We often want our coffee table to do just about everything food related because we eat, drink, and sometimes sleep near it. The Unified Dining Table designed by Min Hoo Park features a tray with built-in plates, cups, a vase, and a candelabra so you can have a little dinner, then put your coffee on the flat coffee table top by flipping over the dining area.
When you purchase the Cafe Halo coffee pods, part of the proceeds go to humanitarian causes. The coffee pods come in 6 packs (that's all we could find so far) in 16-count bags, and flavors include Sumatran, Ethical Addition, Columbian, and others.

Nespresso Boutique Montreal Sneak Peak Photos
Reader N. Chong has sent us some exclusive photos of the Nespresso Boutique Montreal before it opens. Things at the boutique are looking nearly finished with the opening sometime in early March. We don't know that much about the specifics, but we do know the boutique is 3 floors high, and filled with Nespresso goodness.
From N. Chong:
I just saw your coverage of the Nespresso Boutique opening in Boston and thought this may be interesting to you. I live in Montreal and it seems we will also soon have our own Nespresso Boutique on Crescent Street. I was passing by the other day and snapped some shots through the window of the boutique that is not yet opened.

Review: Nabob Breakfast Blend 12oz T-Discs for Tassimo
Nabob's latest Tassimo option is their new 12oz Breakfast Blend T-Discs which, according to the packaging, contains more than 30% Rainforest Alliance Certified content... something the company has been trying to achieve with all its discs recently, so hats off to them in that aspect. Any 16oz travel mug or coffee cup/glass should be enough to hold all 12 ounces (we chose a Bodum 16oz Pavina series double-wall glass) and needless to say, we were happy that the Bosch Tassimo didn't leak a small pond of water on the cup stand during the brew cycle (Braun users, we feel your pangs of annoyance as you'll surely be reaching for the paper towels).
Unlike the small variety of "morning blend" 12oz T-discs available on the American market, Canada had yet to see any 12oz discs until now and since Nabob is quickly becoming a top choice amongst coffee drinkers North of the border, we suppose it was only fitting that Nabob be the brand which was chosen to introduce this new size format (although we keep hoping to see a Dunkin Donuts or Tim Hortons disc on the horizon).
We're always on the look out for clear mugs, and this Glass Mug from DWR fits the bill. Built for everyday use, the Glass Mug is a versatile vessel for single serve coffees of all types (even decaf). Microwave and dishwasher safe, this borosilicate glass mug is tough, and only costs $15.

You'll soon be able to choose from not only Green Mountain offerings, but also Caribou Coffee K-Cups as a Cafe Express club member as well. When does it happen? Cafe Escape Dark and Milk Chocolate Hot Cocoa K-Cups for Keurig
It's a pretty exciting week of news for any Keurig owner out there because we have news that TWOnew hot cocoa K-Cup flavors are available: Dark Chocolate K-Cups and Milk Chocolate K-Cups.
These are new and different from the regular Hot Cocoa K-Cups from Green Mountain as these K-Cups are a bit more indulgent. Both flavors are available at Green Mountain's web site, and soon Keurig.com exclusively for the next couple of months, after that they'll roll out to the rest of the larger online etailers that sell K-Cups.

Breville Keurig Single Cup Brewer - Shiny Chrome K-Cup Goodness
It's been awhile since we featured the Breville Keurig Single Cup Brewer, and we have to say over the past year+ (read our full review here) it's been in the Single Serve Coffee test kitchen everyday, and we've loved it. It's compatible with all K-Cups, and it features the integrated storage of the reusable My K-Cup filter that allows you to use your own coffee with the brewer. One of the things we really like is the programmable on/off timer. We start ours at 6:30am and shut the brewer off at 11am - the perfect time for several round trips to the Breville for piping hot cups of single serve coffee goodness. It's also the only Keurig brewer to feature integrated walter filtration which makes your coffee taste better.
It's President's Day here in the US, and we thought we'd celebrate by finding something Presidential like this coffee mug with presidential slogans. Two centuries of Presidential campaign slogans adorn this mug, including "Tippecanoe and Tyler Too," "All the Way with Adlai," I Like Ike," "Give 'Em Hell, Harry!," and "Clinton: A Cure for the Blues.", and it holds 12 ounces of your favorite single serve coffee.
Ray Charles art done in Nespresso Capsules by Ricardo Bellino.
Last night we had the pleasure of attending the opening of the Nespresso Boutique in Boston. Both Scott from Single Serve Espresso and the staff of Single Serve Coffee were on hand, and the event was amazing. Not only was there coffee to be had, but Charice was on hand to sing 3 songs and entertain the coffee masses.
There was also a series of artist "paintings" done created with Nespresso Capsules. Pictures of Princess Diana, Ghandi, Barack Obama, and others were done in this style. Click on through for more pictures and info, along with a video of Charice performing. We also got word of a new line of Nespresso machines making their debut soon called Nespresso CitiZ.

Tully's Coffee Warns It Could Go Out of Business without Green Mountain Sale
Yikes. We sure do hope the Green Mountain deal to buy Tully's Coffee goes through, or we could be without our favorite french roast K-Cups soon. According to the Seattle Times Tully's is in dire financial need of this sale because of recurring losses.
Tully's Coffee could go out of business if shareholders do not approve the sale of its wholesale business to Green Mountain Coffee Roasters of Vermont, the Seattle-based coffee chain said in a securities filing Friday.
In a report the day after Tully's announced plans in September to sell the business for $40.3 million to Green Mountain, "our auditors stated that our recurring losses and accumulated deficit raised substantial doubts about our ability to continue as a going concern."
USDA Certified Organic Coffee Pods from Aloha Island Coffee
Aloha Island has something that no other coffee company has - Certified Organic Coffee Pods. That's right, and their line is called USDA Certified Organic Paradise Blend Coffee Pods. These tropical coffees have high standards, and cool names including one of the following 4 flavor profiles:
Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz told investors they could expect some exciting new "breakfast pairings" at "attractive" prices, which in a nutshell sounds like a breakfast value meal. Starbucks has a long way to climb back to the grandeur of a few years ago both financially, and with respect to how people feel about parting ways with a couple of hard earned bucks, so it's surprising their taking the McDonald's route - almost dumbing down their offerings. Well - maybe they are rounding out their options, and making sure their customers don't leave them for McDonald's across the street.
We're not sure this is the best idea or the worst idea. Would you visit Starbucks for breakfast? Would you perhaps skip the coffee, and bring your travel mug full of single serve coffee for a better priced breakfast sandwich? We often only find ourselves going to Starbucks or the like when we travel for some decent coffee.
Sound off and tell us if you'll be attending a Starbucks soon for a taste of value.
Starbucks, better known for amusingly complicated premium coffee offerings, took a cue from fast-food chains and announced a plan Monday to sell pairings of coffee and breakfast for $3.95, citing the economic downturn. Will that be a breakfast sandwich or a roll with your coffee? Starbucks says it's offering breakfast pairings. With the $3.95 breakfast offer, customers will be able to get a 12-ounce coffee with a breakfast sandwich or roll or a 12-ounce latte with either oatmeal or a coffee cake.
The boulder mug is not made of stone, but it is made of hard ceramic goodness. You can drink coffee primal style each morning, and if someone bothers you bonk them over the head with the boulder mug. We recommend for the full experience making a large fire, getting a purple dinosaur, and a wife named Wilma.
We all know this question comes up or a reaction to having coffee from a certain machine or cafe - how hot do you like your coffee? How hot is it? Brew temperature is one thing, but having the right temperature in the cup is another. There's also a variety of factors - do you have milk in your coffee? Do you like it with a lot of milk or none? Do you put it in a travel mug or just sip from a regular cup? Our preference is for it to start piping hot and stay hot in our Bodum Verona coffee mug for at least 5 minutes, and then we enjoy it a bit more on the medium hot side.
What's your preference? How hot do you like your coffee?
Sound off in the comments and let us know your thoughts on this controversial topic.
The Senseo HD7832 Supreme Single-Serve Gourmet Coffeemaker is still one of our favorite designs in the Senseo line of single serve coffee makers. We really love the chrome/silver accents, along with the LCD display showing you how much coffee you're going to get in your cup. The updates overall to the older 7810/65 include being able to fit a travel mug, larger reservoir, and a better drip tray (read our full review here). We think you can't go wrong if you're interested in getting into a single serve coffee maker, and you want to go the coffee pod route.

A quick view of the company's website reveals that Kenco was originally known as the Kenya Coffee Company which got its start in 1921 when they setup a shop in Mayfair (a district in the West end of London). They started selling roast & ground coffee locally from the shop although most of their sales were via mail orders through advertisements in magazines such as Tatler, Country Life and The Times. They would later be bought after the Second World War and diversified into several coffee shops across the UK by Gardiner Merchant, a food merchant company next door to the original shop. The name of the company was later changed to Kenco in 1962 when they stopped acquiring most of their beans from Kenya. The company would go on to change hands many times throughout the coming decades having such owners as Cadbury, Premier Foods and General Mills.
Before we start, it should be noted that this variety of T-Disc comes in 2 different types of packaging. Some of the older Braun-style packages still have "Classic Blend" listed as the flavor while newer versions (as well as the current Bosch-style packages) now list "Medium Roast". This had always been a bit confusing since the older packages still listed "Medium Roast" on the foil of each disc and left us wondering if we were getting 2 different kinds of coffees. Well, you can rest assured you're getting the SAME coffee out of either package (despite Kraft still listing "Classic Blend" on their Tassimo site).
January 2009 Monthly Round-Up for Single Serve Coffee
Better late than never, we've got your Single Serve Coffee Monthly Round-up for January 2009. We had a pretty amazing month reviewing the Cafe Invento Single Serve Coffee Pod Brewer, and we reviewed lots of k-cups and other items. Here's to an amazing February, where will be doing some reviews of new Organic Coffee Pods from Aloha Island Coffee. Stay tuned!
Are Ceramic Coffee Cups Greener Than Disposable Coffee Cups?
We often look at the arguments for greener options in our lives, and wonder - just because it's greener how much energy did it take to produce this green product? How long do we have to use this greener option to make it truly green? It is a question that Single Serve Coffee has been looking at for years, and we've finally found said answer. A Dutch study that demonstrated that we have to drink a lot of coffee out of our ceramic cup to beat out the paper or polystyrene one. Now a new study from the University of Victoria confirms this feeling that greener isn't always greener (or at least not right away).
According to Adharanand Finn in the Guardian, one needs to use the ceramic cup over 1,000 times to outdo the polystyrene cup, and even more compared to paper. It may not sound very plausible - but on closer inspection the arguments seem to add up. Firstly, ceramic cups use more energy in their production. Second, there is all the hot water and washing-up liquid used when you wash up your mug. Third there's the environmental consequences of distributing ceramic mugs - because they are bigger and heavier than polystyrene cups, which can be tightly stacked, you are looking at more ship and lorry journeys, using more fuel. And, finally, polystyrene cups can be more easily recycled. So hang on to your ceramic or stainless steel mug and in three or four years you will have made a difference.
