Eight O'Clock Coffee K-Cups

Eight oclock original coffee kcups

Eight O'Clock Coffee K-Cups are now available, and it’s a welcome surprise to a brand that’s over 100 years old. Eight O'Clock Coffee was created by The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company in 1859, which is also that company's founding year. Despite selling off the brand in 2003, A&P continues to sell Eight O'Clock Coffee today throughout its own family of stores.

This is a medium roast coffee that is certified Kosher, and the Eight O'Clock Coffee K-Cups produce a sweet, fruity and well balanced cup of single serve coffee. These K-Cups will work in K-Cup Brewers including Keurig 2.0.

Keurig K-Cup Coffee Pods from Calgary Fuel British Columbia Cement Plant

Keurig s single serving k cups two

If you can’t recycle those K-Cups perhaps you can burn them? That’s right a cement plant in British Columbia is using spent Keurig K-Cups as part of the company's push to move from fossil fuels to alternative fuels. Since the K-Cups are not recyclable because, and they are a mixture of materials — coffee grounds, a paper filter, plastic cup, and foil top — that cannot be efficiently separated. Solution? The cement plant dries them out, grinds them up, and uses the spent ash as part of the cement mixture. Imagine - if you get your concrete from this plant you could have a house made of K-Cups.

One very cool thing - there is no change to the plant's emissions. The plant burned 32,682 kg (80,000 pounds) of K-Cups last year, which is millions of individual cups diverted from  landfill sites.

Numi Moroccan Mint Tea Real Cups Review

Numi organic tea mint kcup

While we weren’t aware of the Numi brand before this review, we were a bit surprised to see how much popularity it had apparently gained in certain parts of USA & Canada over the past several years without our knowledge. It seems almost every week we’re hearing of a new brand making its way to the single serve world in one form or another, so we set about trying to find more info about the brand itself and these new Real Cups. While we couldn’t find much mention of the Real Cups except for this press release from early last year (the company’s own website makes no mention of them at all), we did find out that Numi got its start in Oakland California back in 1999 when brother (Ahmed Rahim) & sister (Reem Rahim) decided to start up their own tea company after noticing little difference in consistency & selection within competing tea brands already on the market.

Ahmed had already owned & operated tea houses abroad while Reem had been studying art in Northern California. They wanted to create a company that would encompass both their passions and so Numi Organic Tea was born. The hallmark of the company has since become known as super-premium, organic and Fair Trade Certified teas and herbal teas made with 100% real ingredients. They also make a point to ensure no natural flavorings or perfumes are used to flavor the teas… all the flavor comes from the natural ingredients themselves, nothing else.

Martinson Powder Single Cup Hot Beverages

Wildcherry powder martinson

We recently received Martinson French Vanilla, Martinson Wild Cherry Dark Cocoa and Martinson Cocoa powder single cups and have been enjoying them all over the past 4 snowstorms. We really love the Wild Cherry Dark Cocoa, and have found it our go to after shoveling and digging out single cup. All of the Martinson French Vanilla, Martinson Wild Cherry Dark Cocoa and Martinson Cocoa will work all K-Cup Brewers BUT NOT Keurig 2.0 just yet. We do know Martinson is working on getting 2.0 compatible single cups.

Martinson display powders

These single cups should be rolling out to retailers now, and you can currently get them at Coffee Icon. Also Martinson has a pretty nifty set of displays they are rolling out at retail to promote the new flavors.

Keurig Cold Brew Process Explained

Keurig cold vs soda stream

Over at the Winnipeg Free Press there’s an interesting snippet on how Keurig Cold will work.

Unlike his competitor, Glorieux said Keurig Cold simplifies the process by cooling down the water as it pumps it through the machine, while it combines the syrup and carbonation that pour into the glass.

The process will be much more like a Nespresso or Tassimo that uses heat coils to instantly heat water as it's brewing. Keurig Cold will use cooling coils to instantly chill water as it's brewing. It’s like a pod-based single serve mini fridge of sorts. What’s interesting is the fact you’ll need to plug in Keurig Cold, and this makes us think Sodastream fans will likely object to doing so (even though the premium top of the line electronic Sodastream does in fact require a power source too).

Everything will become much more crystal clear (or Coke colored) this fall in 2015 when Keurig Cold finally launches.
