ECO CUP - Save the Planet One Cup of Coffee at a Time

31PDHyP1SiL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

We're always on the lookout for a coffee cup that both helps us use less throwaway cups, and looks pretty cool. We've seen many versions of the "faux" porcelain cup, and we think the sleeve and lid in silicon makes this one a winner. The sleeve may come brown or white when you order this, and the single-walled, porcelain cup with attachable silicon lid keep drinks warm while helping the environment.

Update:CoffeeWiz.com just sent us word they've sold over 1000 cups since introduction last year of the ECO-Cup. That means they've helped to save 300,000+ paper, plastic, and styrofoam cups the fate of ending up in a landfill. Our hat is off to CoffeeWiz.com for featuring this product and promoting eco-friendly ways of enjoying coffee.

Thermos 16 Ounce Leak-Proof Travel Mug - Built Rugged for the Outdoors

4195ypIY-hL._SL500_AA280_.jpg

We've just spent the morning trying to unfreeze a downspout, and thought how a really great rugged travel mug of warm coffee could have made the job easier. We have just found the TherMax double wall vacuum travel mug which locks in temperature to preserve flavor and freshness. We'll just take some warm coffee please.

This mug also features a unbreakable 18/8 stainless steel interior and exterior which would come in handy from the frustration of unfreezing the downspout. The mug has a Leak-proof 360° drink lid which makes coffee drinkable from any direction, and has a large footprint and sturdy rubber bottom.

Pixel Coffee Table Brings Out the 8 Bits In You

pixable2_TQtUm_1822.jpg

We love some good geek furniture, and this pixel table by Joongho Choi expands the boundaries of geekdom. The pixels start at the base expanding upwards into the coffee mug perch of your dreams. We'll have to see where this coffee table will fit in our house, but it may make it's debut in our sun porch area if it becomes commercially available.

Pac-Man Hot/Cold Coffee Mug - 8-Bit Coffee Action

pacmanheatmug.jpg

Somedays the stars align to create the perfect coffee mug, and today is one of those days. The Pac Man coffee mug is blank when cold, but then shows you Pac Man and ghosts when the mug is hot. We love the 8-bit style graphics, and long for the days of table top arcade games at your favorite pizza palace. There is also a Space Invaders version, but in we're a bit more partial to Pac Man.

DIY Magnetized Coffee Sleeve - Stick On Coffee Cup Sleeve

500x_coffee-cup.jpg

The magnetized coffee sleeve started out as an attempt to create a plastic, magnetized cup holder that would let you stick your cup to the nearest available metal surface. However that seemed to be a bit much given coffee cups you get at Starbuck's or other coffee nooks, so it came to be more of a reusable sleeve with magnet features.

You can easily make your own version of this by snagging reusable coffee sleeves online, or making your own with perhaps some strips of fabric. All you'll need to do is attach a couple of strong magnets, and insert your favorite coffee beverage in a cup.

Poem Coffee Cup and Saucer - Write Your Coffee Opus

poem-cup-and-saucer.jpg

We're always wondering where our pen has gone when we have a cup of single serve coffee, and this coffee cup fixes the issue. This cup is meant for the list takers of the world and poem lovers, that sit down with their cup of coffee and write away (like ourselves). Perhaps the next version of this will have an iPhone dock to make it a little more modern - or perhaps the rumored Apple Tablet.

Do You Heat Up Your Coffee Cup Before Making a Cup of Coffee?

heatingupyourcoffeemug.jpg

We realized that we're always heating up our coffee mugs here in the Single Serve Coffee test kitchen when reviewing coffee, or just having a cup of our favorite single serve coffee. Since we use clear glass coffee cups, we simply rinse the cup out a few times under our instant hot dispenser to get the temperature up so the coffee stays hot longer in the cup. Another method we have used with non-clear cups is to simply microwave a coffee cup that is microwave safe but tends to heat up.

Other methods include using the cup warmers on various machines when we have them out in the test kitchen. We often heat up all of our espresso cups using the cup warmer on top of our Nespresso cube or the like - or we'll use the steam wand on our Gaggia to also heat up a cup or two.

Do you do this? Do you heat up your coffee cup prior to use? Do you think it makes a better cup of single serve coffee? Sound off in the comments and you can let us know via Twitter and Facebook as well whether you practice the art of coffee cup warming.

Zipper Coffee Cup Mug

6a00d8341c5dea53ef012875ab6cf2970c-800wi.jpg

We've seen some strange coffee cups in our time, but none with a zipper on the side. These cups are supposedly to be about bonding and a relationship, but we think they could just look cool too. You can purchase these in sets of 2 with 2 coasters included at $40 per pair through Molla Space.

Unique_mugs.jpg

Gizmodiva has a really great round up of interesting coffee mugs (many of which we've featured here at Single Serve Coffee). They go into great detail on the above mug, and also several other mugs including a Carabiner mug (we want one). Remember to check out our coffee cups and travel mugs section, and there's alway our favorites - the Bodum coffee cups.
