Did you recently buy & register a Nespresso VertuoLine machine using your Nespresso Club account on Nespresso’s website? If so, you might be interested to learn that you could have a special offer waiting for you at your closest Nespresso Boutique retail store. During a recent visit to the Nespresso Counter within The Bay department store in Quebec City, Quebec we were reminded that we were still eligible for a welcome offer which was showing up on our account. (We refuse to call it a Boutique since it’s literally a counter inside a department store).

When Nespresso first introduced the VertuoLine brewer to North America earlier this year, we were a bit caught by surprise as up until now, Nespresso was known primarily for their premium line of espresso machines which they’ve now dubbed OriginalLine. This marked the first time Nespresso had decided to focus on conventional coffee (while still retaining the ability to produce espressos from the same machine).
An 8oz coffee from Nespresso? Given how superb some of their OriginalLine espresso capsules have been in the past, they certainly had our attention. Seeing as how coffee extraction is different than espresso extraction, Nespresso had to come up with a new way to extract brewed coffee from the capsules and they did so in a way which isn’t that common in the single serve coffee market… centrifugal force. Dubbed Centrifusion, the brewer has a laser which reads a barcode ring around the inner lip of the capsule and this code determines everything from water amounts to spin rate in order to deliver optimized results for each capsule.

The Limited Edition Cauca Nespresso capsules are going to make your morning a bit brighter. This coffee produced is both juicy and fruity, and the Cauca Grand Cru is grown in the green, rolling mountainous region of Cauca in Colombia, warmed by the equatorial sunshine. These Arabica beans have been diligently processed to highlight the genuine fruity-winey aromas and juicy taste, and make for an exhilarating coffee experience.
The Limited Edition Cauca capsules will work in all regular Nespresso machines. These capsules are not available for the Nespresso Vertuoline of Nespresso makers.

Bicafe by Espressione Paixao Capsule are compatible for use in Nespresso machines. These capsules have been reviewed by one of our Single Serve Coffee Forums members here and the decaf version here. So far impressions have been good for these capsules, and it's nice to see some alternatives to only being able to order direct from Nespresso. These capsules are made in Portugal.

We really love single serve coffee so, when we found out Nespresso was jumping into the dual coffee and espresso wagon we we’re beyond excited. Sure we love a cup of espresso, but we often like a shot of espresso in our single serve cup of coffee. The Nespresso VertuoLine Single Serve Coffee and Espresso Maker is the first Nespresso machine that makes a great cup of coffee or espresso. Each capsule is perfectly measured so that you get a uniformed brew each and every time, and when you put an espresso capsule in the Vertuo it will make espresso. If you use a larger coffee capsule it will make a larger cup of coffee.

Nespresso has two new limited edition coffees this year instead of just one. Both of the limited edition 2014 Nespresso coffees are from different growing regions or 'terroirs' in Colombia. Cauca (intensity 6) and Santander (intensity 7) are available now for ordering and will work in all Nespresso espresso machines.
- Cauca is a coffee with fruity-winey and ripe fruit notes, complex and aromatic, juicy with fine acidity.
- Santander is a coffee with hints of toasted bread and caramel notes, balanced and round.
We're thinking Santander is more in tune with our coffee palette, but for those of you who like a rich intense juicy cup of coffee than Cauca is for you.

Nestle and Nespresso are stepping up in size from espresso to single serve coffee with the VertuoLine Single Serve Coffee Maker. Trying to win more customers in the US is Nespresso's aim, and the $299 machine will produce eight types of 8-ounce servings and four espresso blends. The VertuoLine will be sold in the U.S. and Canada at Nespresso boutiques, online and at retailers including Macy's Inc, Bloomingdale's and Williams-Sonoma Inc.
The new machine, which uses a different capsule, and won't be compatible with older Nespresso machines. We're not sure if the machine will be compatible with the existing set of Nespresso capsules.
Nespresso represents about 25 percent of Nestle's coffee sales and 4 percent of its 92.4 billion francs in total revenue. So why do this right now? Besides the single serve coffee market growing in size year over year, Nespresso has sought to expand Nespresso outside Europe, where it faces an ever-increasing number of copycat capsules from rivals like Mondelez International Inc. This is much the same competition that Green Mountain faces with the after market and unlicensed K-Cups.
Will you be getting a Vertuo Nespresso brewer? We're pretty interested given how much we like their espresso. No exact date on the debut, but we expect it to go head to head with Keurig 2.0 this Fall.
