Note: This is a real coffee pod. About 62 mm wide and 7-14 grams in weight depending on the coffee pod creator.
We get this question at least 3-4 times a week from readers looking for more coffee pod variety for their single serve coffee pod brewer and the answer is - no. Espresso pods will not work in single serve coffee pod brewers like the Senseo, Bunn My Cafe, Melitta One:One, simplehuman, Krups Home Cafe, and other single serve coffee pod makers .
Espresso pods are typically much smaller and much harder packed with a much finer grind. Single serve coffee pods typically are 55-62 mm in diameter and come in sizes from 7-14 grams. One quick and easy way to tell a coffee pod from an espresso pod? Espresso pods usually have a tab on the side to help remove the pod from the espresso machine.
Why such a variety of shapes and sizes for single serve coffee pods? There really is no standard for coffee pods unlike some espresso pods. One variety of espresso pods that is a standard is the E.S.E. variety. What does E.S.E. stand for? Easy Serving Espresso. This is the gold standard for espresso pods, and any espresso machine like the Francis Francis from Illy - which is E.S.E. certified - these espresso pods will work the best. If you really want to learn more about espresso pods visit our sister site: SingleServeEspresso.com.
Now back to coffee pods. How do you know what coffee pods work in your single serve coffee brewer?

Everyone always asks, "I like using coffee pods - but can I make my own? How do I use my own coffee?" Up until recently you had two options - the Ecopad, the Refillable Coffee Filter for the Senseo and T Sacs when using a single serve coffee pod brewer. Now there's a new coffee pod maker in town - Perfect Pod Coffee Pod Maker
We first heard about the Perfect Pod Maker last year when it was only available from Coffee Giant. Reviews were mixed at first, with some people loving it and some people sticking to using T-Sacs (disposable tea bags you can fill with coffee and make your own pods) instead. We decided at the beginning of this year that we'd pick a Perfect Pod Maker up, and see how it matched against T-Sacs, and how well the Perfect Pod Maker worked with the various single serve coffee pod machines.
We received the original Perfect Pod Coffee Pod Maker over 3 weeks ago, and have made just north of 30+ cups of single serve coffee with it. The Perfect Pod Maker can create any coffee pod you want from the "hot press" pod maker, using the 40 pod papers that come with it, and any ground coffee you want to put in each coffee pod. The Perfect Pod Maker will work with your Senseo, Melitta One:One, simplehuman, Juan Valdez, Bunn Home Cafe, Mr. Coffee, Hamilton Beach, and Black & Decker Home Cafe single serve coffee machines.
How does it work? Does it work well? Do the coffee pods made from the Perfect Pod Maker fit in most machines? What are the pros and cons of using the Perfect Pod Maker

The Senseo Store now carries the Brabantia Stainless Steel Coffee Pod Canister with a Senseo logo. We love our coffee pod canisters and first picked them up at Amazon.com sans the logo. But if you need to keep the Senseo branding full and strong in your kitchen, the Senseo Coffee Pod canisters will keep things air tight and your single serve coffee pods fresh. The Senseo Coffee Pod Canisters hold up to 18 coffee pods and cost the same as their unbranded counterparts at just $11.95 a canister.

CoffeeWhiz.com has Black Mountain Gold Kenya AA Coffee Pods for your Senseo, Bunn My Cafe, Melitta One:One, simplehuman, Krups Home Cafe, and other single serve coffee pod brewers.
The Kenya AA coffee is grown in the rich fertile soils of the Mount Kenya Region know for beans that produce superior balance and body with fuller more intense flavors.
We've had the Kenya AA and really like it. It has a bold flavor that lingers with a longer finish than most Kenyan coffees we've had.

It's been quite awhile since Ethiopian Sidamo graced our single serve coffee pod brewers here at Single Serve Coffee. We remember sampling some espresso pods from Hausbrandt and that's about it. We just received a set of the Gourmet Café Limited Edition Ethiopia Sidamo coffee pods from BetterCoffee.com.
One of the things to note about Sidamo coffee is how close to Kenya the coffee is grown, which makes for a very complex coffee with a bit of acidity to it. We also remember a bit of the "floral" note thing but mostly how similiar yet different the the coffee was from a typical Kenyan blend. These coffee pods will work in your Senseo, Bunn My Cafe, Melitta One:One, simplehuman, Krups Home Cafe, and other single serve coffee pod brewers.
We'll have a full review soon.

Readers are always writing in asking the Single Serve Coffee staff how much the different single serve coffee systems cost to own and operate and especially how much each cup of single serve coffee will cost. We think the questions "what's best", or what's "cheapest," or what's "least expensive" all fall under this category of question as well, but starting with what type of coffee you'd like to make and how much it will cost is a good way to find out which single serve coffee maker is the least expensive to own and operate.
Are Senseo Coffee Pods, Tassimo T-Disks, K-Cups or Nespresso Coffee Capsules the best option for you? Which system falls in your price range? Does the single serve coffee maker or system match your coffee drinking habits? These are all good questions that go hand and hand with the price per cup.
The guide below should give you all the detail you need to know on what coffee system may be right for you. Depending on which type of single serve coffee maker you choose, be it coffee pods, k cups, t discs, or nespresso capsules, you'll be choosing the type of coffee you can get per system and also how much per cup your single serve coffee will cost, and how flexible that cost can be, and what types of coffee the single serve coffee maker can prepare.
If you look at the four major type of single serve coffee you can purchase there are essentially 4 main types:
- Coffee Pods - work with a variety of single serve coffee makers including: Senseo, Bunn My Cafe, Melitta One:One, Grindmaster, simplehuman, and Krups Home Cafe. Coffee pod brewers are the "open standard" of single serve coffee makers, with the largest variety of coffees available reaching over 250+ varieties of coffee pods.
- K Cups - work only with Keurig brewers. Models include: Keurig Elite B40 Brewer, Keurig B50, Keurig Special Edition Ultra Elite B60, and the newly released Keurig B70 Brewer. You can expect to get in the 150+ variety range for K Cup types of coffee as well as tea.
- T Discs: works only with the Tassimo line of single serve coffee makers. You can expect to get 30+ different coffees and teas for your Tassimo brewer.
- Nespresso Coffee Capsules: works only with the Nespresso line of single serve coffee makers. On average there are 12 regular varieties and 3-4 unique varieties per year.
Given the run down of each of the different types, how much does each cup of single serve coffee cost per system?

We've recently been introduced to an amazing coffee pod from Creative Pods. The mission at Creative Pods is to provide their customers with the finest possible quality and variety in single serve coffee and tea pods, and a major component of this effort is the quality of the raw materials (coffee, tea, mate, etc) and the fact that they grind to order. Coupled with this goal is their pledge to use eco-friendly/organic materials whenever possible and to clearly identify any necessary deviations from this policy.
Creative Pods is a small cottage business formed by two people (Carol and Tom Maziarz) that love coffee, tea and mate as well as traveling and meeting interesting people that grow or drink these hot beverages. Creative Pods has developed equipment and methods that allow them to package to order. This means processing very small (sometimes less than ¼ pound) batches that would be impossible with commercially available equipment.
“None of our pods are prepared ahead and stored. We want to ensure that our customers experience the same wonderful aroma and taste that they can receive from their local barista.”
Creative Pods has 5 main components to their philosophy of coffee pod creation for amazing single serve coffee:
1. Pods are custom made for each machine based on individual grind and quantity of coffee for each machine.
2. Highest quality coffee for the price.
3. Freshness is the key
4. Eco-friendly - unbleached cardboard boxes, work with native growers - foils are their only departure from "eco-friendly" and they plan to give customers a choice
5. innovation - tea pods, mushroom pods, mate
How do they stack up in the Creative Pods sampler pack? How good are their pods compared to shelf stored coffee pods for Senseo or Krups Home Cafe?
