You can now get the Aerolatte Milk Frother in a convenient travel case. This makes the Aerolatte perfect for work, and this special carry case is perfect for your boat, RV, and camping trip. Working directly in the mug or glass, the Aerolatte milk frother takes just 20 seconds to turn a small amount of hot or cold milk into the perfect froth for cappuccinos, caffe lattes, mochas and specialty coffees as well as hot chocolates, malts and milk shakes.
We really like this milk frother, and often use it over heating up our FrancisFrancis!, or even using our Nespresso milk frother. It also gives you more control over how much froth and how long. It also makes a perfect gift.
McDonald's Says McCafe Launch Off to Good Start - We Think Save Your Money
McDonald's said on Wednesday the McCafe coffee roll-out is off to a good start and that data on its market share impact should be available in about six months. McDonald's has said it expects the addition of beverages ranging from coffee and cappuccino to water and sports drinks to eventually add $1 billion to annual sales.
Whatever the success it has - we say - save your money. We visited a McCafe enabled McDonald's yesterday, and both the latte and cappuccino are not worth the money. It's a shame really, we liked it when they upgraded their base coffee offerings to Green Mountain, and then onto the current generic "better coffee", but even that isn't worth it. At over $1.19 to upwards of $3+ bucks for some drinks, you could purchase 3-6 single serve coffee K-Cups, T-Discs, or coffee pods.
We're also not sure about mixing our burger eating (which we do at Five Guys Burgers), with our coffee drinking. McDonald's though is an often presence on long car rides and trips, so being able to get some decent coffee on the road makes sense - provided there isn't a Starbucks or Lavazza boutique to get our beverage of choice from.
Whatever you decide - we're deciding to save our money and get more single serve coffee choices for our one cup coffee maker. What do you think? Will you be visiting a McCafe soon?

Fair Trade Summer Safari and The Perfect Peach K-Cups
Green Mountain has announced their Summer 2009 set of K-Cups - The Perfect Peach and Summer Safari. Both of these K-Cups use Fair Trade coffees, and we're pretty excited about a cup of iced peach coffee using our Platinum B70 Keurig Brewer.
We've had several readers write in on this discount over at Amazon. You can get 24 Starbucks House Blend T-Discs for your Tassimo system at just $20.74. This put the cost per cup at roughly ~$.86 - still half the price of getting the same cup of coffee at your local Starbucks. We really like the House Blend (you can read our review here), and think this medium bolder blend fits most coffee drinking profiles.
This DIY project is made of LED lights, and features a spectrum of colors to drink your coffee to. The table even features rotating through a dizzying amount of colors. Full instructions can be found at Unplugged so you can build your own.
Bunn-O-Matic has recalled the pod drawers on the My Cafe line of Single Cup Tea/Coffeemakers. The pod drawer of the pod brewer can open unexpectedly during a brew cycle, posing a burn hazard to consumers. Bunn-O-Matic has received 10 reports of the drawer opening unexpectedly, including one report of minor burns.
This recall involves Bunn Single Pod Brewers. Models included in the recall are MCP (My Café Pourover) and MCA (My Café Automatic). The pod brewers have a black body with stainless backsplash and measure 12 inches high by 8 inches wide. “Bunn®” is printed on the front and lights up when the pod brewer is on.
Consumers should stop using the recalled coffeemakers immediately and contact the firm to obtain two replacement pod drawers.
You can contact Bunn-O-Matic at (800) 741-3405 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s Web site at www.bunn.com.
Kamil Kurka's Single Serve Coffee Maker - Futuristic Design Meets One Cup Coffee
This coffee maker by Kamil Kurka looks like it just beamed off the deck of the Enterprise, and we think we want one. Just a concept for now, this single serve coffee maker of the future features adjustable heat and quantity of coffee for your coffee mug. The movable base tray allows you to remove the coffee mug from the machine safely. We're not sure if the machine uses ground coffee, coffee pods, or coffee capsules, but whatever the method we love the look and design of this machine, and we can't wait for it to hit the shelves someday soon.
You can now make rich dark hot chocolate Mocha beverages with your Dolce Gusto singe serve coffee maker. Packed in a 16 count box, you get 8 milk and 8 hot chocolate capsules to make your mochas from. The Hot Chocolate capsule actually has a bit of coffee packed in, and the Mocha Dolce Gusto capsules will work in any Dolce Gusto single serve coffee maker.
Coffee Studies Showcase the Health Benefits of the Drink
That's right - coffee is good for you, but remember coffee is not caffeine, and caffeine is part of coffee. Oh so confusing, but this really amazing article points out the health benefits of coffee from reducing risk for Type 2 diabetes, cirrhosis, high blood pressure, and other medical issues. One thing to note - the article recommends drinking filtered coffee, and not coffee made in a french press method. Why? Filtered coffee, which most Americans drink, is much better because the paper filters catch a substance called cafestol, which boosts "bad" cholesterol (LDL).
...Twenty studies worldwide show that coffee, both regular and decaf, lowers the risk for Type 2 diabetes, in some studies by as much as 50 percent. Researchers say that is probably because chlorogenic acid, one of the many ingredients in coffee, slows uptake of glucose (sugar) from the intestines. (Excess sugar in the blood is a hallmark of diabetes.) Chlorogenic acid may also stimulate GLP-1, a chemical that boosts insulin, the hormone that escorts sugar from the blood into cells. Yet another ingredient, trigonelline, a precursor to vitamin B-3, may also help slow glucose absorption.
Nespresso Unveils Four New Grand Crus Nespresso Capsules
Yes - we said four and there are six pictured. Three are from
the pure origin, and the other three are the entire lungo line.
Nespresso has announced three new Pure Origin Nespresso capsules, and one new Fortissio Lungo. These new coffee capsules from Nespresso will offer Nespresso owners more variety, and will extend the current line of Nespresso Grand Crus instead of just being a seasonal offering.
The Pure Origin Nespresso capsules are from 3 unique countries:
Rosabaya de Colombia - full body with a delicate acidity
Dulsao do Brasil - bright and sunny
Indriya from India - peppery with hints of spices like nutmeg and others
The Fortissio Lungo which extends the lungo line is a more intense lungo coffee created from Central and South American Arabicas.
It's really nice to see after many years Nespresso extend their line of Nespresso offerings, and to add the Pure Origin coffees. We've tried each one, and they are indeed different and help push the boundaries of what Nespresso has been offering.
It's Spring and time for some K-Cup revival. The Fair Trade Spring Revival Blend K-Cups are back, and with an amazing story. The origins of the Spring Revival Blend is the Unión Regional de Pequeños Productores de Café, in Huatusco, Mexico. The cooperative was formed in 1992 by a group of small-scale family farmers who decided to take responsibility for lifting their community out of the extreme poverty they faced. Their success has been remarkable, and today the coop boasts more than 1,908 small farmers among its members, including 600 women.
Use Science and Design to Make the Perfect Cup of Single Serve Coffee
We're pretty sure we've never seen a roaster, grinder, and single serve coffee maker all in this format before. One of the things that makes this such an amazing single serve coffee maker is the fact the entire process is done using glass beakers, thus allowing you to view the entire coffee making session. We love it, and think you'll truly get the idea by watching the video below.
Take 50 green beans. Roast for 7 minutes for a medium roast, 9 minutes for a dark roast. Cool beans. Whilst grinding the cooled beans heat the water until air bubbles begin to pop. Place ground beans into water. Stir and brew for 4 minutes. Then pour and enjoy a cup of fresh perfect coffee.
We love translucent LED looking stuff, and this mug feature that appear when you hold the mug against the light. This mug is entirely handmade, and the thickness of the wall is thinner where the cloud outline is - creating clouds inside and outside the coffee mug.
Kalorik Coffee Maker - 4 Cup Coffee Maker with Built-In Grinder
Sure it uses actual coffee beans to grind, and brew up to 4 cups of coffee at time, but you can still make a single cup of coffee with the Kalorik Magic Bean Personal Burr Grind & Brew Coffee Maker. A special patented burr grinder automatically grinds the beans before brewing to ensure the grounds are as fresh as possible. A grind control dial lets you program the amount of coffee to grind, can make from 1 to 4 individual cups, while a strength selector offers a choice from strong to mild coffee flavor. Once brewing is complete, the fresh coffee is delivered into a 9 oz stainless steel cup.
The brewing process can also be interrupted with the so that you can taste the cup before brewing is finished. This specialty coffee maker also features permanent stainless steel filter, coffee ready signal, safety photo censors that will stop brewing process if detected that the jug or the filter holder are not well positioned, removable grinder for easy cleaning, and includes a travel cup base attachment to fit into you car cup holder, when you need it on the go.
We're going to see if we can track one of these down. It looks like instead of spending over $1500 for a super automatic - this brewed coffee slim down of a machine at $199 could be an interesting alternative.
Review: Keurig Water Filter Kit - Filter Water for Keurig Single-Cup K-Cup Brewers
Following up on our earlier article - Better Water = Better Single Serve Coffee, we wanted to let Keurig owners in on how they can make their water better. Did you know you can add a charcoal water filter to just about any Keurig single serve coffee maker K-Cup brewing system? We didn't until last month, when we saw you could order a filter pack and filter holder for any Keurig home model made after August 2007.
We installed the water filter in our Keurig Platinum B70 in less than 2 minutes.
So how does it work? Well - for us it works great. We have town water that always has a tinge of treated taste to it, and after using the charcoal filter the coffee taste is much better. Now you combine this filter with filtered water - and bam - it's a double treat. The coffee is even crisper with more flavor. Whatever your situation is, it's probably a good idea to run a filter in your Keurig to reduce build up and the need to de-scale.
The kit comes with 1 water filter adapter and 2 filter cartridges, and is compatible with Keurig Single-Cup Brewers purchased after August 2007. Each filter lasts approx. 2 months, so you're going to need to eventually get Keurig Water Filter Cartridge Refills. Note that filter lifespan will vary depending on the hardness of your water, and we found ours lasted about 3 months instead of the two.
Having had the pleasure of creating my own coffee drinks over the years, it's nice to see a collection of over 50 drink recipes featuring everyone's favorite morning beverage - coffee. Recipe contributors include cutting-edge coffee purveyors and a highly competitive cadre of coffeehouse baristas.
Do you have coffee drinks that you make with your single serve coffee maker? Sound off in the comments and let us know. One of our current favorites is to take the Nescafe Dolce Gusto and froth up some milk, then pour in some chocolate syrup, and then combine this with a gingerbread confit shot of Nespresso. Yum! We call it the Chocolate Coffee Confit.
Tully's K-Cup Coffees for Keurig at Green Mountain Coffee
It's official, and a pretty quick addition after the recent acquisition of Tully's Coffee by Green Mountain Coffee. Tully's Coffee K-Cups can be purchased at Green Mountain Coffee's web site, and if you're an existing Cafe Express Member, you can also add these to your K-Cup orders each month from Green Mountain Coffee. Given our obsession with the French Roast Tully's K-Cups, we'll just have to pick some up this week, and perhaps the Kona Blend as well.
Here's a travel mug with something a little different - a digital photo frame is fastened to the side allowing you to share your photos with your co-workers and friends, and anyone else within sipping distance. Made of impact-resistant plastic and insulated with 18/8 stainless steel. 1Mb of memory lets you save 45 photos and carry them anywhere you go.
Review: Green Mountain Fair Trade Golden French Toast K-Cups for Keurig
This past Winter yielded the seasonal Fair Trade Golden French Toast K-Cup from Green Mountain and after several hectic weeks around the single serve coffee office, we finally got a chance to give this flavor a try. Green Mountain describes this K-Cup as having the flavors of “warm, buttered French Toast drizzled with sweet maple syrup”. After reading that, we couldn’t wait any longer to do a review.
We chose the 5.25oz brew size to extract the full flavors and were greeted with the pleasant scents of maple with an added hint of cinnamon lying underneath. First impressions when tasting this coffee are surprisingly enough quite the opposite of its scent… you taste the cinnamon first, then you taste the maple afterwards. The flavoring is right up there with the real thing and we’re sure this K-Cup would be great paired with it.
