Review: Kienna Sun Cafe Coffee Pod Brewer

Review Single Serve Coffeekienna_sun_cafe.jpg

The Sun Cafe single cup pod brewer makes coffee one cup at a time, and its patented pod drawer works with a wide variety of pods, allowing you to choose your favorite coffee or tea. Innovative extraction system brings out the full range of the coffee or tea for a perfectly balanced cup, and the brewer comes with a variety pack of Kienna Coffee pods.

We've said before in other articles on the Sun Cafe coffee pod brewer that the look and design is the same as the Simplehuman coffee pod brewer - well they do look the same, the coffee extraction and updates make this a totally new brewer that makes an excellent cup of coffee.

It's very shiny and very stainless all at the same time.
We love the blue light on the oz indicator.

Top 10 Best Selling Single Serve Coffee Makers - July 2009

singleservecoffeemakers.jpg

It's July and Summer is finally upon us, and so is our Top 10 Best Selling Single Serve Coffee Makers list. Keurig is now dominating all the top slots, and you'll notice the Senseo single serve coffee pod brewer is now missing from the list. Why? There are no Senseos available at retail that we can find because of their product recall. This has also made the very old brewer - Home Cafe come back into the top 10.

Unboxing the Sun Cafe Coffee Pod Brewer

kienna_sun_cafe.jpg
We've been spending the week with the Sun Cafe Coffee Pod brewer and thought we'd share our initial though ts and unboxing. The Sun Cafe single cup pod brewer uses a 10-12 gram pod, and has the same stylish design original Simplehuman coffee pod brewer. There are several improvement including better labeling of the coffee pod drawer (it says 61 mm 10-12 gram pod on it), which eliminates someone trying to stuff two 7 gram coffee pods in the pod drawer and jamming the brewer. It also is made of a higher quality plastic, thus the brewer feeling like it's of higher quality. We like the Kienna coffee pods we've tried so far, and will get you a full review soon.

Sun Cafe Coffee Pod Brewer Arrives for Review

IMG_8310.JPG

We have the Sun Cafe coffee pod brewer in house, and are very excited to review it. So far it looks very similiar to a the Simplehuman coffee pod brewer, but we'll run it through our review tests and see what we find. One thing we expect as a shortcoming is the ability to use two Senseo 7 gram coffee pods at a time. Not much of a limitation, but we thought a lot of people back in the days of the Simplehuman pod brewer were disappointed in the lack of this functionality. Since then however, the availability of 8-12 gram one cup coffee pods has grown tremendously.

The Sun Cafe single cup pod brewer makes coffee one cup at a time. Patented pod drawer works with a wide variety of pods, allowing you to choose your favorite coffee or tea. Innovative extraction system brings out the full range of the coffee or tea for a perfectly balanced cup. Brewer comes with a variety pack of Kienna Coffee pods.

Keurig Mini B30 Now Priced at $89.99

08-keurig-b30-red-alt1.jpg

The Keurig Mini B30 has increased in price from $79.95 to $89.95. We're not sure why Keurig has raised the price on the Keurig Mini B30, but it may be due to the popularity and ever increasing prices in manufacturing we've been seeing here at Single Serve Coffee, and our sister site Single Serve Espresso. We still think the Keurig Mini B30 is the perfect little Keurig for your home or office, but at only $10 more - it's hard to pass up on the Keurig B40 single serve brewer as an option now.

Top 10 Best Selling Single Serve Coffee Makers - June 2009

singleservecoffeemakers.jpg

Here we are in June 2009 in probably one of the worst recessions in US history, but people are still drinking tons of single serve and one cup coffee. They're also buying lots of single serve coffee machines too. Keurig is now dominating all but the top slot in the top 5 single serve coffee makers, and the Bosch Tassimo is staying put in the 6th slot.

Sun Cafe Coffee Pod Brewer

kiennasuncafecoffeepodbrewer.jpg

There's a new coffee pod brewer coming to Canada from Kienna - the SunCafe Coffee Pod Brewer. Kienna - the parent company makes a ton of other coffee products, so they're getting in to the serve serve coffee pod business. We don't have details on pricing as of yet but we have some details on the brewer.

The SunCafe single serve coffee pod brewer makes coffee in less than a minute, and uses a patented extraction system.

The extraction process ensures :

  1. water is infused over the Pod evenly at the ideal temperature
  2. unique flow channels in the pod holders prevents water from flowing around or through the pod too quickly
  3. paused water flow system optimizes contact between the coffee and water. With about 35 psi vibration pump pressure, the brewing system captures the complexity of the beans in every cup

We'll have a full review once we receive the brewer.

Review: Nespresso CitiZ Single Serve Coffee and Espresso Maker

Review from Single Serve Coffee.com - Coffee Pod Reviewsnespresso-citiz-machine.jpg

Nespresso was kind of enough to send us the new CitiZ brewer ahead of launch to review. The new Nespresso CitiZ Automatic Espresso Maker range takes its inspiration from the streets - literally - of major cities from around the globe. The colors of well-known focal points and objects, the design and shapes of buildings and landmarks, and the urban vibe and attitude of cities led Nespresso designers to create a new generation of Nespresso machines. The design is not only an improvement in looks but in the footprint of the machine as well. Compared to the Nespresso C100T Essenza - the Nespresso CitiZ takes up much less space in width, and has some new features that make it a standout.

This Nespresso CitiZ machines come in the following designs and feature sets:

  • Nespresso CitiZ - a single-head automatic espresso machine
  • Nespresso CitiZ & Milk - a single-head automatic espresso machine with a built-in fresh milk frother for cappuccinos and lattes
  • Nespresso CitiZ & Co. (not available in North America) - the first-ever double-head machine designed for at-home use

IMG_7843.jpg
The spent capsule storage is improved and see through.

We tested the Nespresso CitiZ single-head automatic single serve coffee and espresso machine for this review in a stunning red case.

Top 10 Best Selling Single Serve Coffee Makers - March 2009

singleservecoffeemakers.jpg

This is the first time we've done our Top 10 Best Selling Single Serve Coffee makers in 2009, and the list is full of surprises. The Aeropress from Aerobie is now #1 with 5 of the top ten list getting consumed with Keurig designed single serve coffee makers. The Bosch Tassimo Suprema Hot Beverage System continues to shine on the top 10 list, but the older Braun models are no longer available. It's interesting how the Hamilton Beach Brew station continues to make the list, and Nespresso rounds out the top 10 with their affordable Essenza model.
