Vending Solution for Single-Cup Brewing - K-Cup Vending Machine and Brewer
There's a new giant single serve coffee maker in town that uses K-Cups - a giant Keurig Vending Machine. The Specialty Coffee Business Unit of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. (NASDAQ: GMCR), is offering a new full-line vending machine designed for single-cup brewing in high-traffic commercial and manufacturing environments.
The Green Mountain Coffee branded vending machine dispenses K-Cup portion packs and is used in conjunction with a Keurig Single-Cup Brewer. The Green Mountain Coffee vending unit holds more than 1,000 K-Cup portion packs. Operators can choose to offer up to 12 product selections from more than 60 coffees, teas, and hot cocoa in K-Cups from GMCR’s family of brands, including Green Mountain Coffee, Tully’s Coffee, Newman’s Own® Organics Coffee, Caribou Coffee®, Celestial Seasonings Teas, and Café Escapes. The machines are paired with Keurig’s proprietary brewing system, which delivers the proper amount, temperature and pressure of water to ensure a perfect cup of coffee, tea or hot cocoa, in under one minute.
We want one of these for the Single Serve Coffee headquarters - we're not sure where will put it, but we think we can work it out.

NexPod Review at Single Serve Espresso - Make Your Own Nespresso Capsules
Our sister site SingleServeEspresso.com has a review of the NexPod refillable capsules for Nespresso. NexPod is a new pod system for the Nespresso line of makers that allows you to use your own capsules with your favorite espresso coffee. You might even be able to save a little money over the ~$0.55 cost per Nespresso capsule; SSE paid $23 on eBay for their NexPod shipped from Switzerland. That puts it at about $0.28 each empty capsule. Adding up the cost of about 4-5g of coffee per capsule, that adds about a dime to the cost of each unit. These can save about $15 - $20 per box of 80 units; not bad.
Their verdict? The NexPod is a little hard to use and maybe not worth the time and effort, but it does allow you to use your own coffee. Click on through for the full review.
This robot uses about 20 digital servos in the body and a ton of robot magic to make a perfect cup of coffee. We can only wish our robot masters in the future make such an amazing cup of coffee, and don't make us serve them.
Review: Fair Trade The Perfect Peach K-Cups for Keurig
There's something truly amazing about a coffee that has a peachy flavor, and a warm coffee finish. Sure we were skeptical at first when we thought about drinking the Fair Trade The Perfect Peach K-Cups coffee from Green Mountain, but after our second and third cup the skepticism turned into delight. This is a very interesting, and complex flavored coffee, and refreshing in both hot and iced coffee formats.
To enjoy your Handpresso on the go, you're going to need this carry case/outdoor set. This stylish bag contains the portable and manual espresso machine called Handpresso WILD, and comes with unbreakable cups and a 300 ML thermo insulated flask. We're not sure if the small napkins are necessary, but who wants an espresso mustache on a long hike.
The set features:
1 Handpresso Wild
4 unbreakable cups,
300ml thermo-insulated flask in stainless steel (to have hot water always close to hand),
Tassimo Pro Office Coffee Brewer - Perfect for Your Small Business
Tassimo and Bosch are coming out with a pro line of single serve coffee makers aimed at the small office coffee market called Tassimo Pro. We don't have many details, but we do know the Tassimo Pro has an adjustable coffee cup stand, and looks to be hardier than it's consumer market cousins.
We're also not sure if you'll be able to get the brewer as a consumer, or will have to qualify as a small business. We're also wondering if consumer T-Discs will work in the Tassimo Pro brewer, or if there will be different sized T-Discs for the home business market. The Tassimo Pro small business brewer will debut in Q3 of this year.
Mr. Coffee and Keurig Create New Line of K-Cup Single-Cup Coffeemakers
No you are not seeing double, both Cuisinart and Mr. Coffee are going to be making their version of the Keurig single-cup and one cup coffee makers. Jarden Consumer Solutions, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jarden Corporation (NYSE: JAH), and Keurig, Incorporated, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. (NASDAQ: GMCR), announced a new agreement to jointly develop Mr. Coffee single-cup coffeemakers. These will feature Keurig’s branded, patented single-cup brewing technology for the more than 200 varieties of gourmet coffees, teas and hot cocoa packaged in Keurig’s patented K-Cup® portion packs.
Jarden Consumer Solutions (JCS) intends to commercialize the new coffeemakers in the U.S. and Canada under the Mr. Coffee® brand featuring Keurig®-branded brewing technology to be sold to JCS’s retail customers alongside its other products.
We'll have more details as we find them, but having Keurig, Breville, Cuisinart, and now Mr. Coffee make K-Cup single serve coffee makers is really exciting news, and should lead to lots of new K-Cups as well.
Cuisinart K-Cup Brewers On the Way - Keurig Announces Coffeemaker Partnership
It looks like we're going to be see Cuisinart branded single serve and one cup coffee makers in the future that won't be using coffee pods. Cuisinart and Keurig today announced they are entering into a licensing and distribution agreement that will enable Conair (Cuisinart's parente company) to develop, market and sell, in the United States and Canada, single-cup coffeemakers under the Cuisinart brand. The launch is currently planned for spring 2010. The products will be co-branded Cuisinart and Keurig and will be designed to work with the 200+ varieties of gourmet coffees, teas and hot cocoa packaged in Keurig’s patented K-Cup portion packs.
We'll have more details as we get them, but this is very exciting news indeed.
Coffee People K-Cup Extra Bold Donut Shop Coffee for Keurig Brewers
It's funny how you revisit a coffee and really start to enjoy it all over again, and recently we've been drinking a ton of Coffee People's Donut Shop Coffee. The Coffee People Donut Shop Coffee is more on the medium to mild side (read our full review here), with a hint of extra bold flavor. It's very low in acid, and the raspy throat often accompanied by other Donut Shop Coffees is not present here. There is a nice flavor in the mouth after having a few sips, and the caffeine amount seems spot on.
We have the Sun Cafe coffee pod brewer in house, and are very excited to review it. So far it looks very similiar to a the Simplehuman coffee pod brewer, but we'll run it through our review tests and see what we find. One thing we expect as a shortcoming is the ability to use two Senseo 7 gram coffee pods at a time. Not much of a limitation, but we thought a lot of people back in the days of the Simplehuman pod brewer were disappointed in the lack of this functionality. Since then however, the availability of 8-12 gram one cup coffee pods has grown tremendously.
The Sun Cafe single cup pod brewer makes coffee one cup at a time. Patented pod drawer works with a wide variety of pods, allowing you to choose your favorite coffee or tea. Innovative extraction system brings out the full range of the coffee or tea for a perfectly balanced cup. Brewer comes with a variety pack of Kienna Coffee pods.
Stylish LCD display for quick and easy-to-use.
Brew 5 to 12 ounces of coffee or tea to preferred strength by changing the volume setting. Specifications:
Weirder things have happened in the Single Serve Coffee World, but nothing weirder than a cat named Sockington, and a cafe latte printer. Yep - a cat and a latte meet together on a coffee table, and on said coffee table is an amazing printer that can well - print an image on the foam of your latte. Crazy. The printer is from OnLatte.com - we'll see what we can find on that, but for now enjoy some Sockington.

Video game meets coffee in Nirvana.
The Keurig Mini B30 has increased in price from $79.95 to $89.95. We're not sure why Keurig has raised the price on the Keurig Mini B30, but it may be due to the popularity and ever increasing prices in manufacturing we've been seeing here at Single Serve Coffee, and our sister site Single Serve Espresso. We still think the Keurig Mini B30 is the perfect little Keurig for your home or office, but at only $10 more - it's hard to pass up on the Keurig B40 single serve brewer as an option now.
Top 10 Best Selling Single Serve Coffee Makers - June 2009
Here we are in June 2009 in probably one of the worst recessions in US history, but people are still drinking tons of single serve and one cup coffee. They're also buying lots of single serve coffee machines too. Keurig is now dominating all but the top slot in the top 5 single serve coffee makers, and the Bosch Tassimo is staying put in the 6th slot.
Do you think these coffee makers represent the best selling or the best? What single serve coffee makers do you think should make a best of list regardless of sales? Sound off in the comments and let us know.
Looking for a way to use any espresso grade coffee in your Nespresso single serve espresso and coffee maker? Try NexPod. NexPod is compatible with any Nespresso system. The single use NexPod for Nespresso allows you to use your Nespresso machine with the coffee (or tea) of your choice. The capsules are easily closed with the joined cap and inserted in the Nespresso machine as normal Nespresso capsules.
It looks like there are two parts to the capsule - the plastic and a paper insert. Here's how it works:
Insert the circular paper filter in the cap of the pod
Use the pod itself to gather the coffee and close the capsules directly in the coffee bag to avoid spilling
Press the ground coffee in the pod
Please clean the edge of the capsule before closing it
Insert the NexPod in the Machine as a normal Nespresso pod
For a stronger espresso use finer ground coffee.
We're going to see if we can get one of these to review soon. Right now you can purchase direct and on ebay, but we've yet to see any US auctions on ebay pop up.
Making Iced Coffee and Tea with the Keurig Platinum B70
Whether it's gathering round the patio after a hearty BBQ or heading out for a drive on a lazy Summer week-end, those of you who purchased the new Keurig Platinum B70 this past year can cool off by taking advantage of a neat little feature which has yet to appear on other Keurig models: you can now make iced coffees/teas which you can customize to your own flavor preferences.
Why pay upwards of $2.50 for an iced coffee or iced tea at a coffee shop or fast food restaurant when you can make your own at home? Over the past few weeks, we've been testing various K-Cups to see which ones were best suited to be "iced" vs. prepared in their usual manner. Let’s take a quick look at some of our favorite varieties along with flavoring suggestions for each.
It should be noted that we used unflavored 10% blend cream and all-natural Stevia sugar substitute to achieve some of the sweeter iced latte drinks. We realize most of our readers may not have easy access to specialty coffee flavoring syrups, so we decided not to use any during our testing. Feel free to use half & half or 1% skim milk and whatever sweeteners/flavorings you prefer.

Topless Coffee Shop In Maine Burns - Blaze Was Arson
Oh well - we never got a cup of coffee at the Topless Coffee Shop in Maine, but the bigger bummer is the fact the shop has burned down. What's an even bigger bummer - the fire was caused by arson. You'd think in these tough economic times people could leave a little topless coffee shop alone, but the fire followed a Tuesday night planning board meeting in which coffee shop owner talked about his expansion plans for the business as well as having dancing and longer operating hours.
We guess someone said - enough is enough, and decided to take the law into their own hands. Well - we say - not cool. We hope everyone is okay, and perhaps they'll be able to rebuild and start serving coffee soon. A special thanks to Beth for sending this in.
There's a new coffee pod brewer coming to Canada from Kienna - the SunCafe Coffee Pod Brewer. Kienna - the parent company makes a ton of other coffee products, so they're getting in to the serve serve coffee pod business. We don't have details on pricing as of yet but we have some details on the brewer.
The SunCafe single serve coffee pod brewer makes coffee in less than a minute, and uses a patented extraction system.
The extraction process ensures :
water is infused over the Pod evenly at the ideal temperature
unique flow channels in the pod holders prevents water from flowing around or through the pod too quickly
paused water flow system optimizes contact between the coffee and water. With about 35 psi vibration pump pressure, the brewing system captures the complexity of the beans in every cup
We'll have a full review once we receive the brewer.

We love the Single Serve Coffee forums because they get single serve coffee drinkers discussing lots of topics near and dear to our coffee drinking hearts - like how do you store your K-Cups, coffee pods, and T-Discs? May was amazing here at Single Serve Coffee. The weather was much warmer and the coffee a bit sweeter with the Summer days ahead of us. We have news coming up of a new single serve coffee pod brewer, and also more coffee reviews are in the works.
