Dualit Piccolina Single Serve Coffee and Espresso Maker

detail_1212.jpg

A different design than the Dualit Rapido, the Dualit Piccolina coffee capsule machine from Dualit is packed full of user friendly features. This machine is only available in Europe (another Caffitaly variant), and is available Online & at John Lewis stores in the UK. It's nice to see how the worldwide counterparts differ in color and tone from the US variants that CBTL is featuring. We think the simple black is nice, but we do miss the bright blue and red CBTL offers here in the US.

  • A unique twin pressure system provides (15 bar) for making espressos or low pressure (3.5 bar) for longer drinks to suit your coffee preference
  • No mess - with sealed capsules which drop into an integral drawer when used
  • Eco-friendly, with auto shut-off and recyclable capsules
  • Quick to heat up, with coffee dispensed in under two minutes
  • Easy to use, with drop in capsules, pre-set functions, removable 1.2L water tank, and auto-descale programme
  • Adjustable spout height and temperature
  • For frothed or heated milk, partner with the versatile Latteccino to create all you milk based coffee drinks.

We've been getting a lot of reader write ins about the Dualit Rapido (a Caffitaly machine) and the same machine used for CBTL here in the US. K-Fee Pod Drinks Machine - Budget Espresso

SS12212-5032TPS1258489.jpg

More of a Nespresso knock off than a K-Cup killer, the K-Fee Pod Drinks machine uses Tesco pod/capsules to make a variety of roast and ground coffee blends, espresso, cappuccino, latte macchiato, mocha, teas and hot chocolate. This machine is also currently only available in Europe and abroad with a variety of names.

The machine features a 19 bar high pressure pump, and heats up in 20 seconds. There is automatic pod collection, an integrated cleaning function, plus a programmable filling quantity to suit your strength preference. The capacity of this coffee machine’s water tank is 1 litre. Tesco pods are available in over 300 selected stores, and can also be bought on Tesco Direct starting December, 1 2011.

Over in the SSC forums we also found a review of the machine in Australia. It looks more like a Nespresso copy, than a K-Cup machine. We would imagine they're using the K-name to be more recognizable here in the US. In Australia it's called the Expressi.

Nespresso Rival Removes Nexpod Capsules from Shelves

nexpod1.jpg

Denner who markets Nexpod in Switzerland has been told to remove the Nexpod - a fill your own coffee capsule from store shelves. Following the clarification of a court ruling, Denner is talking with lawyers about the possibility of marketing the product again. Denner, which is owned by the cooperative Migros, had continued to sell the capsules after the June ruling as it was unclear—before the latest clarification—whether or not the ruling had reintroduced the ban.

"Denner will of course respect the existing legal prohibition again and take the capsules off the shelves for the time being," said Denner spokeswoman Nicole Schoewel.

This is interesting stuff, as most of the patent wars in the single serve coffee world have been well - successful for the patent holder, but most of the aftermarket make your own coffee capsule stuff has been left untouched. Perhaps the design of this product is too close to the patent? We'll keep up with this story to see if Nexpod goes back on sale in Switzerland.

Electrolux Enters Single-Serve Coffee Market With Lavazza in Sweden and Finland

electrolux_4581_logo.jpg

Swedish Electrolux AB (ELUX-B.SK) is to enter the lucrative single-serve coffee industry with Luigi Lavazza SpA by launching a new line of single-serve coffee makers for the domestic market. The household appliance maker's coffee machines will be launched as part of a joint venture with the privately-owned Italian coffee company. Lavazza already sells single serve coffee products under the A Modo Mio brand and the partnership will face tough competition from European beverage giant Nestle SA (NSRGY) and its market-leading Nespresso brand.

The coffee machines will be launched this summer in Sweden and Finland, and will then be released in several other European countries

Senseo Quadrante Coffee Pod Brewer Pictures and Details

SDC10564.jpg

We've recently received the Senseo Quadrante from Europe from Senseo's PR agency, and thought an unboxing was in order. Given the power convertor issues we've had trying to get the machine to run on a US circuit, we're not sure if we'll fully be able to review the Senseo Quadrante in the short term. Regardless, the machine in person is really stunning. The design lines are clean, and the refresh to a cube form welcome.

SDC10566.jpg
The double pod holder is loose on top.

The machine features the same one cup and double cup buttons, along with a redesigned water reservoir that is much easier to grip and hold. The big change is the coffee pod drawer area - the entire top pops open for you to put your single or set of coffee pods into.

Bosch Designed Tassimo Pictures Surface at Flickr

The Bosch designed Tassimo in the wilds of a British kitchen.
My god...it's full of espresso drinks...

Most days we wish we lived in Europe just to sample the single serve coffee makers like the Bosch Tassimo that debut there instead of launching in the US first. If we were British, we'd take lots of cool pictures of our new Bosch Tassimo, and then post them on Flicker all while watching reruns of Doctor Who.

Check out the full set of pictures here, and US launch details can be found here.

Thanks to SH for pointing this out and for Flickr user HappyCheeseCake for letting us use the picture.

Second Nespresso Design Contest Winners - CoffeeLuxury Celebrated

Nespresso-Design-Contest-2008---WINNER---Untitled.jpg

"Untitled" the winner of the Second Nespresso Design Competition looks more like
a nightlight than an espresso machine.

Nespresso always have the most amazing designs for their single serve coffee machines. Recently they held an awards ceremony for their second design contest in Milan. In total 4 winners were announced, including:

  • First place was awarded to Brice Genre and Hanika Perez of the Université Toulouse Le Mirail in France for their creative design, ”Untitled," which is an incredibly original coffee maker resembling a thermosensitive work of art that gradually changes appearance thanks to the heat of the water. Renowned designer Giulio Cappellini from Italy presented the €12,000 cash prize to the two students
  • The second-place award went to Andreas Diefenbach from Staatliche Akademie Der Bildenden Künste in Germany. His design was entitled, "Pearl,” a round coffee-maker with a luxurious design.
  • Millete Balazs and Telekes Tamas from MOME - Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Hungary, was the third-place winner with their in-flight coffee machine, "Enjoy It While Flying."
  • The Special mention was awarded to Francois Saudubray from EID in France for his "SOPRANO" design. An ingenious system of covers, each with a colour that is association with a particular Nespresso Grand Cru, makes it possible to preserve the aroma of coffee while recognizing one's cup.

Check out the interactive feature at Nespresso Design Contest Winners, and the full set of winner pictures after the jump.

Typical Dutch Stuff - Get European Coffee Pods

test6.jpg

We've always been a big fan of Typical Dutch Stuff. They carry almost any coffee pod you can't get in the US for the Senseo, and other single serve coffee pod machines. All the pods they offer have the same diameter (62mm). This means you can safely use any of these coffee pods in your Senseo, Bunn My Cafe, Melitta One:One, simplehuman, Krups 1010 , GPOD, Home Cafe, Cuisinart SS-1 Cup-O-Matic, Melitta MES5B Javapod, and other single serve coffee pod makers.

They also add flavors on a regular basis, so check back often.

More Bosch Tassimo Videos from France

tassimodirectorfrance.jpg

A few more new videos (all in French, of course) of the new Bosch Tassimo machine. These videos showcase some of the new buttons and lights of the Bosch Tassimo.

From SH:

The first video is a promotional clip from the Bosch Project Director where he describes how the machine is sleeker, how it'll be available in 4 colors which he describes in English (still can't figure out why he doesn't just say "rouge" "noir" and "argenté" instead of black, red & silver), he goes over some of the new features such as the lights for water refil & descaling. He also notes how the new machine will be available on France retail shelves in April 2008. He noted the goal of the project was to introduce a new Tassimo which was much more modernized & design-oriented to fit into contemporary settings/decor. I'm guessing that's why they decided to get rid of the see-through window on the top of the T-Disc chamber... because they thought it wasn't "sleek enough" or perhaps detracted from the machine's overall design?? You also get a good view of what size mugs/cups can fit on the cup stand.

The second video is one of the French bloggers testing an espresso in the machine at the brunch event last month in Paris.

More Tassimo from Bosch Sightings - Pictures and Video

SH from Canada is at it again with even more interesting thoughts on the new Tassimo designed and created by Bosch. He's noticed a Flickr gallery of photos taken by one of the bloggers at the Tassimo Bosch brunch event.

The blogger's name is Cyril Attias and he has a ton of pictures:

2209687093_841e5427e1.jpg

One picture has piqued his curiosity....

2209693269_3331a73832.jpg

From SH: Notice anything missing? No water run-off spout! Unless the spout has been moved further below so that it's covered by the cup stand, I'll take a wild guess that maybe this new Tassimo no longer leaks water. Remember, this is all just pure speculation on my behalf. Also interesting, water reservoir is the width of the machine (explains how they made it 2L) and it appears there's holes integrated into the lid so that you can fill water while the lid is still on.
