What's the Best Nespresso Capsule? Single Serve Espresso Knows

NespressoCapsules-thumb-250x219.jpg

We get this question all the time as well here at Single Serve Coffee, but leave it to Scott over at Single Serve Espresso to give an amazing answer. We too prefer the richer Ristrettos, but also like the light Cosi from time to time. From Scott:

I get this question all the time, which capsule is best, and what should I be drinking? I think the best thing that Nespresso does is to include the full assortment with each machine so you get to try them and see what types of flavors are out there and which capsules you'll end up loving with your machine. The only thing better would be to include two of each! (I turned my sample holder into my capsule holder inside the cabinet door)

Second Nespresso Design Contest Winners - CoffeeLuxury Celebrated

Nespresso-Design-Contest-2008---WINNER---Untitled.jpg

"Untitled" the winner of the Second Nespresso Design Competition looks more like
a nightlight than an espresso machine.

Nespresso always have the most amazing designs for their single serve coffee machines. Recently they held an awards ceremony for their second design contest in Milan. In total 4 winners were announced, including:

  • First place was awarded to Brice Genre and Hanika Perez of the Université Toulouse Le Mirail in France for their creative design, "Untitled," which is an incredibly original coffee maker resembling a thermosensitive work of art that gradually changes appearance thanks to the heat of the water. Renowned designer Giulio Cappellini from Italy presented the €12,000 cash prize to the two students
  • The second-place award went to Andreas Diefenbach from Staatliche Akademie Der Bildenden Künste in Germany. His design was entitled, "Pearl," a round coffee-maker with a luxurious design.
  • Millete Balazs and Telekes Tamas from MOME - Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Hungary, was the third-place winner with their in-flight coffee machine, "Enjoy It While Flying."
  • The Special mention was awarded to Francois Saudubray from EID in France for his "SOPRANO" design. An ingenious system of covers, each with a colour that is association with a particular Nespresso Grand Cru, makes it possible to preserve the aroma of coffee while recognizing one's cup.

Check out the interactive feature at Nespresso Design Contest Winners, and the full set of winner pictures after the jump.

Nespresso Limited Edition 2008 Goroka

goroka.jpg

Nespresso has just announced their limited edition coffee for 2008 - Goroka. Goroka is described as precious, sophisticated, chiseled, and unique. The coffee is from East Papua New Guinea, and made from Arabica beans grown in a very humid and warm tropical rainforest. Goroka gets its name from the Mountain town where all coffee harvests are sent to be hulled before being sent all over the world.

We recommend visiting the Goroka site, as Nespresso always pulls out all the stops in presenting their limited edition coffees. We'll have to see if we can get some Goroka capsules for our Nespresso before they sell out.

The Nespresso Goroka Limited Edition 2008 coffee capsules will work in your Nespresso D90, Nespresso Le Cube, Nespresso Romeo, Nespresso Lattissima, Nespresso C100T, and other Nespresso single serve coffee and espresso makers.

Eric Favre - Inventor of Nespresso

2248736302_30dcbda1a2.jpg

Eric Favre is the creator of Nespresso. Eric Favre patented the Nespresso process in 1978, the first step of the amazing story of an inventor turning his idea into one of the world's most successful single serve espresso and coffee products. We found some very interesting pictures and videos from the Lift Conference, and think if you can handle a little french - the video is very interesting. Even if you can't speak french, the pictures and feel of what Eric is communicating is there.

Lessons from Nestlé’s Coffee Break - Article on Single Serve Coffee

Image from the Financial Times

We think you'll enjoy this interesting article on Nespresso at the Financial Times. We also think you'd like to know we got quoted in the article about the cost of single serve coffee. Not too shabby for the New Year being only 4 days old.

The trick is to make such goods alluring and to set a price that is steep but affordable. UK newspaper executives sometimes moan that consumers refuse to pay 50p for a newspaper when they spend £2 on a coffee at Starbucks, but a newspaper is not the same thing as a Starbucks espresso. A shot of Nespresso – essentially – is the same.

“People can have their own coffee shop at home. They save because, even though it is more expensive than drip coffee, it is still a third of the price of Starbucks,” says Jay Brewer, founder of singleservecoffee.com, a website devoted entirely to, well, you get the idea.

Nespresso Variations 2007 - Chocolate Orange, Almond, and Cardamom

Nespresso has introduced three new flavors for their 2007 variations. Last year they introduced Absolute Vanilla, Spicy Apple, and Aniseed (the Aniseed being our favorite), but this year they've gone a bit more mainstream. The flavors are Chocolate Orange, Almond, and Cardamom. We're especially excited for the Cardamom flavor - sure to be a bit spicy and exciting.

The Nespresso Variations 2007 coffee capsules will work in your Nespresso D90, Nespresso Le Cube, Nespresso Romeo, Nespresso Lattissima, Nespresso C100T, and other Nespresso single serve coffee and espresso makers.

Nespresso C100T Essenza Single Serve Espresso and Coffee Machine

The Nespresso C100T Essenza is still one of our most used and favorite single serve espresso and coffee machines here at Single Serve Coffee. It's one of the most affordable Nespresso machines as well at just over $200, and has a very tiny footprint on your countertop. We also just really like the way the Nespresso C100T Essenza looks - a nice flowing top along with a perfect set of colors in a matte finish. If you're wondering what the big change is from the Nespresso C90 to the Nespresso C100T Essenza, it's the ability to program an espresso and lungo sized coffee on the two coffee buttons that appear on the front of the machine.

Overall features are:

  • High-pressure pump (19 bars)
  • Thermoblock heating element
  • Programmable and automatic control of the amount of coffee in the cup
  • Functional handle allows for easy coffee preparation
  • Automatic ejection of used capsules on lifting the handle
  • Collection container for used capsules
  • Removable water tank (1L capacity)
