Nespresso is really pushing the Nespresso U machine in shopping malls around the Boston area. We spotted this floor to ceiling ad just a few days ago and had to share. We also find it really interesting Nespresso and Nintendo both have U machines out this holiday season - the Nespresso U and the Wii U. Maybe the two machines together make a perfect modern life of coffee and video games.

As Nespresso Club members are aware, each year around mid-November marks the release of 3 flavored espresso varieties known as the Nespresso Variations collection. These flavors are available for a limited time only and once Nespresso stops selling them, that's it... they're gone until further notice, sometimes never to be seen again.
This year, Nespresso decided that instead of creating 3 distinctly different flavors, they’d take a new approach and release 3 flavors which are all within the same flavor family. As a result, this year sees the release of 3 flavors which are based off of nuts… Hazelnut, Macadamia Nut and Coconut. The coffee base for each flavor is, as usual, their Livanto Grand Cru espresso which ranks in at a strength of 6 on their intensity scale.
It’s no secret that we are BIG fans of coconut coffee here at Single Serve Coffee and GMCR’s Seasonal Island Coconut K-Cups are our all-time #1 FAVORITE K-Cup on the market, so most staff were running around, hugging each other, yelling OMG! OMG! OMG! for about 5 solid minutes the moment we noticed the coconut flavor in the press release.

It's that time of year again when Nespresso launches one of it's limited edition Grand Crus. This year they have launched Crealto and it's ready to order. What made Nespresso create the "Crealto"? Nespresso Green Coffee Specialist Alexis Rodriquez was inspired by Michelin-starred chef Mauro Colagreco's love of long-roasting techniques at low temperatures. Crealto reveals roasted notes that are surprisingly round and a lingering finish, which is achieved by a long roasting method by Nespresso.

The new Nespresso U model espresso machine recently arrived at Williams Sonoma. It's been available in Australia & the United Kingdom since June. Williams Sonoma sells the U machine for $199 & $249 with the aerochino plus. We've called our local Williams Sonoma at the Burlington, MA store (and so did our tipster Mark) yesterday, and confirmed its in stock, in all 4 colors.
The U model is exclusively available at Williams Sonoma for now. It will also be available at the Nespresso US website to purchase on August 31st.

It's been quiet on the Nespresso crazy design front, but this machine designed by Tali Shilo is exactly what they need to step it up. It's just a concept for now until Nespresso themselves take notice of this amazing design. We think it also has a hint of Flavia Creation station in the design. Perhaps Flavia and Nespresso should work together.

Over in Espresso Capsules and Capsule Reviews in the Single Serve Coffee Forums there's word a Swiss inventor has come up with refillable stainless steel Nespresso capsules. There's already refillable capsules made from plastic on the market, but you have to love the need to make a stainless steel one. The review site is in french but you can read the translation here.
It will be interesting to see if any of these make it to US shores.

It’s been a while since we’ve done a Nespresso capsule review here at Single Serve Coffee, but with this latest Limited Edition dubbed Naora (a combination of the English word "now" with the Spanish equivalent of the same word "ahora"), we just couldn’t pass it up. This Grand Cru is truly unique in that it marks the first time Nespresso have deviated from the norm and applied techniques from an entirely different industry during the harvesting process. Instead of using usual methods, they worked in close collaboration with Colombian coffee growers and employed harvesting techniques usually found in vineyards during wine production.

Over in Coffee Talk at the Single Serve Coffee Forums there's word that Nespresso is airing a commercial where they tout clothing is optional. One often wonders why people get all dressed to go to a cafe, when they can simply have amazing single serve coffee and espresso in the comfort of their home. We routinely have our single serve coffee right out of the shower, and wander around in a robe, but wandering around in a towel is an interesting idea especially if you look this good drinking coffee.

The Economic Times has an interesting take on Starbucks' Verismo single serve coffee maker launching this fall - it's going to kill Nespresso's momentum here in the US and maybe even abroad. Since Verismo is coming out this Fall - it's hard to say based on a drink to drink comparison, but the one thing Starbucks has over Nespresso is distribution.
