Keurig Mini-Plus Brewers Recalled for Too-Hot Coffee

Keurig mini plus recall

Keurig Green Mountain is recalling more than 7 million Keurig Mini Plus brewers after 90 reported burn-related injuries. The coffee produced by these brewers is too hot and can overheat during the brewing process, spraying out and burning coffee drinkers. Keurig has received about 200 reports of hot liquid escaping from the brewer, including 90 of those that said they suffered burn-related injuries.

More details on the CPSC site.

The company is recalling about 6.6 million units sold in the U.S. and 564,000 sold in Canada. The recalled units were produced between the end of 2009 and July 2014 and were sold at a handful of national retailers, as well as online on Keurig’s website.

We think you should stop using your brewer immediately and call today for a repair on the brewer.

Corporate Essentials and Offer Keurig Compatible RealCups in 2015

The RealCup brand is going to grow really big in 2015, and part of it is making more and more partnerships happen. Also RealCups will be compatible moving forward with all Keurig K-Cup brewers including 2.0. Beginning in January, Corporate Essentials will be expanding its offering to include more than 60 different products from the RealCup portfolio. This includes Martinson coffees, cocoas and cappuccinos, Tim Hortons coffee, Marley Coffee, Higgins & Burke teas and Brown Gold coffees.

Corporate Essentials will offer new and existing clients the RC400 RealCup brewer from Mother Parkers. The dependable, commercial grade office brewer delivers maximum flexibility and performance with both a water reservoir AND plumbed-in capabilities, as well as brew sizes from 4–16 oz. Beginning in 2015, coffee brands in the RealCup portfolio will be available in the more environmentally friendly EcoCup format, which makes it easy for users to dissemble the capsule components for recycling.

Corporate Essentials also reaches beyond their extensive client list in the OCS Channel, with more than 50,000 individual online shoppers in the U.S. who have connected with the company’s at-home ordering website at Individual buyers will have the opportunity to purchase RealCup brand offerings with more than 60 SKUs soon to be available for on-line purchase.

This means that Corporate Essentials is essentially shedding any ties to Keurig Green Mountain, and will be using RealCup and their coffees and brewers exclusively next year. Pretty exciting times in the single serve coffee world, and we can’t wait to check out all the coffee offerings that will grow out of these partnerships and brewers as well.

McCafe K-Cups from McDonald's Now in Stores

Mccafe kcups 2014

AB on a recent trip to Shaw’s in Bangor, Maine was surprised to see McCafe coffee in K-Cup form. Shaw’s offered both ground coffee and K-cups, and the K-cups come in the following varieties:

  • Medium Roast
  • Dark Roast
  • Decaf

They are produced by Kraft foods and are fully licensed with Keurig. They run $7.99 for a box of 12, and since they are fully licensed the McCafe K-Cups will work in all K-Cup Brewers including Keurig 2.0.

Tootsie Roll & Junior Mints Hot Cocoa Single Cups Review

01 TR JM

It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything that truly piqued our interest in the single serve market and when we noticed the recent appearance of various chocolate candy inspired hot cocoas from brands such as Sugar Babies, Charleston Chew, Tootsie Roll & Junior Mints, we at first thought this was a severely early April Fools joke. That is until we started noticing more and more online retailers starting to carry them. Holy cow… these were actually REAL products! We immediately set about trying to procure various flavors only to find out that they were sold out almost everywhere (argh! why didn’t we believe these were real when they were announced?!?). We did however manage to secure a few samples of the Tootsie Roll & Junior Mint Hot Cocoa Single Cups and that’s what we’ll be checking out today.

iCoffee Opus Single Serve K-Compatible Cup Brewer Review

Icoffee brewershot

It's been an interesting year for the entire single serve coffee industry, and especially with the introduction of the Keurig 2.0. The problem has been with the Keurig 2.0 - it only brews compatible Keurig 2.0 Keurig brewed K-Cups. If you have an older K-Cup brewer you're in luck, but what if that older brewer has stopped working and you don't want a Keurig 2.0 with the DRM to lock you in to only what Keurig Green Mountain has to offer in K-Cups? We think you're going to be just fine with the iCoffee Opus K-Compatible single serve coffee brewer.

Tim Hortons Dark Roast Real Cups

As anyone North of the border knows, Tim Hortons is to Canada what Dunkin Donuts is to America. It’s the largest coffee chain in Canada started by a hockey player bearing the same name (how à-propos) and throughout the decades, they’ve forced out many competitors from Canada including, much to our Canadian Correspondent’s dismay, Dunkins themselves. While they’re not as popular in America, they’ve rebranded themselves Tim Hortons Bake Shop in USA and have a small presence mostly throughout a few States in New England. Tims (as most Canucks refer to it) is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary in Canada and they’ve decided to do something rather unique.
