The whisper quiet Keurig Platinum B70 with
Quiet Brew Technology and an Iced Coffee setting.
Keurig is updating the Keurig Platinum B70 with two new features this August - Quiet Brew Technology and an Iced Coffee setting. We recently visited Keurig, and found these two new features to be really what the Single Serve Coffee doctor had ordered.
Update: Brew over Iced Coffee K-Cups and Brew Over Iced Tea K-Cups are available for summer, and we're pretty excited they came with enough time to order them for the upcoming hot weather. Green Mountain Coffee Nantucket Blend and French Vanilla Iced Coffee in K-Cups are both available in this format. Both K-Cups are based on the popular hot versions of their namesakes, but are specially blended to provide full flavor when brewed into a cup of ice.
For iced tea lovers, two new Celestial Seasonings Perfect Iced Teas are debuting: Half and Half (part black tea, part lemonade) and Southern Sweet Tea. These new K-Cups join the four Perfect Iced Tea varieties introduced last summer: Sweet Lemon Black Tea, Sweet Peach Black Tea, Sweet Raspberry Black Tea and Black Tea Unsweetened.

We love our current Keurig Platinum B70, but the end of the brew cycle was very loud. Now the pump that made all that noise has been redesigned, and the resulting brew cycle is whisper quiet. The Quiet Brew Technology will only be featured on the B70 this Fall.

The Keurig Mini B30 single serve coffee brewer. It comes in
red and white as well.
Keurig, Incorporated has a new addition to its consumer brewer product line - the Mini B30 brewer. We announced last week we had heard rumblings of this new mini brewer for $79, and those rumblings are true. The Mini B30 is basically the Keurig B130 (which we love) for the consumer market.
The Mini B30 brewer is the introduction of a new platform for the Keurig at-home brewing systems. The Mini is a smaller size meaning you can enjoy Keurig brewing at your desk, in your boat, at your vacation home, in your dorm room or just about anywhere. Since there is no water reservoir in the Mini, it takes 3 minutes to heat the water and brew the perfect cup of gourmet coffee, tea or hot cocoa. Just pour in 8 oz of water each time you want to brew. The Mini B30 is the first Keurig brewer available in multiple colors. Retailers will offer the black or white Mini, and the Keurig website will include a vibrant red color.
The Keurig Mini B30 in red and white.
All Keurig brewers use Keurig's patented K-Cup portion packs. K-Cups are "mini-brewers" that eliminate the hassle of grinding beans, measuring coffee, handling filters and messy clean-up while brewing a gourmet cup of coffee or tea in less than one minute. With over 200 different coffee, tea and hot cocoa varieties from 13 gourmet partners, Keurig meets the diverse taste profiles of just about every single serve hot beverage drinker.
You can read our earlier article on the Keurig Mini B30 here. In the mean time if you can't wait to buy a mini, and need your Keurig K Cup coffee fix, you can always get one of their currently available brewers including the Keurig Elite B40 Brewer, Keurig B50, Keurig Special Edition Ultra Elite B60, Keurig B70 Brewer, and the Breville BKC600XL Gourmet Single Cup Brewer.

The Keurig Mini single serve coffee brewer will debut this Fall for $79, and be based on the Keurig B130, according to the information we received from this week's Green Mountain Coffee conference call.
Here's what we know:
"This fall we will be introducing a new consumer brewer at a new, lower retail price point of $79. This brewer will be called the Keurig Mini B30, and is based on our fourth generation brewing technology that is used in our current hotel in-room brewer. The brewer will heat water and brew a cup of coffee, tea or hot coca in less than three minutes. It's smaller than our other at-home brewers, and it will be offered in black, white and red. The Keurig Mini B30 has targeted consumers who want a Keurig brewer for occasional use in home offices, small kitchens, recreational vehicles, dormitory rooms and so forth. This will be a fun product, and we even plan to offer a tote bag as an accessory for the brewer and K-Cups."
We were so impressed with the Keurig B130 from our review, we basically called their bluff on debuting a similar brewer for the home and office space when we did our review.
From our review of the Keurig B130:
"The design is also really interesting. This Keurig brewer is the smallest Keurig available, and the footprint alone makes it perfect for your camp, camping, travel trailer, or at the office on your desk. That's if Keurig ever releases this brewer to the general public and not just hotels."
We'll have more details on the Keurig Mini B30 single serve coffee brewer as we find out. If you're looking for a Keurig single serve brewer now, check out the Keurig Elite B40 Brewer, Keurig B50, Keurig Special Edition Ultra Elite B60, Keurig B70 Brewer, Breville BKC600XL Gourmet Single Cup Brewer, and other Keurig K Cup brewers.

The Keurig B70 Brewer - More than 193,000+
Keurig Brewers shipped in the 2nd quarter.
Coffee maker Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. on Thursday said net income rose 89% in the fiscal second quarter as it more than doubled the number of Keurig brewers shipped to customers. Doubled. Wow. About 193,000 Keurig brewers were shipped, more than double the 84,000 shipped in the year-ago quarter. Shipments of its K-Cup single-serve packs rose 68% to 155 million.
We also know that Green Mountain Coffee has opened new facilities to make more K Cups, so there will be no shortages of K Cups as the demand grows exponentially from all of these new customers. Revenue rose 46% to $120.9 million from $82.8 million last year which is also pretty amazing given the current economic situation in the US.
This is going to be another banner year for Single Serve Coffee, let's hope some of the other single serve coffee makers also continue to have the same success.

Timothy's Coffees of the World Inc. recently introduced White Hot Chocolate K-Cups for Keurig. This is the first white hot chocolate K-Cup developed for use in Keurig single cup brewing systems, but not the first Hot Cocoa or Hot Chocolate K Cup. Green Mountain introduced Hot Cocoa K Cups last year, and it has been one of the top selling K Cups for the Keurig K Cup brewers.
We have to say we were a bit shocked when Timothy's decided to go the white chocolate route instead of straight up hot chocolate, but the results are very solid. The hot white beverage which looks like whipped milk, is both sweet and interesting.

One question we get all the time is, "What Keurig K Cup Single Serve Coffee Brewer is right for me?" Well, one way to answer that question is on price and features. It's really hard to beat the Keurig B40 Single Serve Coffee brewer at $99 on price, and the features on the Keurig B40 won't turn you away either.
Basically as you go up in price with the Keurig line with the Keurig B60 and B70 you get auto-on, a clock, different brew sizes, and some blue LED and stainless steel accents on the Keurig brewers. If you aren't looking for any of those bells and whistles, then the Keurig B40 is perfect for you (please read our thoughts and impressions on the Keurig B40 and B60 to get even more details).
The Keurig B40 produces the same quality cup of single serve coffee that the Keurig B50, Keurig Special Edition Ultra Elite B60, Keurig B70 Brewer, Breville BKC600XL Gourmet Single Cup Brewer, and other Keurig K Cup brewers do.
Here's the list of features of the Keurig B40:
- Two brew sizes: 7.25 and 9.25-oz. cups
- Removable 48-oz. water reservoir
- Easy-clean plastic drip tray
- Automatic shut-off option
- Water level sensor.
We can't but recommend the Keurig B40 for it's value and price. You'll get into the world of single serve coffee for only $99, and you'll have the ability to use over 200+ K Cups and the Reusable My K Cup coffee filter as well.

Nick Lazaris with the Keurig B70 just two years ago.
Single Serve Coffee continues to evolve and change - Nick Lazaris has decided to move on from Keurig. He brought us all of the amazing single serve coffee machines that Keurig had currently shipped, bringing to both the office and home single serve coffee. We wish him well on his endevavours this year, and hopefully he'll continue to stay in the coffee world and perhaps make a new start making interesting products somewhere else.
From the Release:
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. (together with its subsidiary, “the Company” or “GMCR”) (NASDAQ: GMCR), announced today that Nicholas Lazaris, President of Keurig, Incorporated, a wholly-owned subsidiary of GMCR, has resigned to pursue other career opportunities and has entered into a separation and transition agreement with Keurig. Under the terms of this agreement, Mr. Lazaris will continue to serve as President of Keurig until June 16, 2008 or the date on which his successor commences employment, whichever is earlier. To support a smooth transition, Mr. Lazaris will continue to be an employee of Keurig until August 15, 2008, providing assistance as needed. Following his employment, Mr. Lazaris will serve as a consultant in Keurig’s patent infringement litigation pending against Kraft. The Company has retained an executive search firm to assist it in the recruitment of a new President of Keurig.
Mr. Lazaris and the talented Keurig leadership team have made history by leading the evolution in coffee from drip brewing to single-cup brewing. Under Mr. Lazaris’ leadership, Keurig first brought its patented, innovative single-cup brewers to offices in the late 1990s and now is the single-cup market leader in offices. In recent years, Keurig also successfully entered the home market with several new models, again establishing it as the market leader in single-cup brewers. Most recently, a model was introduced for in-room brewing at hotels, further expanding Keurig’s market potential. Keurig has sold over 1.5 million single-cup brewers life-to-date in North America. In turn, these brewers have created demand for over 2.5 billion K-Cups that have been shipped by Keurig’s licensed roasters and enjoyed by gourmet coffee, tea and hot cocoa lovers nationwide.
