We think we'll chalk the Fresh Brew Highwave Coffee Mug Brewer up to - we'll wait and see. The new and very Melitta pour over coffee system uses paper or cotton filters to make a single cup of coffee.
We can't really see this being very innovative but perhaps it's a bit better than just setting the rig right on top. Has anyone used a cotton coffee filter?
A special thanks to Jenn for sending this in.

There's an interesting thread in the forums on what to do with your used coffee pods. Now some of the posts suggest just throwing them away or simply throwing those old nasty pods at kids near your house (you'll have to read the thread). Interesting ideas.
We like to use ours for fertilizer in house plants and use them in compost during the Summer. A great way to keep a bin of the old coffee pods is to use a coffee pod trash can that sits on your countertops. We received such a can and use it daily. It's really much easier than finding a place to put the used pods or having to use them in a house plant right away. We like to fill up a good half to full can before embarking on a little fertilizer trip.
When composting in the Summer we like to break them open a bit and then toss them in. Sure you may get your hands dirty but you're helping your garden and the environment. We even found a can that would allow you to start your compost in the kitchen and then take to your compost pile at Kitchen Contraptions.
What do you do with your used pods? Sound off in the forums!

Interest in using your own coffee with your single serve coffee maker seems to start when you first receive it and when you really want to make a cup of coffee you can't get in pod form yet - like Starbucks or Pete's coffees.
It is It's nice to see Amazon.com finally pick up this refillable holder for Senseo. Unlike the Ecopad which uses a filter basket, this one uses filters. So after 100 uses you're going to need to get more filters to use with the My Pod. Note: This for use with Phillips Senseo pod coffee maker models only as is the Ecopad. It comes with one podholder, a coffee scoop and 100 filters.

We're excited to have received the Aerobie® AeroPress(TM) Coffee & Espresso Maker to review. We have been testing it out over the past few weeks and have to say it's very interesting. It's different from other Single Serve Coffee methods as you'll have to revert back to using some ground beans or a package of illy ground espresso coffee, but we think you'll like the results.
From AeroPress:
The AEROPRESS™ is an entirely new way to make coffee.
- Water and grounds are mixed together for ten seconds.
- Then gentle air pressure pushes the mix through a micro-filter in 20 seconds.
- The total brewing time of only 30 seconds results in exceptionally smooth flavor.
- Tasters ranging from professional cuppers and author Kenneth Davids, to coffee aficionados all praise the smooth, rich flavor.

Newton is a new and practical way of serving sugar and milk for coffee or tea. The mechanism in the Newton-set is based on gravity and allows you to pour milk or cream without removing the sugar bowl on top of the creamer…the mechanism keeps the bowl still while you tip the pitcher.
We can see ourselves amazing guests over the holidays with such a clever invention. A nice cup of single serve coffee and perhaps a cream and sugar physics trick? Thanks Newton.

What's better than single serve coffee? Well - single serve microwave coffee! We're not totally sure on that just yet, but the new LiliPod Microwave Coffee Pod Brew Mug has arrived - actually two of them.
We purchased both the red and the blue one just because we have to have them. We never thought that after a year we'd have a microwave single serve coffee mug and it's well - exciting. The LilyPod Microwave Brew Mug supposedly brews up a nice cup of joe in 3 minutes or so and that means less mess and whatever flavor pod you'd like to throw into it. Nice. We'll have a full review in the next week or so. And - YES - it says you can make espresso and cappuccino in it. We'll be the judge of that.

Currently most single serve coffee machines simply do not have a milk frother and this has resulted in a variety of "other methods" to get our whipped milk when using the Senseo, Bunn My Cafe, Krups Home Cafe, and simplehuman single serve coffee pod brewers. We currently have 3 options for you when trying to get your hot frothed or steamed milk to make cappuccinos and lattes with your single serve coffee machines.
One easy way if you simply want hot milk is to take a 1 oz shot of skim milk and microwave it for 30 seconds or less. This makes the milk hot and yummy and also ensures you don't immediately cool down your cup of single serve coffee. We use a shot glass or the pyrex glasses we ordered from Nespresso (review underway of the Nespresso club - coming shortly).
If you want to froth and have hot milk, you'll need to microwave or heat up on the stove a bit more milk and use the Turbo-Froth Frother. We've found this device to be the best at helping us make a cappuccino or latte with a our single serve coffee or shots of Nespresso.
Another option is the Capresso frothXpress PLUS System. This stand alone milk frother for just under $70 can make frothed milk like no other. Completely automatic, the new Capresso frother features a sturdy pump and powerful stainless steel thermoblock that produces enough hot steam to froth up to 30-oz. of milk in seconds-that's enough cappuccinos or lattes for you and some friends! The milk temperature can be adjusted from 120 to 170 degrees F, while an indicator light lets you know when it's ready.
We hope these three options get you into a latte this morning! We're going to see what we can whip up ourselves.

Now we're talking. Everyone here at Single Serve Coffee was wondering when someone would figure you might be able to brew up a single serve cup of coffee using a single mug. It looks like Melitta has figured it out with their new Melitta One:One Microwaveable Coffee Pod Mug Brewer. The mugs come in both red and blue and will make coffee, espresso (can it really make espresso?), and tea by inserting a pod into the mug and microwaving for 2-3 minutes. The mug comes with 18 Melitta Javapods when you order it from Melitta online.
We'll be tracking down some of these mugs and expect a full review soon.

We can't think of a better way to spend the evening than a great cup of single serve coffee and throwing another Java Log on the fire. Made of recycled coffee grounds and declared one of the “Coolest Inventions of the Year” by Time Magazine. We have been seeing these quite a bit and just had to share the Java Log with our Single Serve Coffee readers.
The Java-Log is the world’s first and only fire-log made from recycled coffee grounds. Throw a Java-Log into the fire place and then sit back, relax, and enjoy up to 3 hours of long lasting beautiful flames that emit more heat, a slightly sweet aroma but no coffee aroma, no chemical smell, and less carbon dioxide than traditional fires.
- Comes in a Case of 6 Logs.
- Better/Brighter Flames: More natural flame throughout the burning cycle.
- Better Scent: No chemical scent as with manufactured logs and a mild sweet aroma.
- Better for the Chimney: Less than 50% soot build-up than other manufactured logs.
- Better for the Environment: Less 14% C02 emission than other manufactured logs.
- More for the Environment: Reusing coffee grounds reduces waste in landfills.
- Easy to Light: One match will do by lighting the packaging.
- Burns-up to 3 Hrs: The same amount of time as other manufactured logs
