of the more fun drinks Starbucks has at their stores.
What are our thoughts and impressions? Did we like this new Tassimo designed by Bosch?
Krups Nescafe Dolce Gusto Single Serve Coffee Maker Coming to US
That's right - the Krups Dolce Gusto single serve coffee maker is coming to the US. Raising the bar for the single-cup coffee category, NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto™ launches Sept. 22, 2008 exclusively at Sur La Table and becomes available Nov. 1, 2008 at select additional retailers. The NESCAFÉ® Dolce Gusto™ system features eight, full-flavor choices made from strictly 100% high quality Arabica beans: Café Mocha; Caffè Lungo (dark roast, mild and decaf); Cappuccino; Espresso; Iced Cappuccino; and Latte Macchiato. You can check out our previous coverage here, and a special thanks goes out to Steve S. for sending this in.
The Feng Shui Rectangular Coffee Table works in harmony with a variety of decors, and coffee drinking habits. Beautifully balanced proportions, uncomplicated styling, and neutral lines lend a sense of simplicity to the understated to this coffee table. We're really excited to be able to buy "Feng Shui" in a coffee table, thus fixing our rather un-Feng Shui living room with one simply elegant purchase.

New TASSIMO Brewer by Bosch Showcased at Exclusive House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year Event
We'll be attending the House Beautiful kitchen event today in New York, and will be sending back exclusive pictures, video, and information on the new Tassimo brewer by Bosch. We'll also be checking out many of the kitchen innovations and gadgets as well, and that coverage will be over at KitchenContraptions.com. We hope to get a few lattes, espresso shots, and cups of single serve coffee to really see how the new Tassimo Bosch brewer performs.
For three days beginning July 15-17, New York's Rockefeller Center will be home to a new benchmark for kitchen design. The new TASSIMO brewer by Bosch will be the only single-serve brewer showcased along with other groundbreaking kitchen appliances. "We're delighted to be included alongside other leaders in the kitchenware industry," said Steve Fox, Director of Consumer Products for Bosch home appliances. Jerry Densk, Kraft US TASSIMO Marketing Director agrees. "The inclusion of the new TASSIMO brewer by Bosch in the 'Kitchen of the Year' event acknowledges our shared dedication to providing consumers with superior quality, innovation and sophisticated product development," says Jerry. Presented by House Beautiful, Tishman Speyer and Designer Christopher Peacock, "Kitchen of the Year" is designed to celebrate breakthrough products and new ideas, big and small, to make kitchens more personal, comfortable and technologically advanced.
Single Serve Coffee Drinkers Have Slightly Lower Death Rates
A new study has good news for single serve coffee drinkers: Regular coffee drinking (up to 6 cups per day) is not associated with increased deaths in either men or women.
"Coffee consumption was not associated with a higher risk of mortality in middle-aged men and women. The possibility of a modest benefit of coffee consumption on heart disease, cancer, and other causes of death needs to be further investigated."
Now where's that cup of Dark Magic extra-bold and my Nespresso shot chaser? Let the coffee drinking begin!
Emeril's Big Easy Bold K-cups - New Orleans In Your Coffee Cup
Looking for a taste of New Orleans in your single serve coffee cup? Emeril's Big Easy Bold K-Cups are packed with a little extra coffee to give them a big, bold rich taste. Do we like them? Yes we do. We gave these K-Cups a score of 86 recently, and are still drinking a cup or two many months later. This coffee is truly a dark coffee, so expect only medium to dark roast coffee drinkers to really enjoy it's depths.
Looking to create a runway for your single serve coffee drinking habits? The Paper Airplane Coffee table is not made of paper, but it does indeed hold your coffee and morning paper. Comes in white only, but we would have preferred yellow ruled.
Starbucks Africa Kitamu T-Discs for Tassimo - So Good
We still highly recommend getting some Starbucks Africa Kitamu T Discs for your Tassimo Hot Beverage system. We've been drinking another batch after looking back on our earlier review. There's just something nearly perfect about making a cup of Starbucks coffee at literally 1/3 the price you would pay at the store. These T Discs will work in your TA1400 and TA1200 hot beverage systems, and the upcoming Bosch Tassimo Hot Beverage system.
It's been awhile since we've featured tea pods here at Single Serve Coffee. We aren't the biggest tea drinkers, but one tea we enjoy in the evenings is mint tea. Mint tea both relaxes the spirit, and provides a fresh taste from your Senseo single serve coffee and now tea maker. These are recommended for use in the Senseo HD7820 Deluxe Single-Serve Gourmet Coffeemaker or the Senseo HD7832 Supreme Single-Serve Gourmet Coffeemaker, because these two models of the Senseo come with a special tea filter holder.
Roast Your Own Single Serve Coffee with a Breadmaker
We've been following the various efforts of our Single Serve Coffee members home coffee roasting attempts, and this one is really interesting. It involves a bread machine, heating gun, fan, metal colander, oven mitt, and of course green Kenya AA coffee beans.
I started by carefully measuring out 1/2 lb of the beans. i thought being my first try i should only go for 1/2lb in case i really mess up. After trying a 'dry run' in the bread machine i determined it actually stirs the beans better with a larger amount, so i put the whole lb of beans in a bowl at the ready.
We'll let you read the rest by clicking the link below, but to sum it up - the results are good, and the satisfaction of roasting some coffee of your own (or his own in this case) is well worth the effort.
Brewmatic Coffee Maker - Installs Under Your Kitchen Cabinets
The Brewmatic isn't really a single serve coffee maker, but it does indeed have some of the trappings of what it takes to be one - including brewing directly into a travel mug. We love the built in aspect - a total integration into the kitchen environment, and we also love the fact it can dispense hot water along with making a pot of coffee. The big difference is the aesthetic here, as we really like the design and it takes up just the right amount of space.
Some key features include:
Programmable digital clock/timer with auto on function - set at night and wake up to the invigorating smell of fresh brewed coffee.
Three adjustable brew volume options including Full Brew, Half Brew and Quarter Brew. Ideal for commuters and single cup drinkers, brew directly into a travel mug for on-the-go convenience.
An instant source of hot water for teas, hot chocolate, cereals and soups
Innovative under the cabinet installation saves counter space
Squirt-gun Coffee Table - Battle for Coffee Island
The Squirt Gun Coffee table comes with an entire set of squirt guns, so if someone's looking to spill your coffee - you'll be right there squirting. We're not sure how much weight this $350 table can take, so we'd use it for shelter instead of leaping on top with guns a blaring.
What's the Best Nespresso Capsule? Single Serve Espresso Knows
We get this question all the time as well here at Single Serve Coffee, but leave it to Scott over at Single Serve Espresso to give an amazing answer. We too prefer the richer Ristrettos, but also like the light Cosi from time to time. From Scott:
I get this question all the time, which capsule is best, and what should I be drinking? I think the best thing that Nespresso does is to include the full assortment with each machine so you get to try them and see what types of flavors are out there and which capsules you'll end up loving with your machine. The only thing better would be to include two of each! (I turned my sample holder into my capsule holder inside the cabinet door)
Drink Selector Mug Ensures Perfect Single Serve Coffee in Every Cup
The mug features three different rotating bands that will unveil your drink preferences to you, your spouse, or whoever is seeing or refilling said coffee cup. The top band determines whether coffee or tea is your preference, and we know it's coffee - come on! The middle band determines the the milk preference, and the bottom band determines the sugar preference. The Drink Selector Mug is available for $24, and should ensure you don't get a bad refill or first fill of single serve coffee every morning. It might even be a good way to remind those of us who wake up hard what we should put in our coffee.
Coffee Pod and K Cup Trash Can - Clean Up Your Single Serve Coffee Mess
Standing just over 7 inches tall, this mini trash can works great on a desktop or kitchen countertop for those everyday smaller items such as wet coffee pods or K Cups. We use ours to store up our K Cups or coffee pods, what we either compost, or sprinkle into the house plants. The trash can offers a 2/5-gallon capacity, and its swing-open lid helps keep contents hidden and odors contained. The unit's lined interior means there's no need to add a plastic bag, just wipe clean as needed.
